Romesh has been on a few shows , his stern demeanour is just part of the act . ' Tree Wizard ' on Taskmaster is well worth a watch . He's also had his own shows with his mum and family taking part including a comedy orientated Judge Romesh - in the style of a well known US. show.

Romesh is rarely the one to bring up his veganism, it`s usually other comics taking the opportunity to take pot shots at him for it. Also vegans quite often won`t use other products or clothes that are based on animal products, so it`s not all about food.

Cornish Pasty Recipe Certainly! Here's an Americanized version of the traditional Cornish pasty recipe with ingredients more commonly found in U.S. grocery stores: Ingredients: For the Pastry: 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup shortening or unsalted butter, chilled and diced 1 teaspoon salt 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water For the Filling: 1 pound beef skirt steak or chuck steak, chopped into small cubes 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and diced 1 small turnip or rutabaga (optional), peeled and diced 1 large onion, finely chopped Salt and pepper to taste A pinch of dried thyme or mixed herbs (optional) Instructions: Make the Pastry: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the chilled shortening or butter. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, rub the fat into the flour until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring until the dough comes together. You may not need all the water. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Prepare the Filling: In another large bowl, mix together the chopped beef, potatoes, turnip/rutabaga (if using), and onion. Season generously with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Assemble the Pasties: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out rounds using a plate or bowl as a guide (about 6-8 inches in diameter). Spoon an equal amount of filling onto one half of each pastry round. Fold the pastry over to cover the filling and crimp the edges together to seal, making a D-shaped pasty. Make a small slit on top of each pasty to let steam escape. Bake the Pasties: Place the pasties on a lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until the pasties are golden brown and the filling is cooked through. Serving: Allow the pasties to cool for a few minutes before serving as the filling will be very hot. Pasties can be eaten hot or cold and are traditionally a meal in themselves. Enjoy your homemade American Cornish pasty!

As a Cornishman who bakes loads of pasties (I live in Birmingham, so I can't call them Cornish), a good tip is to use bread flour instead of all purpose; it makes the pastry elastic allowing you to easily stretch it over the filling and gives it the strength needed to create a good tight crimp without the pastry breaking. Otherwise, that recipe is bang on the nail.

Romesh is awesome, really well loved in the UK and does some brilliant stand up. He takes the piss out of veganism but is really proud and outspoken about it. Other British comedians that take animal rights seriously and are vegan are Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand, Lee Mack, Sara Pascoe, Simon Amstel and Jon Richardson .. and loads more are vegetarian - John Bishop has been veggie for 30 years and has fronted loads of campaigns.

The first known pasty recipe is from the 1500s, which outdates the first known empanada recipe(1700s) by around 200yrs. Spanish traders buying tin from cornish tin miners probably tried them and took the idea back to Spain with them. Cornish migrants to the Caribbean took pasties with them which eventually led to the Jamaican Patty when some Caribbean spices were added into their pasty recipes.

The origin is a bit earlier, the pasty has been a documented part of the British diet since the 13th Century, at this time being devoured by the rich upper classes and royalty. The fillings were varied and rich; venison, beef, lamb and seafood like eels, flavoured with rich gravies and fruits. It wasn’t until the 17th and 18th centuries that the pasty was adopted by miners and farm workers in Cornwall as a means for providing themselves with easy, tasty and sustaining meals while they worked.@@obijon7441

Sandi Toksvig is an old woman (or senior as an American would say) who previously presented (or hosted as an American would say) [The Great British] Bake Off (or The Great British Baking Show as an American would say). This episode of QI was recorded after she had left her duties on the aforementioned programme (or show as an American would say). The humour (or humor as an American would say) stems from the implication that she has no interest in the baking broadcast now that she is no longer involved in it. I was wrong, it was even more boring than I remembered. I even chose an episode filmed in Butlins about clowns. How can they make that boring? They did though. Re Romesh on WILTY and the other WILTYers not seeming to “like” him - that IS the joke! Romesh is well loved by lots of us because he appears gruff and well peed off and that’s part of his act. The other comedians will tease him sarcastically and make those off the cuff comments BECAUSE they like him - it’s the British way - like with your own friends, you can insult and tease them mercilessly because they are your mates and it’s just what we do - the “rudeness” is an indication of how much you are liked! However, if a TV celeb is pleasantly polite to another celeb, with a charming smile and friendly approach, you can bet one doesn’t like the other very much, if at all! 😂. Insulting your celeb friend is an art form! 😁

The reason the Cornish pasties have those thick crusty edges is as they said, that's where the miners would hold it from. Because their hands were so dirty, they would use the handle to eat the pasty and then throw away the dirty crust. Of course nowadays we eat the crust too.

There have been sandwich shops forever, but they were made to order. Pre packaged sandwiches likely have something to do with hygiene regulations. As they're wrapped they can be sold anywhere with a chiller cabinet. The 80's was also when trading hour regulations were relaxed & supermarkets really started to encroach on high street specialists like butchers, bakers, greengrocers.

You can get Cornish pasties in southern Mexico. During the 1800s Cornish miners were hired to come to Mexico to mine for tin. They brought their families and their customs, including eating Cornish pasties down the mines. The Mexican people there learnt how to make pasties.. They still make them to this day, and they are very popular. You can find a couple of videos on YT about it.

In Wales a cheese was made for coal miners, a high salt one day cheese, to replace lost sweat when working down the mines, called Caerphilly cheese.

The art of constructing a sandwich is the knowledge of layers. Never have something wet on the outside making your bread soggy, put something isolatory between layers and on the outside to keep it fresh. The selection of contents is as important as the ordering of it's application. It's not a sandwich if you construct it onsite, it's a picnic...

My thoughts in 'veganism' is it's a choice, others have legitimate dietary reasons they can't eat certain foods, vegans have no such reasons, so ehen they say oh "I can't eat that" I correct them and say "No you can, but you choose not to". Now I don't hate vegans, but it's a lifestyle choice not a legit diet.
