Beautiful ship, as soon as I saw her I immediately knew she was from Fincantieri, small but armed like a heavy frigate. Even Leonardo's brand new Kronos radar!

Corvettes are going to be more popular in the near future. You get a well armed offshore patrol boat in times of peace that still brings valuable missiles and sensors in times of war. Very curious to see more details on the European patrol corvette project as it develops.

Oh and beautiful warship with very well balanced capabilities. Well suited to the sea states of it's AOO.

In the past 10 years or so, corvettes have been getting heavier, larger and outfitted with more weapons than ever.

It’s like a ‘Light Frigate’ with decent armament and comparable sensor to the Bergadini class frigate of the Italian Navy.

When a corvette is just as powerful as a royal navy frigate

3,300 tons, 76mm auto cannons and 30mm auto cannons surface to air and surface to surface missiles. All it needs are torpedoes and it is an official frigate

Needs ASW sensor. the Helicopter may have dipping sonar and it would be capable of dropping small torpedoes. Don't know of any corvette with towed sonar and hull mounted sonar. The extra sensor package would add weight and voila it would be a frigate

If you ignore the lack of a long range radar, the fewer SAM cells, 3” gun instead of a 4.5” etc, etc.

@SteveJones-om6ks It has the brand new 400-500 kilometre Kronos, and it's a Corvette, not a Destroyer, and the 76 is very good. The Duilio in the Red Sea shoots down drones with this gun.

@@AlFreeman-xy4jy Thats the point its a corvette not a destroyer. The LRR is important as it offloads the MFR to concentrate on fire control etc. The later 76mm is a good gun apparently...the earlier Compattos had a few issues. No 3" is doing fire support as well as a 4.5" though and we've used the Mk8 that way a few times over the years. The contention was that the corvette is better armed than an RN destroyer. The point being made was that it isnt.
