Qantas' HUGE Plans For Their A350 SHOCKS The Entire Aviation Industry!

Qantas has some huge plans in store for their A350 fleet. Why you may ask? Well, back in 2017, Qantas introduced "Project Sunrise," an ambitious plan aiming to offer direct, non-stop flights connecting Sydney, London, and New York, something that’s never been done before. The revolutionizing project was set to open new possibilities in air travel, but before they could initiate project Sunrise Qantas had to decide between using the Boeing 777X and the Airbus A350. After some consideration, they opted for the Airbus A350, a choice that surprised some but wasn't considered a major issue. However, this caused Qantas' to make some revolutionizing plans for the A350, which will surprise many.

A couple of points. Take off and climb is the least efficent time for the engines. Reducing one takeoff is a clear saving. But the big advantage to Qantas is this. Right now, it takes 22 or so hours to fly an A380 from Sydney to London. It is not possible to turn the plane around in 2 hours for the return leg. So what happens is the plane sits in London for a day before returning. A plane on the gound is not earing money. Now with project sunrise, they will have 4 to 5 hours to turn the plane around and that means less time on the ground. This is a much more efficient use of capital. That is what is driving this.

I have flown the Singapore Airlines non-stop Singapore to New York and back many times although only in business class. The first couple of times was a little daunting but once you workout a sleep pattern that works for you it became very manageable. I was always ready to go to work on arrival at both ends.

This is full recline business class with direct aisle access. I can see nothing daunting about. All you need to do is remember to get up and stretch every hour or two when no sleeping, which is easy since you are not hemmed in by another passenger. Even premium economy is daunting over 8 hours despite the extra space.

It is a little more to it than just Sydney - UK or Sydney-NYC. The middle east has a distinct advantage on that from Dubai, you can fly direct to almost anywhere on the planet. That is why they have boomed. However this idea of ultra long haul breaks that monopoly.

Boeing was also in the original request but was unsatisfactory in its response, QF was interested in the 777-8 due to a superior range and potentially a slightly higher seat count, However Boeing was non-committal on time frame and offered the 777LR as an interim until the -8 became real. Something we still don't know as there is no sign of a prototype yet and we know from the -9 this will take many years. Airbus has its issues too but the A350-900ULR is there and the transfer to the 1000ULR would not be an issue for Airbus to do.

Qantas board has had an anti 777 stance since 1996. Boeing offered long range tanks for the 777x as they are offering to emirates and that would have match / exceeded the range of the a350. The demise of the a380 and the 747 will mean Qantas will go to the 777x to replace the a380. Once released expect Boeing to offer a all carbon 777 that will share many of the 787 flying dynamics

Several issues with your post; Qantas hasn't gone bust, and if their service and pricing is so bad, how are they still flying?

The onboard service is actually pretty good. Ground service...horrible. Now that Joyce is gone maybe it will get better. When airlines like Cathay start ramping services back up then QANTAS might drop their fares. Domestic fares are ridiculous , come on Virgin start the fare war ball rolling.

Australians can live with bad service. We don’t like to be served because we don’t like to serve. But not that bad!!!

This video is wildly out of date and inaccurate. Project Sunrise is dead in the water as the aircraft is too heavy and due Russian invasion.

Good strategic move to buy the 350 over 777x..those who pre ordered the 777x realize they got bamboozled by Boeings streetwalkers pretending to be salespeople and are now in deep shxt…look at Korean air with aging 777s their only option was to snap up Asiana to get their grubby hands on the 15 A350s in Asianas fleet or wait 6 year back order to get a new a350 while there 25 yo 777 from the 90s keep falling apart and cost more and More to maintain ..those fleet managers who got bamboozled by Boeing and chose to tie their fate to them are now collecting unemployment checks or working as baggage handlers
