QCAD Tutorial Import & Trace an Image Step by Step
QCAD Tutorial Import & Trace an Image Step by Step
QCAD is an easy to use and very affordable (free version, full professional version just $40) 2D Computer Aided design program that can be used to draw a set of RC model airplane plans.
In this video I demonstrate how to import an image into QCAD and trace over it to start an outline for an RC airplane plan. In this case I use a 3 view of the Beechcraft Stagger Wing biplane. The image is imported into QCAD, sized to a 30" wingspan and traced over to start the outline for a full set of plans.
The important and easy to use Divide and Break Out Segment tools show how to trim the tracing for a final cleaned up outline.
In the video I also demonstrate QCAD mirror and rotate commands, as well as the use of layers. All are needed techniques to access this powerful 2D CAD program.

Great! Tim
Excellent, thank you. Great timing for this one. I just started experimenting with QCAD. I like how it easily allows you to print larger blueprints spread out over multiple smaller pages, while providing you alignment points to piece them together. This should come in handy for me. I also want to experiment with importing from / exporting to Blender, etc.

@@TimMcKay56 Beechcraft people. I've owned two Bonanzas and i'm 83 years old. In my period of flying Beech was supreme.
Please help me with flashing lines when I try to draw on image like on the video. It looks like lines on other layer are visible when I point them. Any idea why?

@@TimMcKay56 Tim I did it again and got it right. 😀 I guess my High School teaching experience of teaching Art for 20+ years finally gave me the experience of try try again. Your Tutorials are Outstanding. Sometime the student had to work a little harder. 😴 Thanks Don East " Don's Old Garage"
