The song started off as a song called “Africa By Night” that Freddie wrote for the 1988 album, Barcelona!! He recorded it, but decided not to use it until the Innuendo album reworking the track. Freddie’s lifestyle was at odds with many traditional religious tenets, but in the song he points out a simple truth: we’re all God’s people. He was raised in the Zoroastrian faith which dates back to at least 1000 B.C.

BTW Paulie… Thank you so much for sharing your feelings/explaining why you haven’t reacted to Queen & Freddie for awhile… You’re not alone in having a hard time grappling with those feelings about what Freddie had to go through. (There was another reactor whose channel was quite good; they started out playing a LOT of Queen/Freddie videos… Then, as they realized what happened to Fred, they got sadder and SADDER w each video, until they stopped playing Queen videos PERMANENTLY.) I’ve read countless people express how Freddie has impacted them, and the DEEP SORROW at losing him so young in such a terrible way. (And I’ve cried buckets, myself.) BUT… when that other reactor stopped playing Queen/Freddie permanently just because Freddie’s story made them sad, I thought: Isn’t that actually just being “selfish”? (To just stop playing Freddie’s music in order to avoid thinking about his fate, I mean… To just make ourselves feel better by avoiding reminders of Freddie’s latter years.) There’s NO QUESTION that Freddie’s one of the STRONGEST, BRAVEST people I’m aware of… When faced with his mortality: INSTEAD of feeling sorry for himself… he used the time he had, to fulfill his lifelong dream of recording OPERA! And then, his DETERMINATION and love of music actually helped him live TWO YEARS LONGER than Dr.s expected! He recorded music until literally the last possible moment he physically could, because he LOVED his fans so much and wanted to leave them with the most of a musical legacy as he could. So THEN… if we decide to just not listen to the music he worked so HARD to give us, isn’t that really just being “ungrateful” in a way? I am an “overly sensitive” person myself; I still cry sometimes over what happened to Freddie. But… if we truly care, then there’s nothing more important than HONORING Freddie by making sure that new generations of music listeners know Freddie’s story, his music and his creative genius, isn’t it? As it turns out… Freddie’s last albums: Barcelona, Innuendo and Made In Heaven, are my FAVORITE albums.

At first I thought about it whether I not to continue making reactions for Queen but also if we stop somehow we are stopping his music and the new generations to listen and understand Queen's great music , like Freddie Mercury used to say "The Show Must Go On" and I'll be making more reactions for Queen thanks for bringing this subject 🔥🤟❤️

@@ThePaulieShow I can’t tell you how much I’ll be looking forward to that, Paulie, because I really love your channel!🫶 P.S. That’s the best wording I’ve heard: “If we stop, somehow we are stopping (Freddie’s) music”.🫶

Great reaction! It is nice to see you reacting to Queen again. Freddie did sing in the church choir whilst growing up, he also loved Aretha Franklin, overall he loved gospel music. Of course Freddie was also born in Africa. This was recorded around 1990, Innuendo is the last album Freddie recorded. But he also technically did some of his best singing on this album.
