Queensland govt to invest nearly $3b into Sunshine Coast rail line
The Queensland government is set to invest nearly $3 billion into building a rail line into the Sunshine Coast.
The rail line is considered a critical project.
Premier Steven Miles has conceded the funding will only get the tracks as far as Caloundra for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Games are scheduled to take place in 2032.
Brisbane's final submission to the International Olympic Committee outlined getting the rail line to Kawana in time for the games.

Imagine how many houses that 3 billion would build in the middle of the worst housing crises EVER

He's Labor. Haven't you noticed money is nothing to them. Never has been. They wouldn't last 5 minutes in the real world. They've got no idea because even if they get kicked out they still retire with a nest egg and we get lumbered with the.bill. No suprise there. Look at the other Labor states. Especially Victoria. Massive debt. Massive interest yet they pay the bloke responsible a fortune for the rest of his life. The systems a joke unfortunately no one's laughing except the politicians.

I think they have already done that with Cross River Rail and planning for the Olympics
Give 3 billion to help the people
The Labor spending machine knows no limits 😊
All talk and never any action from this mob. They would promise anything to save their skins.

Queenslanders are dumb enough to have swallowed it 26 out of the last 30 years, so it works.
If that was Victoria, it would end up costing 12 billion.

It will in Queensland too.
I love it how nowadays they say government will “invest” money. No, they just spend.

The government maintains ownership of the line which remains an asset of increased value. Also there is expected to be a increased efficiency in the economy in the line, or at least an increased capacity, which can then be taxed and any net expenditure recovered. Done correctly thus can be a net gain to the government financially and a return to the taxpayer.
As said below, housing and health. These road/rail projects are money pits.
Its the peoples money not gov
Well won't that be dandy looking out each stop at all the homeless in their tents .

Shameful isn’t it 😭
That aint gonna happen! Its Queensland
It's not an investment, it will never make money......folks here's Labor at it again squandering your money on fanciful projects that no investors would touch.
That’s a lot of ticket sales to get a ROI from 3 billion
Oh look -- A new laundry opening up in QLD

@@electro_sykes explain why the govt built housing and a whole suburb of infrastructure to go with it out near Toowoomba, not the camp, but it's empty too just like the camp. They won't even open that and it just sits there wasting $200+M. They've got their plan with the smart cities n all the homeless will be rounded up like cattle, the govt doesn't care one bit about humans tho infrastructure can make the politicians themselves rich with their backdoor under the table inside deals..
Not again.
About bloody time!!
Will never be $3B it'll be at least double that, this lot couldn't run a choko vine over a shithouse

I predict it will be about $27bn to build a full line from Beerwah to Noosa. At least $17bn to build it on the current plan to Maroochydore with an extra $2bn if to the airport and at least $7bn to Caloundra. From Caloundra they should just build light rail/metro bus
Think you need to invest money in cutting fire breaks in heavy brush areas and better fire fighting equipment

@@chriswatson7965 part of the equipment would be for cutting down and removing brush for fire breaks. Billions on a train line doesn't make since when all these fires happen all the time

@@wade196840 When I said where I meant geographically. As I said before fire breaks are managed at the local government level. I am not aware of any council in Qld in need of money to purchase or maintain equipment or staff for the maintenance of fire breaks. Also fire breaks don't stop fires from happening, they just make control of them easier once they do.

Ridiculously over priced, but at least it's an investment in Australia's infra structure and not some overseas war.
Hahahah
real rail roads only- passenger trains went out in the 50s because of things called cars.
Think about investing 100 billion in Ukraine.
