Hi everyone!
It's been a while since my latest video.
I heard about this movie while visiting Japan, and by the time I remembered I had no more occasions to search for it in the video stores.
Fortunately it was still possible to find the DVD online.
First going first, I don't know how I should feel about this absolutely fictional novelization about the true story of the Italian submarine Comandante Cappellini, that served for a brief time under the Imperial Navy in late 1945 as the I-503.
The few good points I can find are the Italian origin of most of the actors, a not too stereotyped representation of Italians and Italian culture and a good number of funny moments that made me laugh. Not to mention that it makes use of one of the most beautiful war songs of that period, that even today is the official march of the Italian submariners.
The bad point, well... it's still a Japanese movie made for Japanese audience, and this brings the usual problems of these kind of productions.
If you want to watch it, just take it for what it is: an unpretentious story.

The song of the Italian submariner is an old one they still sing to this day, its a song that even i love as a American Submariner. No matter what nation, we submarine crews are like familiy, and i actually hum this tune while im working onboard, from a modern day sailor to the old Diesel submariners of the day, we salute you, you were the real shit. Also, my favorite exert from the song in English: "We go to the vast sea, laughing in the face of death and fate, We strike and bury, every enemy encountered on the way. This is how the sailor lives, he doesn't care about the enemy and adversity, cause he knows he will win!" 0:22 this part of the song here. Edit: I can't find this movie anywhere online, please send me the link or something where i can buy this movie. Edit #2: Found it, its under the name of Sensuikan Cappellini-go no Boken on IDMb, but i cannot find anywhere to watch it, not even a DVD, Please help CJ.

It just debuted in cinemas, but you should also look, as soon it will be available for the Movie Comandante, about Salvatore Todaro. "Io il ferro nemico lo affondo, ma l'uomo lo salvo."

I'm a fan of Miyamoto Musashi.
This movie shows Italian submarines operating in the Pacific during WWII which they did. A little known story that should be told.
