I think Quentin Tarantino should let someone preserve and scan his VS-bound print of the U.S. version of Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster if he holds Honda in such high regard.
I always love hearing filmmakers like Tarantino, Del Toro and Scorsese hold Honda and the Godzilla films in such high regard
While he fudges some of the finier details with unknowing inaccuracies, Quentin Tarantino nonetheless has some honestly wonderful things to say on the works of legendary filmmaker Ishiro Honda.
Holy shit these effects are amazing. Where has this guy been all my life.

One of Honda's best, most overlooked science fiction movies is called The H-Man from 1958. It's sort of a cousin to Attack of the Mushroom People, in that the monsters are the liquefied forms of sailors whose vessel strayed too close to an h-bomb test. The flashback sequence, wherein the survivors recount their experience boarding this haunted ship, is probably the creepiest, most effective sequence Honda ever shot.

The effects are super good in H-Man
I was moved watching Mothra for the first time, when I was 43. I think that’s proof of its effectiveness
Ishiro Honda - GOD MODE
Thank you for recognizing His accomplishments
I think Tarantinos last film, his Swan Song should be a classic Monster Movie!!!

A Godzilla movie shot in Japan and set during the 1960s, using the same effects used then. I'd love to see Tarantino tackle that!
Actually The War At Sea From Hawaii To Malaysia, directed by Kajiro Yamamoto with effects by Eiji Tsuyrabaya, is the film where effects wizard figured out how to it all not Insiro Honda. Tsuyrabaya (forgive the spelling) models were so effective that the US figured that they were working off Japanese recon photos. They had the fleet at Pearl Harbor in exact formation as they were the day of the attack. I believe the film was banned here for a while, its now public domain and can be found on KZread. It’s a good and poignant film as well.
I wish I could grab the original Godzilla on celluloid, it would look great on a giant screen.
Now I'm curious about other filmmakers on that list.

Mario Bava is probably the greatest ever Corbucci is the one who inspired the most Tarantino
I remember watching Hilarious House of Frightenstein, followed by Saturday Morning cartoons, followed by Isis/Shazam, followed by European feature cartoons, followed by Honda monsters movies. We had a weird assortment of viewing in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
I would like to note, that Honda didn't directed I BOMBED PEARL HARBOR (1960). It was Shue Matsubayashi. It is more like a remake of Kajiro Yamamoto's 1942 THE WAR AT SEA FROM HAWAII TO MALAYA. Yamamoto was the mentor of Honda and Akira Kurosawa. His best friend. What THE WAR AT SEA FROM HAWAII TO MALAYA and I BOMBED PEARL HARBOR have in common are that they are Toho productions and feature the special effects directed by Eiji Tsuburaya. Actor Susumu Fujita starred in both. And another point: the English language version of I BOMBED PEARL HARBOR has yet to surface on DVD, if I am not mistaken. Edit: I do appreciate Tarantino's enthusiastic nature here!

He's probably thinking of Eagle of the Pacific, which was seemingly the first time Ishiro Honda and Eiji Tsuburaya teamed up, and it even used stock footage of Tsuburaya's special effects sequences from The War at Sea From Hawaii to Malaya to cut down on costs.
@Henning142

@@user-if4nx2jn8r that's certainly possible. And yes, to save costs studios like Toho used stock footage.
I've heard of Ishiro Honda, but who is this "Insero" guy Quentin loves so much? LOL
Glad RODAN gets acclaim; definitely the best T0H0. Gojira is great as well as many others but RODAN IS THE BEST MOVIE
This is what it's about: dancing Japanese moms.
I can't wait to watch all of his movies, they look excellent!! 😄 and the last 20 seconds of the video are soooo mesmerizing, where is that from?

Wow
I would’ve thunk matango was more of del toros shtick but I didn’t know tarintino was into the acid horror stuff that’s sweet
What is this fragment from?
It's usually held in the lowest regard, but my all-time favorite Honda movie (and now, thankfully, my kids' as well) is Godzilla's Revenge with the weird American music and atrocious English dubbing. Criterion included the original Japanese version (All Monsters Attack) in their excellent set, but not the American-ized release, sadly.

If Criterion had included the original English dubs for each film I would've bought that set.

Sergio Corbucci. He was an italian director who made some of the greatest spaghetti westerns not made by Sergio Leone. Films such as Django, the great silence, Navajo Joe, and the companeros.
I bet he has the early release of Godzilla/mechagodzilla before they edited out the original myarobi’s prayer by the wonderful Okinawa singer.
weird no remake of mantango got made, you'd think that is something they'd want to get their hands on recreating
Where can I hear the entire interview? Or was this a compilation of different interviews?

Rodan is super boring, War of the gargantuans is the best Kajui movie.
