Questions, Coffee & Cars, Episode #32 // Will car prices continue to go up?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a Motormouth Couple Car video answering your questions from Instagram like: Will you be covering cheaper vehicles to buy? What is with the Toyota bZ4X in winter and charging? Ford Taurus, Buick La Crosse or Dodge Charger? Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV or Honda CR-V hybrid? Do you expect car prices to continue to rise? What vehicles are you excited to drive in 2024? Will EV prices start to come down?

I would say, the MRSP's aren't going down, but hopefully discounts will be coming back as they seem to be seeing in the US. Also the crazy lease/loan rates will be reduced soon as sales slow.

Drove the previous gen RVR on a road trip through Ontario and it was less than charming. Around town it was fine, shows its price range, but perfectly acceptable. But on the highway, it's just lacking.

@@dstevens518 y’all had a previous RVR generation??? we’re on our first generation of Outlander Sport! it came out for MY2011. I had a 2020 model for a rental car for a week in Seattle. it was a fine car but going up steep hills with 4 people in the vehicle, oooof it was struggling!

Thank you for providing good quality reviews for Canadians. It might sound funny but most of the similar YT channels are US based and I feel I cannot relate much to what they say. Sure the car specs might be all the same, quality, features etc but don't think the specifics to the Canadian market is being covered Like weather,(snow and cold for EVs), pricing(our CAD is obviously weaker than the USD) and the different models that are NOT similar(or available for that matter) to the US in terms of trims&price. I don't have an Instagram account to follow you or comment but I watch regularly your show, Thank you

Right there with you on the comments about early 90s cars and the optional features. My Dad had a 1987 Nissan pickup that he bought used a few years later. It had no passenger mirror and no a/c (in the Southern U.S.). The person who bought it new paid extra for a rear sliding window and bed liner. But more amazing was that the REAR BUMPER was an extra! (Dad just got rid of it in 2022, by the way.)

That bZ4x charge issue sounds like the issue with LEAFs that was blown out of proportion. People are often unrealistic about range and charge requirements for day to day needs. If one plans to do frequent long range road trips, the bZ or similar models, or the LEAF are not the best choices

Car makers love the current situation as they are they are gaining the most. Mark ups, having to wait for so long and then charging more and more....this is so ridiculous and nobody is doing anything about. I CANNOT believe that there is still chip shortages to the point that auto makers are using that as an excuse, I don't think so.

About the last question... I suspect we might land in a scenario where OEMs are pushing a proliferation of BEVs that the mass market doesn't want. So they'll be heavily discounting to move metal and meet mandates - and BEV prices will plummet like a rock. Happy times for BEV fans. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

Answer to the question about moving to EV and concerns about the lack of space to carry everything on a trip with the family : we moved from an Q5 to an Id4 and went for a 4,000Km road trip. 800l of space in the trunk and you can add a hitch cargo platform with a 300l big bag as an extra space without affecting the range! The only limitation would be the availability of charging stations on your way.

Guess I should say I’m sorry again , love you both so maybe I should have not said this but love of cars runs deep as does the feel of a RWD with a 6 speed manual. 17:55 Wrong on some things. In terms of materials prices lithium is down by half this year off of it's high at the very end of last year, nickel is down, manganese, cobalt, graphite all down in price Now that won't immediately effect car costs, first thing that will get effected is the OEMs ability to make a buck off the cars, but it will effect prices later if they start to sit on dealer lots too long like the Ford EVs currently are. Also, range won't be more "later on", it gets longer every year. The volvo/polestars went from low 200s to high 200s/low 300s in just 3 model years as just one automakers example. The part Andrea is right on the money on is the savings you can get on a used model because the tech is advancing so quickly. The only EVs currently not deprecating quickly due to FOMO is Rivians and Bolts and those are for unique reasons.

You mentioned the Chevy Trax, yes it’s cheap entry level vehicle with lots of features and such a small engine but, would it be reliable after warranty?? If I ever (never) buy one I would sell/trade it before the warranty ends or just do a 2/3 year lease with no worries of long term ownership. That can be said about quite a few other vehicles as well. “Just Saying”

Re prices of BEVs… they have been going DOWN regularly since Tesla started a price war in China which then spread to EU and NA. The Chevy Bolt has a huge price drop in 2021-22 to help with sales and recoup from battery fiasco. This price war caused prices in China to drop so much the government got involved as it was making many makes insolvent… and yes one just went into the Chinese version of chapter eleven in the last few days. Prices will continue to drop simply because the costs of raw materials continue to drop as more and more supplies of key materials are found and open3d up to business. Cars will finally be on the same cost curves as tech.

Aside from the fact that KZread car channels only showcase predominantly expensive and fast cars now, very few car channels do material outside the shopping aspect of car ownership. Car channels should also be the place to go for maintenance tip, or tiring info, or driving technique, maybe great drives when you're travelling. But right now the KZread is pretty stale, and it's overly reliant on fast and expensive cars for content.
