You can also use a bottle with water and glycerin instead of hair conditioner. It softens the paper and your hands! The paper has to completely dry before adding the ink so the paper does not tear. Follow-up with mod podge! This is a great tutorial and the book is absolutely stunning!

Thank you for this tutorial, a neighbor asked me to make some journals using a notebook her dad kept when he was in the Korean conflict, this type cover is exactly what I want to use, thank you for sharing and doing all the experimenting and coming up with a great easy way to achieve this look. 😊

I use brown craft paper, crumple and smooth it a few times, rub with distressed ink and then rub with a white candle. Leaves a soft waxy texture. 🎉

I can't wait for the rest of this journal. Already have my journal covered with a thrift store shirt, but I love the leather look. Will have to use it somewhere in my gentleman's journal.

I’ve also made the beautiful faux leather from Chasing Paper. I’ve made different colors and experimented with making blue/green & gold faux leather. I make sure my papers are completely dry before I add the distress inks. I also use a brush for distress inks, and also makeup sponges to apply the inks to the softened dried brown paper bags. I don’t like a high gloss finish so I will mix half gloss Mod Podge and half matte or 1/2 gloss and 1/2 antique Mod Podge finish. I also love using PPA as a sealer. So far I’ve made 5 beautiful faux leather junk journals. I kept the first one and gave the other 4 as gifts to new friends. There are so many techniques for creating faux leather. I love your leather digital papers. I’ve purchased so many of your digital kits, I especially love the Alice in Wonderland and the Blue & Ivory Kit, Winnie-the-Pooh, the camera book, and many more!! I had to start filling the kits by name and I love the freebies!!! 😁

Thank you for doing all the hard work (experimenting)for us. Beautiful results. I’m anxious too see the final results.

You can also use the spray bottle technique with adding your conditioner into the water, shaking it, and using that to soften the fibers in the brown paper, instead of spreading the conditioner on. That’s how I made my first leather.

i've also done this, but I added the conditioner, not much, into the water in the spray bottle. i found it got more evenly distributed. thanks for the tutorial

How do you keep your glue from squeezing out the end when you turn it upside down in a coffee cup. If I leave it straight up it volcanoes. Will it do the same upside down in a coffee cup?
