QGIS elevation profile/cross section tool -- a deep dive!

Ғылым және технология

QGIS 3.26 is introducing a mountainload of new functionality for handling elevation and height data in your projects! In this stream I'll be exploring all these new features in depth, and looking at how you can use QGIS to analyse height data from vector, DEMS, point clouds and mesh sources.
Apologies for the poor stream quality and the dropouts! Unfortunately some of the "thank yous" at the end were also cut off due to a disconnect, but credit here belongs to:
- Lutra Consulting, for organising the crowdfunding campaign which made this possible (www.lutraconsulting.co.uk/cro... for details)
- North Road Consulting (north-road.com/) who implemented the profile tool support for QGIS
- Hobu (hobu.co/), responsible for the underlying point cloud handling improvements and support for cloud optimised point clouds.
- All the backers of the "Enhancing elevation data and point clouds in QGIS" crowdfunding campaign!

Thank you for the amazing session. Awesome stuff. Just what I was looking for, been trying to explore point cloud data from photogrammetry in QGIS.

37:10 Thanks for mentioning this! I think this would be nice thing to use when you have a route and also want to know the elevation changes along this route. I did a some kind of UAV tracker including video player widget and polyline layer. Implemented a rubberband tracking point that goes simultaneously with video slider position. The live elevation profile feature is very, very cool stuff and I think it's 'engine' can also be used in various tasks! Thank you for making it!

Nice addition to QGIS, is there an option to export it in svg format in the near future?

In terms of temporal use of the elevation charts - one could create several temporal layers and create several charts that are then exported and used to create an animation in GIMP or Blender.

We have 3.30 qgis version now with Elevation Profile in Print Layout. But how I can choose a DEM and a line layer from the qgis main window to obtain the Elevation Profile in Print Layout?

Fantastic work Nyall. Is it possible to control the vertical scale. For instance 1:1 scale as an override.

@@NyallDawson is it possible to save output in dxf format, because in the documentation its shown that output can be saved as dxf file, but I haven't found any button.. docs.qgis.org/3.34/en/docs/user_manual/map_views/elevation_profile.html
