Addictive Joy.... More Smiles Per Mile. Over the course of 45 years I have brought three new RHD 2CV6s to Australia, 1978 Club (pulled apart in UK, shipped as second hand parts and rebuilt back in Sydney), 1982 Charleston via UK, Ireland, Europe, Canada and USA. plus current 1990 Charleston and 355,000 miles between the 3. You can tell a 2CV driver by the silly grin on their face and gravel rash on the elbows... it is said the limit of the road holding is when the door handles dig in... Never to be sold. It is specified in my will... for my younger brother..

My daughter has one. It's a hoot! But it's a flipping good little car that will attack a pothole and she won't feel a thing, and a sardine can roll-back roof. And it still does 85 miles to the gallon.

Sublime tribute to the most fun you can have on 4 wheels. I once came back to my Charleston to find lipstick marks on the windscreen.... lime green lipstick....

Had several 2cvs and renault 4s would buy a new one in a hearbeat. Incidentally had a renault 6 which was pure luxury luxury version of 4 with thick seats and a whopping 1108cc engine with 45bhp. Even then these all did 50mpg and were easy to repair and reliable transport. Unfortunately like most cars of this era they rotted. And please bring back Quentin my all time favourite reviewer

I had four Dyanes - I needed a little more practically than the much more cute 2CV had. Steve Crowley's story reminded me of my red one going up in smoke for exactly the same reason.

I disagree. When I bought my first one, my wife's mother bought a Renault 4 - oil leaks from the day she bought it and you would have needed a can opener if you like driving with an open roof. Not even a pretty car - or ugly enough to be interesting. Horses for courses and I will agree to differ.

Not just labour intensive production costs and pollution requirements, but crash barrier tests could not comply. For me I rather have a crash in a 602 cc 2CV6 than a 600 cc motor bike. For pedestrians being hit by a lightweight 2CV with a very thin pedestrian crumple bonnet would be safer than any other car.
