    Nice Install. I like the switch so you can choose to keep the charger on or turn it off. Not a fan of the charger mounts that stay on. Not good for your phone battery.

    Or even better, have it on AUTO and will only charge if the engine is actually running.

    Nice piece of kit! Did you have to loosen the tank or pull it off to get the wire to the charger in place? Planning to do this anytime soon

    Yes. The 2 front bolts removed, then the tank dust flips up about 5cm, enough to fit the cables neatly through there. Easy job

    There’s the USB-c cable on the handlebars plugged into my wireless charger head, which you can just see about 5cm, then it goes under the tank between the frame and the air box, then runs neatly under the seat on a side, and past the battery neatly and to the back under the rear cowl where I’ve mounted the main unit to have access to it if I need to switch it off or on, then from the main unit you have the 2 cables the black and the read which go to the battery terminals. I made mine very tidy and very happy with it. I might find a way to share a photo later on. I’m not home for a few days.

    May seem stupid me saying this but dose that mean that when the engine is off there is no power to the charger being drawn from the battery, So I can just leave my bike without worrying about the battery draining?

    You’re correct. If you have the blue switch to Auto then as soon as you switch the engine off, the quadlock unit stops feeding power to the wireless head that I use

    I’ve ordered it directly from Quadlock with free shipping. Wasn’t sure it hit the stores yet. Quite new product. Seems to work well with regular batteries but I’ve heard that if you have a lithium ion battery which sits at 13.5v when the bike is not running, then the smarts of the adaptor are useless as it won’t turn the charger off until I’d drops below.a certain threshold maybe under 13V? Unsure but this is what some other guy says in another Dodson here somewhere. Works great with my non-li-ion battery.

    Can a USB splitter be ran off this? I like the auto option without having to hit a button and trying to avoid a different SAE to USB or having to add a second one. Needing to power the wireless charger but want to run 5V3A off the other USB for continuous camera power. Thanks and awesome job!

    Thanks. Good point. I’d say it’s possible if you replace the fuse as it’s a 3A fuse and if you charge 2 devices at the same time, you probably end up with more than 3A. But I’d address this question directly to Quadlock just in case there’s something inside their main unit that prevents the extra power to pass through!?. Please let me know what they say as it’s indeed a useful scenario if I get something else mounted on my bike that needs power.     @@aussiegeekrider Sounds like the cables are only rated for 3 amps. Anything higher would not prevent the adapter from seeing too much power and potentially fry the actual cables. Anything over 3 amp fuse will void the warranty of the adapter. I am not an electrician but 5.3 amp current is commonly used with AWG 16 I thought. That wire can handle 10 amps. 🤔

    @@TheBrandonAF that kinda sucks. The SAE adapters seem to be capable for up to 10A generally looking at other sites, but the cable depends on what they used.. Unless you set it up and plug in the one you need to use one at a time. Record when you do and charge your phone in between if it works. One with a button to switch between the 2, something like this one, but unsure if it will work for you and most likely not waterproof.     100% yes. When riding very often I use GPS, and the phone being out in the open the brightness is almost always at max when I ride during the day since it’s very bright and the charger produces more power than what the phone uses even when you have it on full brightness and gps and music etc. I’m always getting back home from any size trip with the phone battery on 100% charge

    Great info thanks! I just got mine installed this morning using the same bits of kit as you, I’ll have a double check tomorrow but when I turn my bike off, the blue power light seems to stay on. And I can still charge it. Do you have any ideas why this is happening?

    I get that sometime when the bike battery is absolutely full. But if I put my phone for charging, within less than 1 minute, the light turns off on the charger as it seem to be enough to bring down the voltage a tiny bit to fall just under the threshold.

    @Dan Mihai that’s correct, I’ve heard the same thing. I don’t own a lithium battery but I’ve heard they hold a higher voltage compared to regular batteries.

    I just installed this on my 2022 cbr500 and the light on the charger never switches off.. not sure if I have a faulty smart adapter or not.

    I saw someone say that if you have a lithium ion battery it will not turn off as the battery sits at a higher voltage when the bike is off as opposed to the regular bike batteries. Try a voltmeter directly on the battery when the bike is turned off and see what voltage your battery gives you when in standby and see in the manual under what voltage it should turn off and if it doesn’t match up the data then maybe get in touch with QL as they might need to replace it as it defeats the purpose of a smart switch. Make sure you also test with the phone on the charger and actively charging when you turn the bike off and see if it stops charging once you turn the bike off, just in case you’re just above the line with the voltage enough for it to not turn off… my guess here…

    Great install ! I wan't to buy one but i also have a SAE cable plugged on my battery to connect warming gloves. Do you think i can use both at the same time by connecting an Y Sae Cable ? I think i also have to upgrade the fuse, an idea of the power of the fuse ? Thanks

    Thanks. There was another comment here from someone else wanting to do something similar by connecting 2 devices to be controlled by the smart switch via a splitter like your Y one you mentioned and I’ve suggested to contact Quadlock as I think 2A was the fuse but Quadlock replied that the cable is only rated for one device something along these lines. So not sure what to advise, surely you could double the fuse in Amps that it comes with, and add another 2A on each leg of the Y splitter for each device. I’m only guessing this will work though. But if the cable can’t handle both devices then … fuses discussion is pointless less . Sorry bud, not sure I can help more here..

    Before the Quadlock should be fine in my opinion. Just get a decent one, not that it’s a lot of power going through it..fuse it up and you should be fine. I’d do that on my bike.

    2 reasons. 1- mine is dead I’ve found out later, still don’t have one as I could find second hand ones from the UK with shipping to Australia for like $100. A bit too much. 2. The USB post still provides power if the ignition is ON even if the engine is not running, when the Quadlock unit only comes to life once the engine is running and the voltage rises over 14.5V or something like that. It was pretty cheap $50 wanted to try it out and worked out ok especially that my USB port that came with the bike is dead . It’s not a must have device. Feel free to plug it directly into the existing port.

    It can’t drain the battery. Once the voltage goes below 12.5v it turns itself off. While you ride the voltage sits at about 14+V . Here’s from Quadlock’s website “Use Auto function to keep the device off until input voltage rises above 13.5V and turn off when input voltage drops below 12.5V”. Hope this helps.

    Hi Freddie Can’t see but have you got fuse protection on the quad lock at the battery? Also is it consuming power all the time because it’s connected straight to the battery? If so itl flatten your battery 🔋 Regards phil

    Hi Freddie, it has a 3A fuse on the red cable that goes to the battery. See from second 18 to 25 in the video at the beginning, that red cord is the power for it and you see a black enclosure on the line, the fuse is inside that. The unit itself is a smart charger, and it has a blue switch with 3 positions: ON, OFF, AUTO. 1. When on OFF position, it doesn’t provide any power to the USB outlet. 2. When on ON position, it provides power all the time like a regular USB cable adapter that is connected directly to the battery. (Here if you have something plugged into the USB charger, it will drain your battery even when your bike is turned off.) 3. When in AUTO mode, which is the mode I use, is where the smarts of the charger comes in. It actually ONLY provide power IF the power from the battery rises above 13.5V which is generally when you start your bike or have a very very charged battery. If the battery voltage drops below 12.5V generally when you turn your bike off, it also stops the power going to the USB port, so now even if you left something plugged into the USB it won’t have power to run or drain your battery. This is what’s special about this charger. Hope this info helps.

    Are you able to FAST wireless charge using the stock USB socket on the bike? Or only the standard wireless speed? How does the QL one compare regarding this? Thanks

    iPhones don’t really fast charge. Not like Android phones over USB-c anyways. From iPhone 15 now should be a different story since they moved to USB-C. The QL unit is capable of fast charging the manual says. I don’t find a difference tbh, since my phone is always fully charged when I get home even when I use GPS and directions, music etc. No lack of power. But I didn’t measure it.

    ST Triple rs has a usb charger kit. It’s cheaper than the quad lock.

    Got one under the tail cowl, I used it until now, but the one from QL only puts power out when the engine is actually running. Testing it out to see what other applications might come in handy using this.

    Hey just a heads up. The triumph street triple has a usb point under the passenger seat that does exactly what the quad lock does and it’s factory. You really didn’t need that.

    I’ve used that port before this, but if the engine is not running but the key is turned to ON, it still provides power to the port, and if the phone is on the charger, it drains the battery, unlike this device which turns it off if the engine is not actually spinning/running. That’s the difference between the 2.

    Definitely not a Must Have device, you could always remove your phone from charging or press the button behind the wireless charger to turn it off, but it’s more of a convenience device.

    Yeah, it’s all about how charged the bike battery is. When my bine is on trickle charge the light never turns off. But as soon as I turn the key to ON and the bine starts drawing some current from the battery for the lights, fuel pump etc , the light goes off. Then, when I start riding the light come back on as expected and once I get to the destination, and turn the bike off the light goes off. My light only comes ON on its own without the engine running when on charge/trickle charge.

    @@VirtuosoX1 a trickle charger is a battery charger designed to keep your battery topped up and from time to time discharges your battery slightly then recharges it, all on its own. Designed to keep your battery charged and healthy, especially when you don’t ride for a while. It doesn’t push much current and slowly will top it up and maintain it there so it’s ready to ride when you’re ready. Quite popular here in Australia. Most of my mates own one.

    u do know there a on and off switch on the wireless charger to turn if on and off. which will stop the battery from being drained when the bike is off unless you don't wanna deal with switching something on and off then yea waste the extra 30$

    it is just a convenience device indeed. We can all do without it but same goes for many accessories out there. I don't mind it. I just know that will never suck power off the battery since the accessories plugged into this only work when the engine is actually running. When the built in USB still provides power if the key is on ON position but the engine not running. I like the idea but yes not critical to have if you're happy to unplug or switch things off yourself.
