Queen Mary of Teck | The Crown
Фильм және анимация
Mary of Teck was Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions from 1910 until 1936 as the wife of King George V. She was concurrently Empress of India. She was the mother of Kings Edward VIII & George VI, and was the Grandmother of the current monarch, Elizabeth II. Although technically a Princess of Teck, in the Kingdom of Württemberg, she was born and raised in the United Kingdom.

History hasn’t given her the recognition she deserves. Picked by Queen Victoria wife of a king mother of two kings grandmother of the current Queen. She is one of my favorite Royals because of her and others the house of Windsor lives on. Queen Mary was not one to mess with she knew all the rules and she knew how to play them.

Apparently there is a story of Queen Mary and a relatively young Princess Elizabeth coming into a town and Elizabeth said “Look at all the people who have come to see me”. There was precedence in their own family. George's mother, Alexandra, was a Danish princess who also came from financially constrained circumstances. Her younger sister, Dagmar, was engaged to the Tsarevich Nicholas, heir to the Russian imperial throne. He died before they were married, and the Danish royal family pushed Dagmar onto Nicholas' brother and the new heir, Alexander (they married and eventually became Tsar Alexander III and Empress Maria - their son was the last tsar of Russia). Rank and position meant everything to royalty in the 1800s, and they were always trying to make advantageous marriages.

She was driven just by duty and respect for The Crown. Both she and King George V were pretty poor parents in the main, but when it was just her and the children the Duke of Windsor said that she was more fun and played games with the children. Being remote from children was usual in aristocratic families then. She could come across as severe, but the reason was, to use her own words, 'you see, I have such a vulgar laugh. Having known people who knew her I would say it's pretty accurate. Pity the programme as a whole isn't. For instance, Queen Mary never had a maroon Rolls Royce, she had 2 green Daimlers. The scene where she curtsied to the new Queen happened at Marlborough House not Sandringham. She attended King George VIs lying in state but not funeral. Queen Mary not only had to endure the loss of her husband, but she also outlived three of her six children; the three sons that died before her were arguably her favourites. You can tell, though, that she imparted her legacy of duty onto her grandchildren, and it's most apparent in not just Queen Elizabeth, but also the Duke of Kent, who was the oldest son of Queen Mary's fourth son, Prince George. They are the two most senior royals now by age and the Queen is in her mid-90s and the Duke of Kent in his mid-80s and their loyalty to their duty to serve the crown is remarkable.

I think the eradicating ivy is based on her stay at Badminton during the 2nd World War. Queen Mary catalogued the Royal Collection and found that various pieces were missing having been loaned and not returned. She set about reclaiming the loans and whilst she had a reputation for visiting and complimenting and not moving until she was offered various pieces I do wonder if it was true or if this was all tied up with her reclaiming loans. She was very concerned about the Edward Vlll's relationship with Mrs Simpson and went to a country house where they had been guests. She asked to see the bedrooms and noted that the adjacent rooms shared a bathroom and made the pun "How very convenient"

@@chrisw6704 How good to see someone not parroting the nonsense about Queen Mary being a kleptomaniac. As you will know there are absolute no proven instances of that. It would be counter to everything she believed in. Certainly she was interested in getting items back that had been in the Royal collection and left for some reason, often when Queen Victoria let her children take things on their marriage and setting up their own home. There are, however, numerous cases of her buying things. Having said that she did accept gifts. There is a story about her visiting Partridge, a high end antique shop that used to be on New Bond Street. She once went with Lady Constance Milne Gaskell, who recognised an antique hanging that came from her family home. Mr Partridge offered it to her, which she declined. Queen Mary said to her, 'Constance, never refuse a firm offer. I never do. ' The ivy hatred went back before Badminton. Trees at Sandringham were always stripped of it.

Queen Mary was perhaps more understanding of the idea of a constitutional monarch than her daughter-in-law. It is useful to watch the documentary on the Reign of George V and Queen Mary, they changed the face of the monarch from the remote and interfering Victoria and fun loving Edward Vll. The monarchy changed under George V to be more involved with the people, firstly because of World War 1, but also because Irish Independence, the Great Depression and also the calls for Indian Independence.
Queen Mary was never Queen of Teck! She was Queen of the United Kingdom & The Dominions. She was a Princess of Teck however.

vejo Mary uma mulher rancorosa, brava, ambiciosa... ( posso estar enganado) mas ela passa esta impressão. Snob!
Look, people with no mask!
Prince Harry looks like her
She wasn't "Queen Mary of Teck". She was Princess May of Teck.

@@traviss6564 When Empress Zita of Austria died it was reported that she was the last european empress, only to be reminded that Queen Elizabeth, consort of George Vl, was Empress of India until 1947
Mary of Teck was also a kleptomaniac.
What did the series “The Crown” actually get right, nor even close to accurate? And this casting of Queen Mary is ridiculous. Completely.

It's a beautifully produced series but probably 5 percent fact and 95 percent fiction.
