Something about 1974-1980 Freddie (his most vulnerable romantic years when he was so desperately yearning for love and trying out his sexual identity) is so magical, so enchanting, so beautiful. It doesn't help that this was when he was his most alluring and handsome (but that's my opinion, really). Looks aside, for the voice alone, he was unmistakably a legend. I had no idea this song existed. I watched the live version before this and it, well, took my breath away. It's really a pity I was only a kid when he passed and didn't have any idea he existed, really. I would love to have been there, at that concert, to hear him unveil this outpouring of his heart. It's uncertain who this was for, but good grief, to have a song like this written about you - that would be unforgettable. I hope whomever the song was intended for (maybe multiple people) knew what a privilege it was to have someone so talented dedicate something so haunting and beautiful to them. I've felt these emotions and these words in my life. What a heartbreaking, soul-carving, beautiful experience to listen to this song.

What made him such a famed musician is his ability to manipulate his voice for dulcet tones, loud, scratchy wails, or just a balance betwixt the two - high pitch, low pitch, growly, soft, it was all at his disposal, and he used it to its fullest extent. Hence, he is the champion, and he rocked us like crazy, taking our breath away in the process.

Freddie had great softness and vulnerability which he was willing to show in his music. He had many qualities, but I believe his expression of the fragility and yet strength of love and humanity is what makes him so beloved. His vulnerability touches our souls across time and space.

The one thing I love about the Internet is it has bought the unknown music of queen to so many people and touched so many hearts. I became a queen fanatic at 8, had their first 10 albums and my favourite queen music has always been the songs "nobody else" knew. Growing up it wasn't cool or fashionable to like Freddie and queen. I liked that too. I could sing every song word for word from all those albums. They were and are geniuses. They touched so many people with the hits but touched the real fans with the ballads and mesmerising ones. At 49 I have grown to understand that when I find a real queen fan (and this is holding nothing against the millions of ones who have since discovered queen later in life or growing up, as my daughters have when I introduced them many years ago) they have been so deeply touched by their music in a way that I have known no artist to do. It is purely mesmerising. Queen will live forever....

Why wasn't it cool to like Queen at that time? Really, I'm curious. I'm myself 23 and found Queen when I was around 20/21. By found, I mean beyond "We will rock you and We are the Champions". It seems that there is always someone calling every one of their songs underrated and underappreciated. You are right about them being geniuses though. They have songs for every emotions.

paul hach I have loved Queen since 1975 and have met only one other true Queen fan in my lifetime. That was early '80's. We always used to say there is Queen and then there is everybody else. every time we get together we used ask Queen questions. We try to out do each other. None of us ever missed one question. Regretfully he moved. Queen lost the States at the time of "I want to break free" video. Queen were not Cool and fashionable back then. But i did not care I used blast Queen out of my car and out of my bedroom window. Sadly nobody I know cares about Queen today. They cannot seem to get the respect that they deserve. I appreciate what You Tube does, and all the millions of fans that watch Queen and listen to there songs. But most will never know how it is to put a Vinyl record on the stereo and listen to Queen, with all there deep tracks. Radio keeps circulating same four songs. Queen is more than that.

I hope you see this paul hach. I will forever be grateful to Queen and most of all Freddie. I had a very hard childhood, was very emotionally charged and knew I was only the burden. I was different, no real friends (wasn't allowed) etc. As I got to be a young insecure woman I heard my friend playr In The Lap Of The Gods from her new Queen Album. I immediately fell apart. To imagine this guy wrote about ME, and he let me know it is out of our hands. Everything will fall into place. Yes it would be allright. His music wasn't just music. He wrote for thos of us almost like him, he knew how to communicate. An d this song is for him. Freddie you take my breath away. everytime.

This band has been a constant companion to my wonderful marriage. We listened as just kids .The moment we met at just 13 & 14, I knew I would marry him. He simply "took my breath away". This song came floating back into my heart once again today. We are more in love as every second passes and are about to celebrate our 45 th Wedding Anniversary. Yes, He still takes my breath away in our old age of 61 & 62. Freddy had a precious gift from God and I wonder if he, and the rest of the band had any idea how important they were to their "fans"? Sometimes, as humans, we need a little help to express feelings so deep that we may not know how to express them...then there is the gift of music. It soothes the soul, and once again...takes our breath away. The angels have a very precious soul to join the choir.

Couldn't afford much cause still at school so with pocket money went and purchased "A Day At The Races" opening track was the brilliant "tie your mother down" love the heavy rock but then the second song was this. Just blew me away. How can a band go from rock to this. The harmonies, piano and vocals. Just perfection. Freddie was a genius. vowed from then to get all the albums. Never regretted it.

The fact that they didn't come up with the same thing over and over, the fact that they had four very different people who all gave all they had to make a new, amazing product with every record. Astounding band, astounding people. And I hope that John is okay.

What can I say, but it helps that Queen had 4 very talented musical rebels, who knew their own styles, strengths & whom had flat out refused to produce the same genre or style of music over & over & be limited by popular demand..4 musical geniuses who had been extremely comfortable in their own skin that they never felt the need to follow another band's style just to sell their records..in fact, they were & still are revered by others in the music industry..Queen the irreplaceable pioneers of rock.. 😊!

There’s just something so magical about this song but i can never really pinpoint it- is it the delicate piano? The emotional guitar solo? The soft heart wrenching vocals and harmonies? I don’t know, but I know it all becomes light as a feather when it’s all strung so Beautifully together, with such personal yet universal lyrics-it gives a far greater depth to words and phrases spoken more often than there are people on earth, as well- the phrase "I love you” is one we’ve all heard and recognize, yet this makes us plain awestruck, as if we had just heard this sentence for the first time and it felt just right... I... I just can’t describe this song, really, and it really says How something so small and simple, can also say so much and hit us with several new emotions all at once... ...I would say that this is probably the most underrated song on the planet (and I don’t mean among Queen fans, I mean the music world) and should be shown more love... It just takes your breath away, really...

Freddie Mercury was truly a talent in terms of his voice, but where he truly shined was creating enchanting melodies that strike the human mind and its emotions right at our core. There are many great composers, singers, and lyrical geniuses, but Freddie was something that the planet has never seen the likes of. Thank you for your comment, this has more meaning and magnitude than just within the Queen fandom.

One of the thinks that I just love about this song: it shows so mush passion even if it has "I love you" only at the end. Much better than a song full of the same expression, where it becomes overused in my opinion. Freddie kept this lyric for the end, like the truly musical genius that he is, and for me, it became the most beautiful "I love you" I've ever heard!

It don’t matter to whom he wrote this lyrics. What matters is the way this melody was delivered and the impact in people minds. A lot of people can identify themselves with this song, because is a heartbreaking and soulful melody that let you feel the kind of emotion we have inside, but we don’t know how to express them. This song like I said no matter for whom he write it, it’s a very relatable to the people, not matter which sexuality the person listen to it belong. It’s very saddening how people look deeply in the negativity of the person life. He put his soul and emotions deeply necked out in beautiful words
