There’s also an easter egg of sorts in the form of a secret level in Call of the Machine, which is named The Casali Effect after brothers Dario and Milo Casali who created The Plutonia Experiment for Final DOOM. Plutonia’s known for being extremely difficult so The Casali Effect puts you in a small space with a lot of powerful enemy types, similar to Plutonia’s most punishing map called Go 2 It.

I'm so happy this game made such a comeback in modern days and still keeps the style and humor of it's EE. Quake 2 is of my fave games ever.

@@samuelantoniocastillomeza5034 yeah. You don't have to worry with pre-game sh*t. You don't need to deal with in-game complicated systems. Just enter in a match, explore the map, collect the weapons and power-ups and blast everyone who stands in your way. I heard the team responsible for this remaster wants to bring Unreal back too. They already contacted Epic and made the request. Lets just wait some answer.

I had a bug that made the Torture Room easter egg a thousand times scarier. The music stopped playing when I got to the door to the torture room, so when I walked in and the dude was hanging there it was dead silence

The map improvements really nail this game's remaster. Think Quake 2 was the first FPS I ever played. I was probably 3 or 4. Boy did I fucking suck back then.

What a blast from the past. Q2 deathmatch and ctf were huge at lan parties back in the day. So many custom avatars you could download too, no one looked the same.

these avatars could also come with custom voice files so instead of a grunt from damage, you could have Eric Cartman saying an off color remark or swearing. Homer was also popular as a skin and voice library too. It was cool having Neo, Homer, Cartman and others all going at it.

You got me with those kittens on the thumbnail. I've had a good past with this game and lost all interest by now, but this made me smile

The Dopefish easter egg was used in so many shooters of thd 90s and even 2000s, but it's ironically never used in Doom(at least until Doom Eternal)

What Quake 2 Remastered did right is what Day of the Tentacle remastered also did right: It looks and feels as if the original /was/ this game. You only had to play it with lower quality settings because your hardware at the time was to weak for the quality you have now

Exiting the map where the second dopefish is you enter a series of tunnels. One of them have the image of a pipe door that will open when going near it. Inside another pipe image is there. Continue going forward and you will get to the map where the head is.

I think we can all agree that the dopefish in remastered Cooling Facility is way better than the original. The original version was in poor taste as it was a spiteful jab towards John Romero and Tom Hall for forming Ion Storm and id software back then did the dopefish so dirty.

It's just Quake 2 on Steam, and it contains both the original and the Remaster versions, and the expansion pack Call of the Machine is included in the Remaster version. If you already own Quake 2 then you get the Remaster update for free
