I gave myself a tarot spread about how other people perceive me versus how I perceive myself, and I got the Queen of Swords for the former. Fun fact per Rachel Pollack - the red tassel on her left wrist is a Victorian symbol of widowhood. I know this queen is often associated with sorrow. I always thought I was a queen of Cups, but the Four Queens Spread said Q. of Swords, Cups second queen. That makes sense as I can be an emotional idiot... 😕even though academically smart enough. Great video!

Oh my days your interpretation is so on point Kate, it was as if someone was describing me to a T I luv the Q of S when I do readings. To me personally she symbolises the Mature Adult ego, evaluating, assessing, concluding, impartiality, unbiased no shilly shallying, or wooliness. I personally have a blast air wise with Mercury ruled people, Virgo and Gem. No guesses I am Aquarius!. I lack the more pragmatic things may be. Another fascinating and informative video, Kate! Thanks! I had never paid any real attention to this card before, but your description made her sound a lot like me (even though the card I really identify with is The Hermit. But then again, these two have so many things in common! I don't know if a Queen would ever consider marrying a Hermit - probably not! - but in any case I think we would get along great!) One thing I noticed that I don't think you mentioned, is that the blue sky and clouds in the background are repeated in the blue sky and clouds on the Queen's robe!

I pulled this card this rising for a general reading on the future from my Rider Tarot Deck for the first time, and the traditional meaning of this card had me very perplexed considering I am married. However, after listening to your video/hearing the modern breakdown of this card I have much better clarity of why I pulled it. I wanted to add that I always saw her outstretched hand as almost a gesture of inviting discussion with her. Receptivity to ideas. And her upward pointing sword as meaning fair balanced and cutting, but not hostile or aggressive, like a sword pointing at someone might appear. Those are my thoughts but thats what I love about the tarot is how everyone adds thier own nuances to the cards, makes for interesting readings!

I see this card as the receptive energy of heaven. She tells of an energy that asks you to speak your truth to her, and she will listen. She reminds you of the value of your truth, and honors intellect as the anchor point. We can see her facing sideways, meaning she is listening, the angel facing us tells us she is understanding, an angel asking you to speak your mind. She wants you to be free in your mind and thinking, firm, and sincere.

I too see a lot of myself in the Queen of Swords. I laughed that so many of her traits are just like. I can be judging at times and come off as chilly and often need to bring my heart back in , although as you said it’s never intentional. I also can be critical but yes, worst on myself.

Great video, I'm just about to start my first professional Tarot reading job in a cafe/antiques shop. I'm a bloke so there isn't too much QoS in me but I like a good book and I'm observant because I'm a birdwatcher but I'm messy af so. My crush is 100% QoS although she seems messy too which is a relief!

Hi Kate I just love learning all about the court cards!What I have in common with the queen of swords is I search for the truth. I am a bit of a clean freak. I’m a Virgo, lol. I don’t relate to her totally. I need to be more focused. I’m not a history buff. I do like to read. But I’d rather have a knitting in my hand when I have nothing to do like waiting for a doctors appointment or something I know that I am a little judgy too haha I do work hard and spend a lot of time working. I can’t wait to hear about the queen of wands I have a black cat that I adore!

Thanks for this - I've been pulling Queen of Swords a few times in my recent readings. I'm currently relating to quite a few of her characteristics (and have been told that I don't suffer fools gladly), except I'm not putting in enoigh effort to read which I've been meaning to resolve.

I am very blunt but I can read a room. However even after reading the room I don’t care to spare feelings. Truth is truth, we get so caught up in facades to where people don’t want to be honest with one another. I get this card and the lovers card (I’m so confused by the two cards together) every time I ask tarot how does my leadership view me (I’m in the military) I work under orders for people that I believe may not believe that I can do and accomplish things that I do. I feel as if they underestimate my intelligence. It does drives me nuts! Being a black woman and being young sometimes they leave me out of the loop of things because I work with a lot of men but then they’re shocked to see how I get things done. They really underestimated me. Now I know more about the Queen of swords. At work I am her😊Great video by the way! ❤

I relate to all of them in some way, but probably the Queen of Swords the most.

I hear often references to court cards referring to people, do you have any resources for learning to spot that or better read courts in this way? Personally I can’t wait for the queen of cups video! She comes up a lot for me and I’d love to have a deeper knowledge on her meanings 😊 Love your videos!

Thanks John - glad you enjoy these! A court card can symbolize a person in your life or an aspect of your self - I can't really think of any specific resources that will tell you how to tell the difference though. I think it depends on what your reading about and the other cards.

Ahhhh this is why I treat writing a complaint letter as a hobby. Absoloutely love this take on the queen of swords. I do think her ability to keep her distance emotionally can actually increase her empathy in a strange paradoxical way that I may not have got across 🤔🤔 Like I do think she can hear your pain cos she has the ability to not get engulfed by it if that makes sense? Also I'm a Virgo, so really interesting that you associate the card with Virgo. I believe it is traditionally a Libra card.

I can relate a little bit to this Queen. I hate liars, fools, small talk, I think everyone should be able to speak their truth and I have been accused of being too blunt and rude at work. Most of this Queen's traits remind me of my work persona versus my overall persona. I used to read a lot but it was all fiction. I would not scoff at Danielle Steel but I prefer Stephen King. LOL

Everything… I’m a Virgo

I identify with everything! I think the critical and judgmental sides get a little out of hand is because the Queen of swords can be so objective! And at times can make one detached from other people's feeling but not intentionally of course! I can't help but see all kinds of details in people....from expressions to tones in voice and mannerisms and flaws and facades etc. But I've learned to stop before I speak....is it necessary to draw attention to these nuances or not. I also notice the very great detailed nuances of peoples good traits. Speaking critically has been fueled by people laughing hysterically aS I dramatize it but I think of it as being the Lightner of moods but like you say.....it might hurt someone. I have been busy trying to transform having the right to speak truth at all costs to finding a better way to present it or just not speaking at all!!!........that's a difficult one BUT....it brings wisdom. Thar was the best Queen of swords explanation I've ever heard....thank you!

From your explanation, I am getting some serious Virgo vibes from this card, despite it being representative of air. Hermione Granger really pops up in my head as someone who almost fits this description to a tee 😂Despite being an earth sign, I think it's more to do with Virgo being ruled by Mercury, as this card sounds very mercurial in nature. None of the air signs fit this description as much, except maybe Aquarius?

I would have liked to have seen the darker side, because you did that with the queen if cups all of the signs have lower consciousness traits I’m the queen of cups But don’t resonate with the dark side. I think it depends on your level of consciousness ❤

I thought I did go over this Queen's dark traits? She can be cold and bitchy and overly judgemental and harshly critical. And yes, you might not resonate with the darker traits (or even all the positive traits) - not everyone who is like the Queen of Swords will necessarily be bitchy and judgy - it does depend on your level on consciousness, for sure :)

I relate to almost everything. I used to write erotic literature 🤣 definitely gotta get in my head before there's an attraction 🧲. I don't think I'm good at reading a room and I'm definitely not as creative/spiritual as I used to be. One trait I'd love to minimize is to be less aloof/cold/reserved. Oh and I definitely want to be seen as intelligent and smart. I have a difficult time believing I'm intelligent/smart so when someone says I'm intelligent or smart it is more of a compliment to me than being called beautiful or sexy. And when someone makes me feel dumb or an idiot, I shut down.

Yes, I do follow the traditional tarot meanings, but I also have my own interpretations and ideas about the cards - this is what makes the Tarot come alive for me! And there is always a bit of "speculation" when it comes to doing a reading, in my opinion.
