Queens of the Stone Age - Obscenery (Official Audio)
Музыка
From the album, In Times New Roman…: qotsa.ffm.to/itnr
Mannequins have flawless skin
You can dress em up like me if you like
But don’t lobotomy, I’m happy & free
Listenin to crickets in the pale moonlight
I Don’t give up, I give in
There ain’t nothing to win
I’m making music for all stereotypes
Modern love, unsentimental
Consequences schmonsequences
I can hum it if you like
Hurrah! The Obscenery is fucking useless
Jihad me in Obscenery. Born ruthless
Until the rivers run dry & you’re caught in the middle... what you made
In The division of thighs from the hole where the empathy used to be
until your river’s run dry... fuck me stupid
& you’re caught in the middle... what you made
kiss it goodbye... fuck me stupid
Empty hole where the empathy used to be
In the Obscenery is where you’re happy to be
Ain’t it a little strange?
pretend to be awake?
Do you think we’ll break?
Like a slap in the face.
Enjoy the obscenery, goodnight.
Self help, go on help yourself
You must be pleased with miseries you design
Voyeurism jism may cause blurry visions
Or a spoiled brat for an inner child
Emotional amputees with phantom pains from missing limbos of life
Oh, the guillotine!
I’m drownin in wet dreams
Betcha lose your mind
Hurrah! Let’s do this
Enjoy Obscenery. Born Ruthless
kiss it goodbye.... stupid
We’re all caught in the middle & useless
In the Obscenery forget what used to be
Cause there’s no love for anyone who isn’t me
Ain’t it a little strange?
pretend to be awake?
Do you think we’ll break?
Like a slap in the face.
More than a little strange
We really need to wake
Everything gone break
We’re too fucking late
Enjoy the obscenery
Goodnight.

I love all 3 too. My favorite number actually.
Queens has always had their own inexplicable quality that makes them unique - this reveals itself during certain parts of any given song, real Queens fans know what i mean. For this song, undoubtedly it's at 1:56 . Like up until that point you're listening, grooving, enjoying.. but that part hits and its like WOAH hello, there we go. Classic Queens. It's like the world's most emotionally satisfying scavenger hunt

@@elliotrodriguez523 I'm German and English isn't my mother tongue either. But I interpret the title as an allusion to late Roman decadence, the decline of a great power. Times New Roman is also a popular font and this is a reference to the new focus on lyrics that this album brings.

I've been reading the lyrics. Enthropic obsolescence twine with jaded fracturism in a telling preappocolyptic vestigial. It seems both badass and cynical. There is a sense of loss about mutual aid that unfortunately will likely stand the test of time for it's verbose rhetoric. I was thinking of old neighbors b4 it played... Not exactly the wordage that I would trust w them, yet peer support can take many forms and also I want to encourage your fans to research post- structuralism. ❤ {Oh Joshy, please behave!}

A minute in and this is a classic.
Holy smokes 😮😮 Nostalgic and new!
Amidst personal turmoil, and declining spaces for hard rock in the public consciousness, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme entered the creation of “In Times New Roman” with a selfish mission. “We’re going to make something that sounds as brutal as it feels to be alive right now” I think on his part of life’s journey, there’s no armour left. It’s only about walking deeper into the darkness. Homme has been embroiled in a legal battle with Brody Dalle, his ex-wife and front person of The Distillers, where accusations of violence and restraining orders have been traded during a lengthy custody battle of their three children. Elsewhere, recently revealed, he’s been treated for cancer, and been rocked by the deaths of key collaborators and friends, including Mark Lanegan. If there’s anything to emerge from the mire, it’s that QOTSA find themselves where a lot of fans want them: back in the sludge. “In Times New Roman” is a grotty listen, using pain to encourage a rawness in their sound . The album as a whole, isn't too much different from other work they’ve produced before. Everything is coated in a sludgy mix of fuzzy guitars and bottom-feeding drums and bass, but with an apocalypse either narrowly avoided or on the horizon, depending on your view, they're all the more potent. The opening "Obscenery" whisks guitars from one side to the other as Homme doubles down on a falsetto that barely rises above a musical clatter which shifts from synth-assisted strings to a brief percussion interlude that teeters on breakdown. It's a highlight of In Times New Roman ... along with the brooding "Carnavoyeur" and "Emotion Sickness," a horns-raising riff monster that nearly begs for room-clearing volume. Produced by the band and recorded at Homme's home studio and Rick Rubin's Shangri-La facilities, the album could be a sequel to the excellent ... Like Clockwork from 2013. Check out the appropriately lacerating solo in "Paper Machete" and the devilish march of "Made to Parade," throwbacks to classic QOTSA. But all the sludge and grime comes with some baggage.. The nine-minute closing track, "Straight Jacket Fitting," tags on an acoustic coda, a head-cleaning of sorts that will have you wishing it was a few minutes shorter. Homme's desperation, however, is real. Talk of oblivion, suicide, emotional casualties and being torn up inside are themes and all too real are found within. It feels like a wholly necessary outpouring of creative catharsis. Sludge on Jim
Love the gritty guitars w the floating airy vocal....fucking awesome.
Until the rivers run dry!!!!
I saved this song and didnt listen to it until i arrived in vegas for #skankfest 2023 in september. I played it for the first time when i stepped outside the four queens hotel onto fremont surrounded by the golden nugget, binions casino, fremont casino, and four queens at night. Neon lights with the viva vision ceiling showing psycadelic-esque projected images that change from asteroids to giant rolling dice. On the street were people drunk stumbling, midgets breathing fire, ladys of the night pulling johns aside, homeless people doing the moonwalk, elvis impersonators eating sandwiches, nuns with their breasts out at a photo booth, children rapping for money while the parents filmed for social media, crowds of people dancing and smoking together, and full scale debauchery. With me walking around fremont street listening to this song. That experience is etched in this song forever.

Love the song! I’m really curious as to why “Villains” and “…Like Clockwork” are shown on the same ribbon under the snakes on the graphic in the video. QOTSA do most things* (these days at least) very methodically and planned. Maybe it’s trying to say that ITNR is the final album of a trilogy (pretty sure someone else had this thought, would give credit if I remembered them, if you read this, do reply!)?
