As an Australian, I am torn between wanting to break away and become a republic and embrace the future but at the same time, relish our great history with our monarch. We have loved her and connected with her since her first trip to see her loyal Australian subjects. She is a deep part of our history. As was her ancestors. I remember my mother talking about her father, King George and there are reminders everywhere of Queen Victoria but we are in love with Elizabeth like a mother. There is no doubt that it is only a matter of time that Australia will become a republic but our connection to OUR royal family will never be lost, never be forgotten. Long may she live.

She promised the British people she would do her very best for Her Country all the days of her life, and even though she has lost her much loved rock, Prince Philip, and age has made her frailer she still does her very very best to help hold the country together, I think she is truly wonderful, and we will never see her like again sadly. I was born the year she became Queen, so for me she feels like family…a constant in my life…always there which has brought me comfort and a lovely warm feeling inside. She is petite, 5ft 4”, I think. She visited my town with Philip, a few years ago. Unfortunately I couldn’t get to the front of the crowds and being small, myself, I could see Philip, clearly, but could only see the top of the Queens hat, bless her 😄 I love her , I think she’s amazing 🥰

It's strange, but, just like the Silver, Golden & Diamond Jubilees (& I remember them all!) there's a sense of, for once, everyone in the country thinking about the same thing & planning to do pretty much the same thing: despite everything, we're still us &, perhaps secretly, accept a lot of the reason we're 'still us' is because of The Queen. Long may She reign over us, for now & forever in our otherwise uptight 🇬🇧 minds.

A recent You Gov poll showed that the majority of the country were not planning any kind of celebration. Yes, every who works in an office is happy to have an extra couple of days but the majority of people will still be working - bus drivers, shops, medical staff, delivery drivers, etc. Personally I have no interest in celebrating the royal family. They cost UK citizens millions of pounds, and I don’t see what they add to the country, other than some tourism which is about all we have going for us in the UK. Any person who has the money, privilege, advantages, servants etc etc that the queen/ royal family have, would be capable and able to continue until the queens age so I don’t see why people consider her to be so special.

I love my Queen.

We get quite a few oldies in our local paper in my town sitting with their all their birthday cards and pride of place is the one from " Buckingham palace " . A nice little touch for the oldies.
