QB Change! Mac Jones First Game... | Madden 24 Saints Franchise (Year 5) - Ep.84

Ойындар

It's Year 4 of the Madden 24 Saints Franchise. After two tough seasons forcing us into a rebuild, we're hoping to emerge as a playoff contender once again. With a new Quarterback and exciting offensive additions, could the pieces be in place for the Saints to compete for the division title?
My Franchise on Madden 24 begins with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints offer a unique challenge compared to any other team looking at their future cap space problems and aging roster. The Saints are not a bad team in 2023 at all. But their future could not be anymore problematic as cap restraints will cause them to move on from players, including some of their aging veterans they still rely on.
I aim for a more sim feel to my Franchises. I play on All Madden sliders that promote a more realistic play style. I have developed my own XP sliders to create a more authentic feel to Franchise in terms of developing young players and replacing regressing veterans.
This will be my biggest Madden 24 series, and I'm excited to get the rebuild underway.

If I was Mayweather, I would be beyond fuming. I balled out in the last 4 games of Yr 3 and I get no chance to start any games the season after because the Coach/GM wanted to get a raw rookie QB who needed some “seasoning” before he started a single game. The Rookie plays like expected and yet I practically get no real chance in YR4. Now it’s YR5 and the Rookie QB still sucks so he gets benched and instead of giving me one start to actually do something, the Coach/GM trades for draft bust Mac Jones. Yeah this is beyond ridiculous.

@@WallsTCAP Yes, because winning by 7 against a team that almost Hail Mary’d their way to overtime is a ringing endorsement for this now 5-4 team that is perpetually mediocre or below .500, can’t win in the post season, if they even make it there, overdraft players that everyone is telling him do not draft, and then starts making moves like he’s a coach on the hot seat about to get fired by benching a young qb, love him or hate him, that showed potential last season, and replace him by trading multiple draft picks and players to get back an aging, mediocre guard and a near 30 year old Mac Jones from the Patriots, a team notorious for trading away players past their prime and who fail. Hes fired coaches in the past when doing this series. It was more a rename and reskin the coach since his coach can’t be fired, but still. This Saints team has been brutal for 5 seasons and Madden 25 comes out in 2 months. Just want the team to win, but they’re not gonna do that when they are making moves like the Jets or Browns do in real life when their coach is on the hot seat, expected to do something, and the fail miserably.

Love the series Cane, as always. Thank you for all you do. Truly the best KZreadr out there! As a journalism major your story telling is so immersive and well written. Even with the losses throughout the series, it has been extremely entertaining. Some game notes for me: - Run game desperately needs more explosive plays, White & Skelton are your answers. Maybe more bubbles/outside screens etc for Pierman? - Otton desperately needs to stay in the offense, even when Blackwell comes back. His contribution has been crucial both in the run & pass game! - Deep passes are just kind of cooked in Madden 24, unless you get that beat off the line and the single high safety is going to the opposite hash. - Defensively, I'm loving it. Only thing I'd argue is more Juan Beard, giving Sweat & Houston more time to keep fresh.

Yes, with Jones 94 rating (with Morale) on SA, and high 80s on the other 2 is a big upgrade over Westbrook. But the 86 throw power means limited to short and medium throws. It will be easy to undercut deep throws unless the WR is behind the defender.

I think Jones having the higher short accuracy makes him better for us, its great being able to make plays 15, 20, 25 yards downfield, but being able to make consistent 8 yard throws is why the offense keeps devolving into a problem, its why I was on the mayweather train, he had better short accuracy than westbrook did coming out of the draft.

Cane I love watching your stuff, been here for 10 years since the jags franchise and I'll definitely never ever quit because you're just the best KZreadr there is, but those two INTs were the most satisfying thing about this video by far even tho they weren't really Jones's fault lol At the risk of being laughed at, I'm willing to die on the Westbrook Hill, he could be really great and put up ridiculous 400 yard games with his raw arm talent, a little more dev, this unbelievable weaponry and all that speed but Cane seems to not know that developing a raw QB is just not gonna happen very quickly in these run heavy offenses that don't allow too much passing yardage. This team is imo one off-season away from being Superbowl bound so why don't you give Westbrook every snap possible to get more XP and put the following upgrades into field general? Instead waste picks that you could have used for guards in the next draft and put them into a more than mediocre QB that's not gonna get you anywhere when you're down two scores... I just don't think when it counts in the playoffs, QBs like mahomes or Josh Allen aren't gonna let you run away with a two score lead in the third quarter Also: did the bills quit on Josh Allen when he had 48.3% completion pct or whatever it was? Based on a sample size of one game, I officially pronounce Mac Jones is the answer at QB and will lead this team to a Super Bowl win. Just look at the way he heroically dragged the rest of the team kicking and screaming to victory even with no running game and no Blackwell. His leadership even inspired the D to play better.

Adding to the comment about coach firing. I will start a new franchise with coach firing turned off. But if i cant get the team to a better position after year 2 i will turn it on so that i can be fired if we still dont improve. That way you arent just getting tossed after 1 bad season.

So wait... you mean to tell me if we simplify the offense, and take easy throws... The QB can succeed? It's almost like Westbrook was given a raw deal, and Mayweather and even raw-er deal with a giant offense that they couldn't succeed in. I saw maybe 3 throws that Jones hit on that Westbrook might have not. I was calling for Westbrook to take short, easy completions week 1, but I guess we're here now.

I’m sorry Cane but there’s no way you made this whole Mac Jones move and starting him after a decent game from Westbrook for any other reason than keeping up interest in the series, which I understand but it goes against the whole realistic style of this franchise and the previous ones. This is a move I expect from Bengal (no shade to him, but usually he makes moves like this) I think it’s totally unrealistic that a franchise would bench a 2nd year early first round pick, especially that he’s shown potential and flashes

It's a good thing the AI sucks and did't have the Cowboys just run to the left every play, otherwise my man Mac Jones would've been forced to win a 45-42 shootout.

Not a bad game by Mac definitely needs some improvements but nowhere close to the misses of Blake Westbrook it was much needed win and the defense played tough for 4 quarters GO SAINTS

  • @Swagg23Kid

Mac Jones excelled with an excellent Offensive OC (And yes that makes sense if you're a patriots fan), to the point where I think just being efficient would be a massive help to this saints team. Westbrook might have a great year 3 but right now isn't accurate enough to lead this team to the playoffs like we need. A year of training might do him well, or might mean we need to trade him, but Mac in this game baring the 2 (Really 3) mistakes was not only efficient but able to use the weapons available. Might mean he plays the same role Brock Purdy plays for SF, but this could be the push we need to get to the playoffs. If not then yeah it might be time for this coaching staff to be fired. Too many misteps and wayyyy too many problems for 5 years to be dealing with the same stuff. Playoffs or bust.

Just gonna say. Mac Jones was def better accuracy wise. But neither him or Westbrook are the answer at QB. I feel one or the other will be moved in the offseason and another QB will be drafted.

EXCLUSIVE TO THE PICAYUNE-COURIER Mac Jones Makes Saint Debut Saints fans experienced their first view of Mac Jones in the gold and black in a defensive battle against "America's Team." Although the sample size for Jones is small, there were some definite improvements over his predecessor as New Orleans' primary signal caller. Jones put up numbers that, in some respects, left Westbrook's performance in the dust. While going 22 for 32 is not about to set DC knees to start trembling at the very thought of facing Jones and the Saints, the 68% completion rate was a full 25% better than Westbrook's season to date managed to eke out. (Westbrook's completion rate = 54%. The difference is Jones +14, 14 is just over 25% of 54.) The improved rate of completion had the effect of improving the yards per attempt from Westbrook's 6.4 to Jones's 8.6, an improvement of more than one third. But then, there are the interceptions. Jones managed to double Westbrook's rate of INTs per Attempted Pass. Westbrook has been criticized for throwing 8 INTs among his 253 pass attempts. That works out to just over 3% of his throws winding up in the hands of someone wearing the wrong colored jersey. The Jones performance yielded 2 INTs from 32 attempts, more than 6% of his passes were picked off. As previously mentioned, the sample size for Jones is small and small numbers could carry disproportionate weight. Unsurprisingly, the Saints' Head Coach described the performance as "pretty good." This is unsurprising as the same source referred to Westbrook's prior, 78.4 Passer Rating, performance as "very solid." Jones did manage to improve upon the Westbrook 78.4 PR to something just a bit better than 80, a distinction without a difference. If Jones is to continue as the Saints' starting QB, it seems apparent that some changes need to be made to the playbook in order to capitalize more on the strengths Jones brings to the position. Westbrook is best (if that's the proper term) when throwing the ball deep. Jones, however, has short passing as his forte. Saints fans can expect to see those five yard out routes that Westbrook missed with such regularity, become completions and obtain or get close to the first down marker. However, the coaching staff needs to appreciate the difference between the two QB's and utilize plays and formations that will feed Jones's strengths and minimize his weaknesses. Westbrook has some running ability, although not at the level of Jackson or Fields. Jones, however, is a more pure pocket passer. One of the interceptions against the Cowboys came on a play where Jones scrambled and released the ball while past the line of scrimmage. He obviously shouldn't be scrambling if the situation can be avoided. One way to avoid such situations is in play calling, by focusing on shorter patterns that don't expect as strong pass protection that comes with more time consuming routes. Will we see this from the Saints' coaches? Only time will tell. Speaking of time, one has to wonder about the time management displayed by the Saints during the final minute of the Cowboy game. The Saints had a first down on the Dallas 1 yard line with 53 seconds left in the game. Roby ran a HB dive into the endzone for a seven point lead. There were 51 seconds remaining in the game. The Cowboys' subsequent drive reached the New Orleans 5 yard line when time mercifully expired. Let's suppose, instead of running the HB Dive on first down from the one, Jones had simply taken a knee. Dallas only had two time outs at that point and would not have been able to prevent the Saints from running down the clock to around 3 seconds and taking a gimmee field goal as the clock showed three zeroes. Even with three kneel-downs, the Saints would have been kicking the field goal from within the Dallas five yard line. Extra Points are made with ball on the 15. Think there is really much doubt that the kick would be good? So, why go for the TD and allow the opponent time enough, nearly, to bring the ball to easy scoring range? - sj

Hard fought win. Mac played efficient, which is why he was brought in. Blocking from FBs and TEs looked like either bad AI or low Run Block stats. Both Mac and Westbrook are of similar caliber with trade offs of both. Westbrook brings higher highs but lower lows. Mac brings more middle of the pack. Westbrook has more potential. Mac is what he is.

I dont think the Mac Jones move makes much sense. You wont win a SB with him and Westbrook i think was always going to require a Josh Allen like trajectory over 3 years, now he's just losing XP and likely wont ever improve his accuracy enough to be playable long term.
