Quick & Easy Knife Sharpening 2

Here is an updated version of my "Quick & Easy Knife Sharpening" video I did several years ago. I still use the same method but, this should add some of the questions that popped up after the first time around and provides a bit of extra information. I hope this helps.
Thanks again,

    You're a legend man, been learning a lot from you just by watching forged in fire, you're always super informative and anybody like me who has the interest to start smithing appreciates every bit of knowledge we can get, I'm just struggling to find a forge to learn at

    Nice PSU hoodie! I'm from State College and want more than anything to become a master bladesmith. I have metalworking experience, but nothing like forging a blade. I admire your work sir.

    Made first Knife other day. It's Great Fun. Not a knife guy. I'm a stone Mason. But for whatever reason This seems to appeal to the same sense of crafting. Thanks for this video as I recently was trying to sharpen with belt and was finding myself chasing the edge.

    Nice to see this and having watched the six years older video five minutes ago and you are using the same exact belt. No need to change a method that works.

    Nice follow up video. I noticed the same issue at the end on some of my thinner blades. I had to hand strop to get the wire edge gone, it was just moving from one side to the other when i used the leather belt. Thanks.

    Just watching season 5 episode 20, and j is beating the crap out of some friction folders with his famous charred baseball bat. With one of the knives, he knew he was going to hurt himself if he hit it again (because he already broke the knife with the previous swing) but he smacked it anyway. F*cking badass. Love it!!

    J. Neilson I have a request for a new forged in fire episode if it's possible. A all champion champion tournament from every episode head to head contest where at the end the make a weapon that hasn't been done yet. The broad head schemitar sword.

    I get my white buffing compound from Pop's Knife Supply down in GA. The green compound will work as well but, it is more aggressive than the white. It all depends on the type of edge you want. J.

    Hello Mr. Neilson. I have recently started setting up my home forge. I read about forges emitting UV light and sodium flares, which can be harmful to the eyes; however, on further research, I found that sodium flares are really only emitted during glass-work (I hope I am correct?). Therefore, I bought UV blocking safety glasses. Later, though, I found that forges also emit infrared light. Do I need glasses that block this as well? Does anything really need to be blocked? What do you use?

    Do you use the rough side or smooth side of the leather belt?

  • @augustussutton2379

    @augustussutton2379

    7 жыл бұрын

    i use a leather on board strop and it uses the rough side it is intended for carpentry tools and kitchen knives it will mirror polish an edge in 2 to 3 passes a side, and really fine edges like filleting knives you can almost split atoms with it.
