Those of us who played through these Halcyon days of gaming had it great. To go from an Atari 2600 with its big blocky pixels… It’s so amazingly hard to describe how awesome this game was back in the day

why games like these needs to be remastered from the ground up along with the doom classic they just don't make um like this anymore with the modern visuals. All they seem to do is make game like this but with low budget and still use the sprites thinking its retro classic style remake from the past. Games like Prodeus why couldn't that be done like a triple A game in visuals instead of a buggy crappy looking game that could of been great. Nooooooo thay had to make it look like something from the late 90's 2000's sprites days and then use it as a retro classic reimaged marketing for it

@@bioshock6935 I had a Packard bell with a 133 Pentium processor. Quake 2 was a slideshow. I had a friend who knew how to build computers back in the day and with practically no money to my name manage to throw something together for $200 and boy that was glorious to play when he was done

The only game that brought back that fun like the classic doom and quake games was l4d and 2 i have been bored ever since nothing out there for me to really get me hyped when i turn on my pc lol and don't start me on that crap game called back4blood even that couldn't live up to l4d

I remember the times of „Rise of the triads“, „Wolfenstein3D“ and „Doom“. „Wing Commander 3“ was an awakening. And than „Quake“. My friends and I were happy about every frame above 25 on 800x600 resolution.

yeah and i get the same type of feelings watching this video, there was something about this game i still cant explain, these industrial vibes, empty warehouses, water on the floor, dim lit corridors and weird buildings + some kind of loneliness and vulnerability caused by being completely alone on a hostile planet where cyborgs turn humans into cyborgs have u ever heard of a phenomenon called liminal spaces? quake 2 was maybe the first game that accidentally incorporated this aesthetic

@@brennoreveles5638 i played q2 when i was a kid so probably thats why i got these feelings, started being 7 and finished being 12, that was a real journey for me lol played q1 as an adult and didnt feel the game at all + i dont like the weird gothic style, q2 is much more cohesive do u like q1 more?

That game rocked my world big time back in december 1997. The most impressive FPS it most definitely was at the time of its release.

It's my favorite,and it deserves a remake.

This is how my brain remembers Quake 2 looking. I know the reality was much lower quality but for some reason my memories have higher definition.

ты че бредишь ))) вообще них**уя не изменилось, как были корявые текстуры 2000х годов такие и остались просто расширение стало выше . Это только идиот проверяет RTX в старых играх которые к этому вообще не предназначены и вообще не имеют такой функции так как в те года когда вышла игра использовались совсем другие технологии, а RTX надо проверять в играх примерно God of War, CyberPunk ну или вот недавно вышедшая игра которая нагружает видюху и в особенности на приломление света и тому подобного и называется она The Callisto Protocol.

I remember playing this game when i first brought my 2 voodoo fx cards to play this at the highest resolution you can at the time this was my first game i tested it on and i really enjoyed it had no stuttering didn't feel sluggish and smooth i was very impressed with the card and the game had no issues with it unlike i do now with today's gaming. But this is the very first time i have seen this game looking so good and with ray tracing on. Again i am impressed what a nice remaster oneday we might even get this from the ground up with todays visuals and better animation but keeping it to how the looks with improved reworked textures. Shame this still has those blurry textures'

@@qwanathomas735 For me It's the doom classic games i wasn't that impressed with there new doom 2016 and eternal because of how big of a change they went with it for me its nothing like what doom is its more like a unreal tournament quake arena halo type game with added in doom skins. why i want a classic doom remake from the ground up along with the N64 doom then add new maps around it without the wall climbing pole swinging double dash enemies with shields like a halo or a swat game has and the silly shotgun with a attachment with a grappling hook that's where it all lost what doom was for me. This new doom was made for the new generation of gamers

@@bioshock6935 I think Doom Eternal and The last of us part 2 are the best games ever created, although I did really feel the magic of the original Doom game, I just feel there was really something special about Quake 2. Original Doom games became a never ending continuation, as Quake 2 was an actual adventure and a game that you completed, for me Quake 2 had a massive edge over quake 1. I'm looking forward to the new Indiana Jones game. I love ID engine's they are the best. I don't know if you have played Callisto Protocol but it's very good. It uses unreal 4 with some elements of unreal 5, it's definitely next Gen.

@@qwanathomas735 I won't be playing any new games that comes out from now on unless i get a new pc it's just not worth it as it will struggle with the frame rate as i only play now in 4k and red dead 2 just prove to me how the 3080 isn't as good as i thought it would be going forward for next gen gaming like they said it was going to be they basally lie to you just to sale there cards. To be honest with you i am giving up with it all i can't afford it anymore it's too expensive and the performance you get from upgrading to the top end cards and cpu doesn't really justify the performance you get from a $50 game even the witcher 3 with its new upgrade and ray tracing is struggling with the 4090. I think is just getting ridiculously stupid just to play a game maxed out for what they expect us gamers to pay out for. To me now i have no more hobbies left as i have been a pc gamer since the late 90's my days of fun with it has been more stressful than fun over the last 3 years or more games just don't run or work anymore i am just fed up with it all and there crap hardly no 1st person shooters like the old days it's all 3rd person now gone are the simplistic games like classic doom

@@bioshock6935 I brought an Xbox Series S just so I could play Halo infinite, I didn't expect much from it but I was pleasantly surprised. It's an excellent little multimedia system for an excellent price I really recommend them. I stopped building PCs long ago, just got to expensive and hardware was outdated every 6 months. Series S displays in 4K has an SSD, and you can connect a mouse and keyboard. Up to you but you will not be disappointed.

You’d think they would have been able to add muzzle flashes to the guns by now 🤔

Oof. I rarely get motion sickness from games but this was a bit tough. Maybe it's the FOV coupled with the high FPS and no mouse input filtering. I looks awesome graphics wise though.

Quake and igi are my favorite,i try to upload more old games.

how did you managed to put music on that? I used the Yamagi patch with the vanilla version, but couldn't with the RTX edition.

+some high res textures models and a updated port of q2pro. Its free too provided you have the game .pak's. you can always run it in opengl mode for regular graphics. Plus its got a flare gun using grenade ammo and replaced the spinning globe thing further in campaign with the Nvidia eye.

Tldr no its not it came from a open source vulkan api pathRT mod which ran even worse than this so nvidia took it and did this for their own spin off on their new GPUs. Mostly to promote their latest cards. You can still run it in opengl regular too

Its a proof of concept, really. These games play great and it's a fun new coat of paint with dynamic lights and shadows but you can make the argument that the old renderer is more cohesive visually and I wouldn't argue with that.

Except for the water, it has the same graphics my brain remembers it :)) And I played it on my INTEL i740 graphics card (8MB) .. hated NVIDIA with VANTA :)) And those 16MB 3dfx Banshees. It looked so much cleaner on those systems. Oh yeah, using a mechanical mouse!! had to clean that ball to aim right.

Is this a whole different remaster just for RTX?

I'm playing this on PS1 right now. Cost me about 45 bucks on Amazon. Seems almost like a different game too. The swearing in the FMV is funny too. You didn't hear language like that in games really then.

Looks so good but the original is the best! There is nothing compares to the original quake!

Of course, it was a completely different matter, Quake 2 with smooth graphics. I liked the dynamic shadows too. But most of all I'm looking forward to Unreal 2 RTX 4K Remaster, if anyone could build it, it would be very cool.

@@mikeistp5736 Actually my youth predates video games by quite a bit. I was an adult for Space Invaders, I was in my mid 30's by the time Quake 2 was released. Quake 2 was the best of the franchise because after quake 2 , later incarnations that ID released, put the game on rails that didn't even try to be subtle. This version is the best quake 2 iteration because it adds advances in technolodgies to an already proven game. And as I said, it is the last in the franchise that provides at least an illusion of control over directional progress. Any other questions ? (and never assume people's age in a gaming discussion...a shitload of us are older than your grandparents, and to us you're just a dumb kid who knows dick-all about anything.) Merry Christmas

I didn't do anything ,its started playing automatically. by the way first you should install quake2 normal version then install quake2 rtx on top of it ,it will ask you to direct it to the normal version installation path. Hope that helps

Steam version is just a demo,first install quake2 none rtx then install quake2 rtx on top of it.i suggest downloading quake2 rtx from github,here's the link:github.com/NVIDIA/Q2RTX Dont forget to install the none rtx version first.
