If you have the charging device and want a clean look I would. Other wise you can attach it anyway so it doesn't dangle around. Run the wires right down the middle then follow the other wires up the bars, if they are external.

Do we need the usb thingy that u plugged on the battery to charge the phone? Or can just recharge the chargeable mount

The USB device allows the phone to charge while on the mount

My bars are too thick for the clamp what should I do

Depends on what size your bars are

Will it for 1.5 thick bars

I've gotten by with a pocket for years, just got this because i wanted nav on the softail, probably still going in my pocket most days
