    Everyone has had their rough moment, but yeah if you don't play it obviously doesn't make for the best game experience. It'd be different if it was king making, but someone just vomited their board and no-one else had anything going on, he definitely could have made it a game in retrospect. Not enough love for how awesome that Game 2 endgame scenario was. Leaving the missed plays aside, that was the epitome of "powerful magic" that many enjoy about Commander. Watching a scenario of "my entire deck versus your entire deck" was really enjoyable. Some other notes... - Love Seth experimenting with "fewer staples" builds - Poor Phil had been doing well not drawing Sol Ring as much earlier this season, but is falling back into old habits - Good reminder of what goldfishing a good Elfball start is like. That deck spirals like no other. Reminder that Commander Clash is not about optimal plays. It's about having a play group you enjoy playing styles of Magic you enjoy, whatever that means. Continue to love the variety of interesting decks that is rare to find in quite this manner elsewhere.

  • @towelociraptor

    @towelociraptor

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@HypnoticGG That's your opinion, and imo your preference is the "salty play" not Phil's. Poor sportsmanship is resetting the board when you know you're gonna lose just for the sake of extending the game, rather than letting someone finish it and move to a more fun and interactive game 2. Board wiping would only extend the game while not putting him in any position to win, and rather than make the next 25 minutes extremely boring and painful for everyone he chose to let the game end. Could he have gotten some favor with Seth and Richard by playing Blasphemous Act? Sure, but he had no mana, no card draw engine, and only high cost cards in hand, so best case scenario is he maybe assembles a competitive board state after like 5-6 turns of "draw go" which is far more miserable.

    If Phil isn't going to play the boardwipe, why not just concede then? There isn't an answer out there that would have dealt with Tomer's board and left Phil's two creatures. So either no one answers anything and Tomer runs away with it, or someone else draws an answer (or two answers after Phil gave Tomer the extra turn to draw more protection) and Phil still won't do anything. I didn't like the strategy, and it made for a bad viewing experience. After it became obvious Phil wasn't going to play his wipe, I just started skipping forward to see if anyone ever dealt with the board. There are definitely times to slow roll removal and answers. When an elf-ball player has all the mana and card draw in the world, it's not that time. If you aren't going to try to win game 1 just to get to game 2, concede and start over. And the crew has revenge weeks for decks that don't have the showing they want. I'm sure if Phil had asked, they probably could have just done a revenge week in the next month. Edit: This comment was overly harsh. The Decree of Pain line is probably a valid attempt. And of course, Seth or Richard are also allowed to play removal in their decks as well. I really enjoy the current four as a group, but I feel like they could use 10% more Crim in their deckbuilding practices.

    @@BrewersKitchen I think a lot of people are making the assumption that you wiping gives you a better chance of winning (which is true to some amount), but was that % increase worth it to be miserable for another hour? I think it’s an important question and one spectators are discounting. A lot of people want to apply cEDH philosophy to always make plays that increase their chances of winning to a casual game where sometimes shuffling up is better. And if you’re not having fun, letting the game end is a good choice! Fwiw I don’t come down on the same side as you and I would 100% fire the boardwipe, but I respect your logic on it

    He could have drawn into mana to cast decree of pain, yeah? He only needed 2 lands and he would draw a bazillion cards and deal with the board. Casting Blasphemous act doesn't help him at all, because he has basically 0 chance to win from that position. At best, he helps Seth or Richard win, and at worst Tomer still wins but it takes several more turns. Conceding doesn't really help if the other two players don't as well. There's also kind of an unspoken rule that they don't concede except when it's completely obvious one player is about to win.

    On the context of not prolonging the game an hour and a half, I 100% agree with Phil not wiping there. Tomer would just rebuild, and he (Phil) doesn't have a deck that quickly recovers. It's easier and more fun to just go to g2.

At that point, he could have drawn into action. Tomer and Seth would have been neutered.. Richard was still a threat but Phil wouldn't have been just dead like he was. It honestly made the first game so bad to watch. Like Seth said later, no point in not playing your deck. Once again, Phil could have casted blasphemous act and regenerated his nightscape familiar, losing only his commander. Then played nightscape. From the 2nd game, we know he had cards he could draw into that would put him back into the game but Phil deliberately took the line that wouldn't allow him the time.

Also, I believe Dockside is only really busted because artifact ramp is so huge in commander. Against my most my decks it comes down to get nothing because I don't need mana rocks in most of them. My mono red or white decks will give up 4 or 5 a dockside.
