The look on your face at the start of the song was priceless! Even though you'd just read about the controversy, you were shocked when you realized just how blatant dumbass Vanilla Ice's thievery really was. That gave me my biggest & best laugh of the day. Also, Freddie's "call & response" was usually well into the show, so even though it sounds like a warm-up it was really his way of interacting with the crowd (and including them), which is something he really loved doing. Just one more thing that made the man so special.💙 There's another variation on it at the start of the "Dragon Attack", Montreal '81 video. And the song is great too. Would love to see you react to it! And the studio version is so crisp (& funky) it'll knock your socks off.

May loved doing that, too. Both of them created most of the crowd-based stuff, like May created 'We Will Rock You', with the foot-stomping bit to use the crowd. Also, it's disgraceful, that Ice Ice Baby song. On a related note, Freddie does a great David Bowie here. Queen: the greatest band of all time!

I thought the same thing.. I mean when someone who has never heard the Queen song under pressure but has heard ice ice baby to immediately be able to tell that it is the same exact music really tells you something.. something that Vanilla Ice should have known (My thought is that he probably did but didn't want to have to credit anyone so he thought he could get away with not crediting Queen)

They were just hanging out with Bowie in the recording studio when the notes came to Deaky and he grabbed his bass and played them over and over. Then they went for pizza..... and Deaky forgot the notes!! LOL! Luckily Roger remembered them, and when Deaky played them again the rest of the band and Bowie joined him and.... a masterpiece was born!

@@abfan8333 Yes it was copyrighted by Queen. Copyright law can be a fine line and has to be proved that another artist is using your notes without permission. The minute an artist performs/creates/writes down chords in a certain order it immediately belongs to them but you have to have proof i.e. written score with dates, a recorded performance etc . Anyone can copyright something, just write/draw on a piece of paper and post it to yourself, post date mark is proof. Some artists have been sued for using as little as 4 notes in a certain order by another artist. VI just heard it, liked it, didn't even try to hide it, bloody cheek, do your own work!

What the hell was Vanilla Ice thinking? He stole a very prominent bassline from a world famous band's duet with another world famous artist, and not only a sample from the intro, but a refrain from the chorus complete with piano throughout the entire damn song! Did he somehow delude himself into believing that no one would notice? He just has to take a great big ole L on that one. hahahaha

RM Worthington Lots of artists get bad advice and bad deals in music. Sampling in the 80s was a free for all and only in the 90s did artists start suing for credit. Queen could have done a full cease and desist, but they were quite smart knowing that they were getting free attention from the whole mess.

RM Worthington As I recall, he claimed the bass line for Ice Ice Baby was original because he added an additional note which sounded different to the rest so therefore he didn’t steal anything. Now, I’m not really a Vanilla Ice fan, I’ve never paid much attention to that song, but I’m pretty sure that bass line is note for note the same as Queens, so he is a really, really bad liar.

Loved your expression when it started, and you realised it was exactly the same as Ice Ice Baby. Yet Vanilla Ice denied it sounded the same. Come on it's a complete copy.

To get the full effect of the Queen / David Bowie (pronounced: Bow-eee) collaboration, listen to the studio recording. It'll give you chills because it's so beautifully haunting and you can hear both vocalists. Freddie is the Alto/tenor and Bowie was tenor/bass. Those amazing vocal styles complimented each other perfectly. 👑⚡️

No dude, he would note to the crowd to hear them sing it back. Always. It's a stadium crowd. It's different to play to 100,000 than 100. We don't have stadium bands any longer that play their instruments and sing. He was just letting everyone there know he was singing to them. Subbed btw.

You are correct. It was the way Freddie prepared. Before sound checks, Freddie use to come out and "Ah, Oh, etc." to an empty stadium.

I love this video. The live version really lets you see how much he loved music and the fans, he wanted so much to share it with the world. ❤❤ I've been singing, acting, dancing for about 12 years and the way he just strolled on stage and started doing his vocal warm ups with the crowd. That's something choir directors/ music teachers do all the time, because they love what they do and they can't wait to share the music and their enthusiasm with other people who are just as passionate about it as they are.
