Great video Bo! This mic on stage transforms the performance to a natural sound that is clear and in the mix properly

I know that dpa 2028 gots high EIN(equivalent input noise) of 22dbA. I'm wondering if this would cause any problem in my recording. Though I just heard little amouts of white noise in this vedio, I'm just worried if 22dbA is really low enough for studio recording. Also, even if I sort of studied about EIN, I couldn't really understand that what is the total effects cause EIN in condensor microphone. And why typically handheld condensor microphone has much higher EIN than normal small condensor microphone.

Hi, The 2028 is a handheld made specifically for the live stage. You are right that for a recording studio, the self-noise will be too high in some situations. The reason why most handheld condensers have higher noise levels is often because of the sensitivity being lowered because of the proximity to the sound source. For instance our d:facto™ has a sensitivity of 5 mV/Pa, where as our 4018A which has a very similar capsule has a sensitivity of 12 mV/Pa. As a general rule, a doubling of the sensitivity gives approximately 3 dB extra self-noise. In this case, it is almost spot on as the d:facto™ has a self-noise of 19dB and the 4018A has a selv noise of 16 dB. Does this answer your question?

Sorry, correction. A doubling of the sensitivity (energy) gives 3 dB lover self-noise.

@@DPAmicrophones Yes! I'm not a microphone engineer so it helps so much. No wonder that for condensor microphone, large diaphragm microphone with higher sensitivity tends to have lower self noise. I love the small profile of handheld microphone and its portability while i want a good sound quality. But i don't like white noise. This helps a lot with my buying strategy. Thanks!
