Hi Rusti, looking forward to seeing you make these, great work so far. Not wanting to repeat what others have said but a disinfect of the tank, pump and pipework is necessary once you have a machine in that state with bacteria. What I will also give you from my experience is, you never get a machine back to new condition in terms of coolant life once they have reached this state, even with disinfectant and biocides, it will be a constant fight. My advice would be to make a new tank out of a 25 litre oil container and just re-route the return pipe into it. Use new pipework, and a low voltage pump too. Hope this helps. Cheers, Jon.

For infrequently used machines I find water based collants to be real problem (both getting nasty and the evaporated water condensing and causing rust). I would suggest using straight cutting oil, it doesn't cool as well but it is much better than nothing and can sit for years without issue.

I think I'm going to clean the whole thing and use cutting oil.
There are additives for your water based coolant. There are also tablets. They will help prevent the bacteria from growing. Some coolants say that they have anti bacterial agents in them.

Hi Michel, really pleased that your father had a great birthday, it was great to read the wishes from so many people from all over the globe. Nice bit of steel and really good finish from mill and shaper. I love these slow motion clips👏👏 Some good tips already for tackling the foul odour on the mill coolant. I was wondering if a carbon filter breather might help. Have a great weekend!!

For infrequently used machines I find water based collants to be real problem (both getting nasty and the evaporated water condensing and causing rust). I would suggest using straight cutting oil, it doesn't cool as well but it is much better than nothing and can sit for years without issue.

I made a little tool and cutter grinder for end mills - I found that cheap tungsten tipped wood blades used slowly in the mill as slitting saws, saved a lot of swarf on the floor. It also provided a lot of little useful blocks of metal. This is not my idea, a useful idea thrown up by google. I thought I might pass this little pearl of info on. Good onya

Yep, that could work.
After you clean out your coolant tank I would recommend disinfectant over night then rinse it out, mix coolant as instructions then use a refractometer this will show the mix is correct, very important, hope this helps, I enjoy all your videos thank you, from Coventry in the UK 🇬🇧👍.

Michel, we had a machine at work that always made bacteria in the coolant. Others were fine. Maybe the mill needs a very thorough clean out. Probably it needs some bleach or disinfectant and then left to dry out completely. I know that stink well! Regards, Mark

Yes I think that is the problem too, as your lathe is OK with the same mix. A strong bleach mix for several days would be my suggestion.

good vid ,, just to let you know how i get around the coolant problem. first of all i am no expert and know nothing about anything. i was told by all sorts of people not to do this but have used it for years with no trouble or changes, i use 1 litre bottle of rust inhibitor( not coolant) for radiators, 100% concentrate makes about 20 litres. it has a lubricant,,, it cools,,,, and rust preventative. after each session i clean and oil the machine bed , table or whatever and have had no trouble at all. just a thought for you cheers

Hi Michel ☺ glad your father had a good birthday, as for the coolant I seem to remember that special antibacterial fluid is available to cure that problem, you mite want to look that up. The tool holder project is coming along nicely, and I look forward to the next video, Best wishes for the Xmas season to you and your's, Stuart UK.

G'day Rusty very nice tools etc that you received in the mail. You can never have to many tools: arbours: Tool steel etc, they will always come in handy, as you have shown many times. Just wondering if you could have cut the steel in a flat position with your saw. Another great video with your comentary

I’ve been enjoying your videos. Thanks ! Shapers have always interested me and your slow motion videos were really cool. Do you have videos specifically about your shaper? Also, I have a FP1 and have not used coolant in it because of the problems of it going rancid. I’ve heard that you can put an aquarium bubbler in the tank and it will stop it from going rancid. Looking forward to your next video.

As always, an entertaining video. Fun to see some milling! Time 16:40. There are cutters for mills that can do that job.... But why as You have the shaper...? How does the clapping work during the first cuts? Ahh, You told it later. Time 17:15. Bumping the cutting tool. Boozo was there. 360 greetings. That's great. Bless Your father.

Hi Rustinox was wandering if you could explain what angles on cutters for shaper works best for aluminium i see that you cut steel most of the times just curious if im grinding my hss tools wrong 🤔
@Rustinox

I don't work much with aluminium. All I know is that the cutting angles must be more agressive than for steel. Time to experiment :)
Hi Michel. Have you tried adding disinfectant to the coolant? In many of the workshops I worked in would do this to stop the coolant going off. 500 ml to 2 liters should do the trick. Cheers from Australia! Paul

It might be worth using an oil in the mill and not a water soluble coolant.

I was also thinkinf of that.
my first thought looking at the title and thumb was "quick change tool holder for a shaper!?" i see this is not that, but maybe it should be your next idea?
@Rustinox

Lol. I do most of the shaper work with only one tool. So, a quick change one will not be very useful. But still, it's an idea.
Have you tried adding a fish tank air pump and stone to your coolant tank? I don't use coolant but have heard that it helps.

That parting tool would have cut the excess off that plate and you would still have a useful offcut left instead of a mountain of chips
