The QNAP TS-364 NAS Drive Written Review -nascompares.com/2021/12/08/qn...
QNAP TS-364 NAS Video Review FULL - • QNAP TS-364 NAS Review...
QNAP are now very much in the process of slowly rolling out their new Prosumer and SMB series for 2022, but when it comes to the unit that they are slowly releasing, you can definitely see that they are being a great deal smarter (tactically) than previous generations. Alongside the release of the NVMe focused TBS-464 back in late October, the next unit in this series to arrive is the incredibly unique and unusual QNAP TS-364 NAS Drive. Today I want to review this rather different NA system and ultimately answer three main questions, 1) Is this a suitable alternative to a 2/4-Bay? 2) Is this TOO niche, even for a subject that is already as niche as NAS? And 3) Ultimately does it deserve your data? This 3x Hard drive and 2x NVMe SSD system (that 2nd storage detail is always way, way too overlooked) is formed in a similar shape to the previous 3-Bay systems before it but also arrives with the latest choices in internal/external hardware architecture that we have grown to expect in 2021/2022 from QNAP. With some users who look at 2-Bay solutions and the 50% storage loss of RAID 1 as a dealbreaker, whilst still looking at 4-Bay systems as capacity and price based overkill, is a 3-Bay NAS drive such as the TS-364 from QNAP what you have been searching for all this time? Let’s review the QNAP TS-364 and decide if this system is just right OR just a little too niche? Let’s go.

    So, in light of QNAP targeting the Prosumer market with this 3-bay (which suites me down to the ground for size) do you think Synology may follow in the same vane during 2022 to keep market share ?? Pity they don'y have good designers for the exteriors of their units, white is so off putting and is pretty much a dirt/fingerprint magnet. Love the idea but their implementation as to accessibility leaves a lot to be desired, if Synology took the DS420+ and made it a 320+ could be the goods.

    One issue I have with my 332X does not support RAID conversion. You have to backup and restore. I ended up getting another 443X and three more 6Tb drives then setting that one with RAID and copying everything from the first NAS over. I then had to reinstall and reconfigure the Apps as well. Finally. I set the first NAS up as a mirrored copy. A fifteen-hundred-dollar solution to the issue! Finding external 6Tb drives is impossible right now.

    I was thinking of starting with this and 2 drives with RAID 1. Would I see a huge improvement with a RAID5 when it comes to speed performance? would using the nvme drives for cache help improve a RAID1? I think that I'd end up with a RAID 5 and 3 drives at some point, but I'm not sure if I'd need to start with that.

    I've switched from an old DS215j to the TS-364 because it was on sale for 390£ and I'm quite happy. I'd say 2x M.2 and 3x 3.5 inch bays are the perfect combination. My only concern is that the NAS feels a bit cheap, and likes to resonate with my Enterprise drives which is not ideal. Oh and the M.2 slots are NVMe ONLY, not SATA, which is unfortunate.

    I bought this NAS a week ago and I am returning the unit. When using HBS (to copy SSD backups of MacBooks) I get NAS out of memory errors and the system eventually crashes. Or just doing background tasks for QuMagie. I give up. I ordered a Synology DS-920+.

    A Nightmare Before Christmas indeed. Great video as always. Can an M.2 drive be used as primary storage for the OS and apps so that, for example, you can use all-surveillance HDDs and they would be doing little to no read at all during normal operation?

    @@QNAPUK I guess that's why my next NAS would also be a QNAP (rather than Synology where it's only for caching - I trust both brands, but this is an extra bit of flexibility I plan to use. Oh, and 2.5GbE). I'd like to see the TS-464, though :)

    I'm confused why one would buy a cheaper model like this if you were going to spend money buying M2 upgrades, etc...what exactly do they offer you with only 2.5GBe? Wouldn't 3 mechanical hard drives in RAID saturate that bandwidth without assistance? Am I missing something?

    I will never buy another QNAP NAS after my first and last one failed and thew way i was treated when looking for support - there are so many better less hyped options, besides that this guy is owned by QNAP and is nothing more than a puppet....

  • @horizonbrave2901
    @horizonbrave29012 жыл бұрын

    we know QNAP devices shouldn't be use for not offering any minimum decent level of security (hard coded credentials, apps running as root). I know you are sponsored by QNAP, but if you care about your subscribers you should stop reviewing and promoting QNAP devices. Doesn't how good their hardware look and cost it's a software drama (not just security but also plenty of usability bugs). We need more honest reviews than don't obmit important stuff like the security track records of this joke company.

  • @nascompares

    @nascompares

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your thoughts man. Just to be clear though, I am not sponsored by QNAP and though they send these units from time to time, I am completely independent. Regarding security, if I removed brands from this channel based on security flaws, vulnerabilities, hacks, malware and times that data was lost - I WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE ALL OF THEM! Syno hacks, seagate 1.5TB fails, WD SMR, Drobo support, Google outrages, OneDrive Password exposure, DropBox open sync vulnerabilities....honestly, I cannot think of a single brand that hasn't dropped the ball... Yes, QNAP have been the flavour of the month on this topic, but the wheel will spin again and others will come, they come round again and so on and so forth. Remember, brands can ONLY stay 1 step ahead from those looking to break the code. Imagine if started EVERY review, all brands and listed the security flaws/blips in the last 10yrs? I'd never actually GET to the product. Even a glimpse here, on the NC vulnerability tracker, will show you just a handful of brands - nascompares.com/security-advisories/ In short, I do get that you have an opinion of this brand and it's justified/backed up. But don't think I'm not keeping these things in mind.
