Nice to see so many positive owner experiences with their Volvo. Mark, at Savage Geese had an XC90 for several years. He loved the design, interior... but absolutely savages it in terms of repairs and cost to own.

Re Volvo, excerpts from two letters to the editor in the March/April issue of Car and Driver: “I tested every driver seat and rear seat at the LA. Auto show [ ] none were as comfortable as the Volvo 740 that you noted.” “Our family discovered the joy of Volvo seats more than 20 years ago with our first Volvo, an 850 wagon, and a couple years later an S60 that is in the 300,000 mile club. Our daily drivers today are an XC60 and a C30. It’s primarily the comfortable seats but also the longevity of these cars that keep us coming back.” I’ve owned six other cars in addition to a 3 pedal V70 bought new in 1998, and it’s still a dependable daily driver. Seats? The best, as are those in my ‘23 S60.

I really like the channel.. interesting lead in about the infotainment system and ease of use.. We recently went through the agonizing process of purchasing a new SUV. We ended up (wife’s choice) with a 24 CX-50. We found the choices somewhat limited since our last purchase in 2019.. The Mazda has the dreaded awkward infotainment system controls. For us it’s a problem to look down at the knob to use it while driving. We live in a colder climate, have no indoor parking or outdoor power to plug in.. We wanted a gas motor, AWD or 4WD, “no black wheels” and a comfortable drive. I’m showing my age but talking with others in my generation many are frustrated by the newer styling and controls. We have ended up using the car only when the other person is out with the older car. 3 months in, we have ~1100 miles on and one new tire due to a Pennsylvania pothole encounter.

your doing a fantastic job and the best couple reviewers on this planet! In the last 15y i owned 3 Hyundai, all made me want to put them in a huge garbage bin, breaks got on fire for a cheap faulty piece, one of the car transmission got stuck on a gear and didn't want to change, happened in the highway couldn't even accelarate i was affraid to make the engine get on fire. I leave in Quebec and the truck of my elantra was opening for no reason, so sometimes i was getting a call from neighboors, visits telling me the trunk is open, happened many times in winter, during winter storms and during rainy days, i had to go and shovel inside the trunk, seriously for me never and never again! Oh and i told them all the issue, they said they inspected and nothing was wrong with my cars.... Classic hyundai reaction

Feedback re Volvo: Unbeatable with regard to comfort. Loved my 2015 XC60 straight six and no problems over 170 000 k. Just replaced it with another white XC 60. I missed the straight six briefly, but comfort and stunning B&W sound sustem is unbeatable. Even better than the fantastic Fender our son's GTI. I think reliability "problems" were mainly related to infotainment when Google system was introduced.

Volvo Cars is not the same company as Volvo Corp (industrial conglomerate that is publicly owned and traded). Volvo Corp make trucks, heavy machinery and boat motors, among other things. Likewise, now defunct Saab automobile was not the same company as the Saab Corporation which is very much still alive and is a rather successful defence and aerospace manufacturer, known for its fighter jets. Confusing, I know. But the message is: Volvo cars have nothing to do with Volvo trucks. At all.

Current Volvo owner and big fan of the brand. I've owned a 2008 XC70 3.2L (bought used at 100k mi and put another 100k on it with ZERO issues.) I've owned a 2014 S60 T5 ( inline 5 cylinder turbo) Zero issues. Currently own a 2021 XC50 T5 R Design with Polestar optimization package and have had Zero issues. Yes I know a person or two that have had issues big and small, but very few. If you take care of these cars they will take care of you. The few that I know that have had problems simply didn't do their homework and when shopping used got a bad yr or didn't check to see if certain things had been sorted out. If you do your due diligence you can get a great looking/driving SAFE car at a fair price. I fear most people get more car than they can afford and try to run these Volvos on a shoe string budget and then get issues. Remember people, just because a used Volvo might cost the same as a new or newer Toyota doesn't mean it will be cheap to maintain like one. Used Volvos are cheaper to buy than new, yes but still cost the same to maintain like a new one.

A&Z, keep up the good work. Re Volvo: 1. Many may not know Volvo Truck is still Swedish owned. 2. Don't forget the Volvo plant in South Carolina where my Volvo S60 was built. I understand other models are to be built there as well, would make sense. 3. Volvo's reliability isn't the best but a fair assessment would add perspective. Volvo is better than VW, Audi, Lincoln, Chrysler, and Tesla (J D Power 2024 Reliability survey). 4. I'm not a fan of China either but Volvo cars have benefited immensely compared to Saab's fate under GM ownership, not to mention what might have happened to Volvo under Ford.

I have a 2022 Volvo XC60 mild hybrid and for the most part I love it. The Google system is great and it's very peppy! Had some problems with the software. My complaint is the Volvo is a steak with no sizzle. I wish the dash was more configurable to what I would like to see. Also my Volvo had the B&W sound system. You should give it a listen if you can, and it sounds incredible, 10 out 10 for me.

I like the XC60 as well, but the Volvo with sizzle is my S60 Recharge PHEV. This sedan is not only pleasing to the eye, triple digit fuel economy over the last 13,500 miles - with 455HP and 523 lb-ft on tap - is eye popping. My last ICE got 29.7. The only prerequisite is, to plug it in every night. Also of interest, sedans are 12 to 15% better on mpg, cleaner on emissions.

Other than the too-big infotainment screen in the refreshed GTI, I think the updates are all positive. The slight boost in power doesn't hurt either.

My new Lexus' with the new infotainment system can easily be adjusted by just saying "Hey Lexus" and give it instructions as to what you want it to do. I don't have to take my eyes off the road to interact with the infotainment screen. Not sure why Zack doesn't like the latest Lexus system if you don't even have to touch the screen for many functions. I can adjust the cabin temperature, turn the heated seats on and off, change the radio station, asking it to navigate to a location and my other functions by just talking to the system. The voice control is quite amazing and easy to use.

Great work as always - thank you! Re: Volvo reliability, my '21 XC60 T5 with 21,000 miles has had but one hiccup, a failed sensor module that was replaced under warranty. City Safety and Driver Assistance features were disabled, but the car was drivable otherwise. Apart from that - and a biding concern for what other tech may fail down the road - I've been appreciating the car more and more, and am very happy with my purchase. I am with you guys in the sound system. Bose is a hit and miss. My former boss in Florida purchased his wife an Infiniti Q50 right when it came out and my 2015 Silverado LT had a better sound than the Bose in that Infiniti. Also, I cannot stand the Beats Audio system on the Jetta/GLi models. I had a 2017 Jetta GLi with Fender, and a 2019 Passat SE R-Line with Fender, and I can testify it is by far one of the best sound system on cars. From my understanding, VW won an award in 2012 for how good that Fender Sound system was.

Great show, my favourite car presenters and I’m from London. Were you both in show Business previously? Re Volvo I had one and it was very unreliable and at 48k miles needed an engine rebuild and again at 78k miles so I got rid of it. Even worse I tried about 6 Volvo dealers and every single one either broke something or missed something out during the service, when I’d point out work hadn’t been done they’d insist it had even though we both knew the truth. Once bitten never again Volvo.

I was in the market for the EX40 test drove that and the EC40 last year, really great cars but decided on Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD for our road tripper due to CCS charging issues we have had with our 2020 KIA Soul EV. Volvo has adopted the Tesla NACS and will be included in 2025 cars so CCS fast DC charger issues is no longer going to be an issue going forward.

The branding is just the manufacturer paying for a DSP from the brand. The speakers are still normal and cheap, just tuned via the DSP. The Bose in a CX-50 and Telluride sound near identical and nice. Factory Honda sounds wonderful. It's just cheap speakers for the most part.

factory stereos: the best i've heard have been the Mark Levinson in Lexus and Bowers in Volvo. The best bang for buck stereos are the ELS stereos in Acuras. Not crazy expensive and very good quality!

Does this mean you keep each Volvo for an average of only 15.6 months or did you have multiple Volvos in your driveway over 8 years? What is the average km on each zero-issue car? I am looking at buying a Volvo and this would be useful info.

@@siphonsnob I’ve owned seven, a ‘98 V70 (5 speed 3 pedals) still rates a spot in the garage, it is my wife’s preferred daily driver. To be honest, my ‘22 sedan, traded on a ‘23, have had software issues, but I am still glad I bought them. A competent dealership is key.

Love my Volvo V60 Polestar PHEV that I just bought in December, so cannot comment on reliability of this new model, but it's been solid so far. Been driving for 3 months and still have a full tank of gas on this PHEV. Before I bought this one, I owned a 2015 Volvo V60 T6 that I owned until I got the new one, it was very solid reliability-wise. Most issues were minor or usual wear and tear.

I have owned a 2023 S60 PHEV since November 2022, 13,500 miles, plugged in every night, and 134 gallons. My last ice got 29.7 mpg driven the same way. Troublesome software issues yes, but not really impacting reliability. Net net, the performance, comfort, and economy, make it a great car.

Now back to Porsche with Bermester I absolutely love but has a bit too much base. The best is mark levinson followed by Bermester.

Interesting, I test drove an X3 in 2021 and was struck by the seat comfort issue, and the 5 series wasn’t much better. Of course I was comparing them to my 1998 V70, whose seats are still ideal. I ended up with a new 400HP Volvo PHEV.

The quality of any branded stereo is only as good as how much budget the manufacturer allocates to the stereo manufacturer. Though certainly some brands have a consistent sound signature(Bose = boomy low midrange, so much so that in some models, You simply can’t adjust it to sound good.)
