The more I thought about, the longer the list could have been. To the tune of hours. I do actually like that this list isnt 'best of 2023 released analog' synths only. Its the best analog available in 2023. But yet....so many more... make a part two Mr.fisher! Please? 😀 PS: plenty of time to do so Sir since it's clear Sweetwater have you locked in Studio C testing synths all day and night 🌙

I own 2 of the synths on this list: Take 5 and Arp 2600m. I do not own a Sequential Pro 3, but I think that’s worth a mention, as it is quite a beast, in sound and function.
it's the journey you go on with an analogue synth that is the real joy. i spend hours just exploring the changes in a sound as i adjust filters or envelopes set cut off levels and modulation depths. It is the closest i can get to a trip through time and space. Friends often say that i am off in my TARDIS, when i got lost in the process of creation. I pilot a Yamaha CS30, quirky in its operation but highly rewarding when you know what your doing..... but it may be time for me to look at what is available in 2023 and that's why i'm here.
Recently bought an OB-X8 from Sweetwater, my first analog poly. Absolutely love this synth!
The Moog One is honestly a dream for me; it’s exactly the sound I search from a synth

@@dvamateur I too love the Moogs from over here in the UK, they are rock solid - I wish I could afford the Moog One demonstrated here but I thought the Model D reissue was seriously overpriced. I also have Elektron boxes from Sweden, Dreadboxes from Greece, keyboard from Japan and Eurorack modules from the US and Germany. And they can all talk to each other 😊
@dvamateur
Жыл бұрын
@MrMusicbyMartin Well, I haven't tried an Elektron or a Dredbox; however, I tried out the Minimoog Model D reissue at a local music store, and I must say that it is a very desirable instrument, in terms of look and feel, and it sounds good, too. Yeah, it's more expensive than the 2016 model year reissue, but it also looks much better in the new dark wood than the previous one, which was a bit pale if I am honest. Sure, the Minimoog is not cheap, and as far as pure utiliy goes, there are better synthesizers around, including the Behringer Model D. However, of you want to treat yourself to something really nicely looking and feeling great in hands, then the Minimoog is the ticket. It's certainly an acquired taste though, something for the grown-ups if you will, not an entry level instrument, that's for sure. As far as the Moog One goes, it's amazing in therms of utility and features, and the keybed is very nice (even though I prefer the Model D reissue and Oberheim OB-X8 keybeds), the Moog One just doesn't look very good overall. They crammed a lot of utility and features into it, which i think it actually makes a much better value than the Model D or the Oberheim, but the overall design just hasn't grown on me. I very mych prefer the Memorymoog design. That instrument has much better aesthetics than the Moog One.
Good to see Big D back and he should do more demos .
Great review and interesting instrument choices:)! I want them all...
Daniel fisher you beautiful, beautiful man you talking about analog synthesizers is a treasure
I have an Elektron Analog Four synth from 10 years back - it has analogue oscillators which are digitally controlled, so you get the subtle benefits of the analogue sound but it can be thoroughly sequenced, including digital control over the timing, playback, MIDI control and probability of the notes. Plus you can have polyphony and interaction between the four voices. The sound does lack beef, though. I have an Octatrack too, which features many of the workflow aspects of the more recent Elektron boxes, very powerful in their features but I’m careful not to let the looping take over! The Mother32 is a small-format monster that became the centre of my Eurorack setup - it’s a compressed classic east-coast model with extremely versatile CV ports which beg to be used. The Subbharmonicon and DFAM are also worth a look, too, Moog did a great job on all three. I also invested in a Moog Grandmother which again connects really well with my Eurorack gear and sounds absolutely gorgeous with a fully analogue circuit, proper keyboard, lovely Moog filters and a spring reverb to sparkle everything up. Plus it’s solid as a rock and heavier than you expect when you lift it (this is a good thing for me). The Grandmother would be the last one I’d sell. I would love an Arp 2600 or Buchla Easel but more than that, the Syntrx recreation of the VSC3 makes my mouth water, but then the price brings tears to my eyes. I wish Behringer would make a cheap Synthi!
I love the sounds you can get out this stuff.
Just ordered an OB-6 desktop module. Seems like the best solution for a nice poly for me right now. Sounds amazing and is half the price of an x8
I started with software and have now had several analog synths. The biggest thing “virtual analog” can’t do, universally, is filter resonance. I have never found a soft synth that sounds even close to the real thing.
@fjfrancois

@EarlyMist

Tend to agree, as someone who loves full reso self osc etc every few patches and sing song filter sweeps with high resonance settings, the virtuals can tend toward harshness, dissonance, inauthenticity etc. But not always.
The Choices, I am no synth expert but the moogs hit me sonically.
Have the Korg Monologue as well as a Volca Bass (along with some poly FM synths and soft synths), but really want to add a Moog Minitaur.
I bought the Moog Minitaur and kept it to show love for Moog, but I’ll mainly be using Spectrasonics software for my music to limit my options to try to master it and more importantly sculpt my sounds and styles quicker.
Yes, GREAT INFO to inform purchases.....

For a poly, the Take 5 was pretty good too, not as much as the Prophet 5 though but for 1/3 the price, it’s pretty decent.
The 3rd Wave is the best and will be my last synth I get for 2023 and beyond. Not a full analog synth but sounds better than many fully analog synths. This one, the Nina, are undoubtedly the best, latest analogs out for 2023, with the minifreak as the runner-up.

Will they release a module of this Moog one? We don't need more leys which come on everything we own. Should always be an option. I have the OB-X8 module and for a great price compared to Moog one. It's a tough call, you can purchase a lot of other gear for the extra $7K left over. I like it and I could save for the M1 but is that worth what else I'd have to give up? So It can't do what my Osmose does for only $1,800 or my Iridium module for $2,200 so I struggle to rationalize getting it since there's so much else available in modules so we can have it our way like BK.

Nice video. To me personally, the most desirable synthesizer featured in this video would be the Korg ARP2600M. Now, the 2600FS are going from $8,000 and up on EBay... Unfortunately, these are not in stock at Sweetwater at this time. Oh, and talking about pricing, and desirable synthesizers actually being in stock, I was already at a checkout with the JD-XA from Roland. Hi Quentin Lamerand. You are, of course, correct. That was the only product I hadn't reviewed myself, and I misread a hand-made spec sheet. "D'oh!" -_Daniel_
This is the second "Best Something of 2023" video I've seen. It's May. The month. Not haffaway into the year.
This is nice and all, but The Big Lebowski. 10 Cloverfield lane. Barton Fink. Someone please hire John Goodman for films again.
@14:00 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳 huh you can still buy these?
