Well let’s start with the bass player John Deacon wrote the song and that great riff. The band didn’t think they should put it out as a single until Michael Jackson persuaded them to. It was the first Queen single to go to number one in the states. The cool sound effects were from Brian’s guitar with a special amp built by John to work with Brian’s custom guitar. Brian built his guitar with his father as a 19 year old, he called it the red special. I would recommend 100% The live aid concert 1985. It is been said to be the best live concert in Rock history.

Don't sleep on Brian May, one of the best guitarists to ever play. He built that guitar you hear (with his father's help) when he was 16 years old. The wood is from an old fireplace. The guitar is known as Red Special, and has its own Wikipedia entry. He's got a PhD in Astrophysics, and he wrote most of the music and lyrics for the band. Freddie had the voice and the spotlight, but he wasn't the only standout in Queen.

If you’re wondering why this particular song has such a strong bass line and strong percussion throughout It’s because it was written by John Deacon, the bassist for the band. Freddie encouraged him to write and helped him a bit when he started out and he turned out to be one of the band’s strongest writers.

My favorite is one of those 'hidden gems', as it isn't played as often by reactors - Love of My Life. It's a ballad, but the words are so powerful! Freddy wrote it as a tribute to his former girlfriend / best friend when he heard she was getting married. It really isn't a sad song, more a regret that things between them will forever be changed. The best recording is life from their concert in Rio, I believe. Hope you'll give it a shot soon! Honestly, there isn't a Queen song that's bad, so whatever you want to listen to, we'll be there to join the fun :)

She felt it was so significant-and before that she also played we will rock you. She believed in us but she also wanted to give a little context of powerful inspiration. What a wonderful lady.

There’s a song on there called “Death on Two Legs”, it’s about a former manager who was stealing from them and Freddie was absolutely vicious in the song. Brian May said that he actually felt guilty playing it live. There’s another song on that album called “I’m in love with my car” that was written by Roger Taylor (the drummer). He sings lead while playing drums, and the live version is definitely worth watching. Queen 2 (their second album) has insane production on it, and it’s a good look at their early stuff. As a metal head, I assume you know Metallica? You may already know their Grammy winning song, Stone Cold Crazy, is a Queen cover.. (Queen did it better.)

Lily of the Valley, It's Late and Lap of the Gods Re-visited were all awesome songs that were not singles and so were not big hits. So many great songs the list would be immense

This song was written by Queen's bassist John Deacon and Freddie really wanted the band to record it but Roger (drummer) and Brian (lead guitarist), not so much. Freddie and John pushed them to record it. John tried hard to explain to Freddie the sound he was striving for but was handicapped because he didn't sing. Nevertheless, Freddie understood what John wanted and nearly made his throat bled getting that gritty sound. FYI - Those odds sounds actually were all produced by Brian on his homemade electric guitar, the Red Special, while it was connected to a treble-booster and then to the Deacy amp. The amp was designed and built by bassist John Deacon who has a degree in electronic engineering. Brian could produce all sorts of sounds using that setup including sounds reminiscent of various orchestral instruments, such as violin, cello, trombone, clarinet, or even vocals, They recorded "Another One Bites The Dust" for the album "The Game" and it was part of the live concert rotation but they never intended to release it as a single. Michael Jackson, who was a big Queen fan and a friend of Freddie's, always came to their concerts when Queen played L.A. "Another One Bites The Dust" was part of the show. When the concert was over, Michael came backstage so enthusiastic about that song. He told them that it would be a big hit and that they had to release it as a single. Again Roger and Brian were resistant to the idea, but Freddie talked them into it. "Another One Bites The Dust" was Queen's biggest hit in the USA. If you like this bass line, you should check out the song "Under Pressure" which also has an iconic bassline (it may sound familiar since another recording artist stole it for his song). I love their live performance of the song at Wembley from 1986 - kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYqu2NGJgJmzZZM.html. BTW - Did you notice Freddie's magic hat during the video that kept changing colors? Another example of Freddie's sense of humor.

Thanks Polo! You must see a version of this - LIVE at Montreal, 1981 - it's GREAT. Queen has a way of adapting their songs to the stage that is just incredible. This is probably one of the most recognizable bass lines ever written....John Deacon, the fantastic (shy, humble) bassist for Queen for 20+ years wrote this song...Brian May on guitar and John on his bass are on FIRE! Another song with yet another incredible, well known bass line is "Under Pressure" written by Queen and David Bowie when at Queen's studios in Montreux, Switzerland. See QUEEN perform it LIVE at Wembley, 1986. (There is another poorly edited version of the song with David Bowie supposedly singing with Freddie...I don't recommend it because David never performed this song with Freddie on stage.) Welcome to the deep well of QUEEN! Enjoy the plunge...Queen fans will be listening! (NOTE: The band, Vanilla Ice, used the Under Pressure bass line without giving credit...the moral of that story is - don't steal from Queen or David Bowie unless you have VERY deep pockets. LOL) Queen wasn't considering "Another One Bites the Dust" as a single, but I've seen interviews with Freddie that Michael Jackson, who had seen them perform in Los Angelos and became good friends with the band, told them to release it as a single. It was just one of their many #1 hits. (Freddie did a number of tracks with Michael...but touring schedules in different parts of the world got in the way of them completing a track together...If they still exist, I would love to hear those tracks!)
