If you were wondering why there was applause when Stephen put on the moustache and went ‘baaaahhh’, it was because he was momentarily reviving a character he played in a series called Blackadder back in the 80s.

You've got to watch "Blackadder goes forth" to catch the obvious cultural reference there. Stephen Fry played Lord General Melchett. The moustache and tag line had the audience clapping because it was a callback to his role.

We don't "add the 'U'", you've removed it. There's a reason it's called "English" afterall ;) Some American changes make sense but I will defend "ou" over just "o" in most cases. Take 'colour' for example, the 'U', tells you the pronunciation is "err" rather than "orr". You say "cull-err", not "cull-orr"

I think it was Noah Webster of dictionary fame who removed the u from colour and favour etc. He wanted to clean up English spelling a bit. Benjamin Franklin was also a big proponent of spelling reform if I remember right 😁 I feel the same way about moustaches - I respect people who like them but I just can't get behind it myself. That said, Magnum PI's moustache is pretty good 😂

I have inherited a moustache cup and saucer via a great grandfather. They were popular in Victorian times. I is made of fine china and is crafted with a semi circular ‘ledge’ on one side, with a semi circular gap in the middle. The ledge keeps the moustaches from touching the tea, while the tea can be drunk via the gap. Quite interesting, to persons who have never seen one and a piece of history I suppose, being probably at least 150 years old.

As everyone has mentioned Stephen was in Black Adder with Rowan Atkinson , Hugh Lawrie and many other big names . I'm surprised how many Americans only know him from Mr Bean and it's a series well worth a look . I believe Poirot used to wax his moustache so maybe the cover was to preserve the shape and keep it out of his mouth . The sound is a lot better but still not quite right .

Guys, I’ve said it before, but you need to watch the sitcom Peep Show starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Yes, there’s a lot of swearing in it (which you’d have to keep in because it would dilute the show a lot if you didn’t), but it’s cringe inducing humour that only the British can do, and I think you’ll love it!

Peep show and the Inbetweeners are definitely not the vibe of this channel or this couple. (I’m throwing in the Inbetweeners because they’re essentially the same show and often get requested together) I’d be embarrassed to watch them watch either. And I enjoyed both shows….when I was 18-25 years old. And 25 seemed too old.
