QA3 | Q&A ON TIMBER FRAME CABIN | CAMPFIRE COOKOUT
Фильм және анимация
#TIMBERFRAME #TIMBERFRAMECABIN #CABIN #CAMPFIRECOOKING
In this DIY video, I answer questions about the timber frame cabin woodwork and construction in the Great Smoky Mountains while cooking breakfast over the fire pit at the temporary basecamp. This is the best way to answer multiple questions concerning different areas of the same category. I hope this answers several questions at once for those who have inquired. Stay tuned for more Q&A on different subjects for explanation.

I agree. I have followed him from the start. I even hope someday to get up there if he would be willing and see in person what he has done and the beauty of the Canadian landscape.
I enjoy your site. I am 73 and enjoy building. I am not good at it but tend to be inspired by many. I pastor a small church, teach chain saw safety, mowing safety, bucket truck safety, etc. each day I start with watching you, Lumnah Acres, the Outsider, Red Poppy ranch, etc. Thank you.

Wow, thanks for your support. I am not really good at it either, but also have a good time doing what I do. Thank you for the nice compliment.
"Carpe diem"! Very well said!!! It is so easy to keep "putting off". At age 46 I had a major stroke (fully recovered, thanks be to God). I tell everyone to do it TODAY. Thanks for sharing! Love this channel. It is a great way to start my day.
Can't wait until we find our slice of Tennessee heaven!

Hi, it's a pleasure to introduce myself, I'm Rich. I'm one of the baby boomers sitting at home living life vicariously thru you and Shawn and several homesteaders. The life style really appeals to me now, but when I was 20 there was no way I'd live in the country. My parents were children of homesteaders, I mean real homesteaders 1900 style. I found a job-Pipefitting- an apprenticeship and fell in love with it. So I don't regret the life I've lived, but man I do wish I could do what you guys are doing. Keep it up please. Thanks Rich Buller, Montana

Thanks my friend
I have found your channel and was hooked. I'm almost caught up to the present and look forward to watching the Outpost come to life. I too have built several cabins and primitive structures and it is SO rewarding to stand back and see your plans take shape. I would also like to say you are spot on we you say "your never too old". Years ago I got my motivation from a fine gentleman that built a 6500 sq.ft Tutor home and he was 88. No excuse for the rest of us. Anyway, sorry so long winded. My last comment/question, being an Engineer, I'm glad to hear you are putting an aluminum plate between your post and concrete, that would have been a problem down the road. Don't forget there will be galvanic reactions between the two metals. Lastly, I noticed that your concrete is only 12" thick under your post and your anchor bolts are only embedded on 4", that's what concerns me. You haven't taken in to consideration the reaction force on your structure. Not trying to poke holes in your plans, I just see everything through an Engineers eyes. Keep up the great work, I'll keep watching. If ever you want to see it through my eyes, please let me know.

Thanks Steve, I would appreciate any input you have. The soil here is skate and clay. The back half is sitting on slate and the front a mix. I did another cabin about 1/4 mile away 20 years ago much the same. To my knowledge, no problems. Feel free to input in the videos on contractors corner I have started especially. And of course any other video as well. I will pose questions beforehand and appreciate any input. Richard
Good morning to the Outpost, great video. Great setting for any meal but definitely the best for breakfast!! Thanks for sharing with us, 👍👍.

Question my friend. What did you mean by “watch the whole (rumor) thing of 2019?” Was that a typo?
Thanks for the video. New subscriber here. I like your attitude regarding comments. I has seen some other KZreadrs who get defensive when someone gives them advice. I am a subscriber of the other channels that you mentioned. Huge fan of Shawn. I have a been building a tiny cabin in Ontario and learn so much from all these channels that display their work. I am looking forward to watching and learning from you too. Take care

Thank you for the nice compliment and support. It’s okay my friend. Some have to vent. I understand. Thank you for all your nice comments. Yes we were monetized and there will be short commercials. After all, I have to buy camera equipment, batteries, microphones that break, sd cards and a host of different items to name a few just to bring these videos to KZread. You can spend some money doing this but it has become a labor of love for the people that respond with such great comments.
Thanks for advice , life is good when you having a good time.

Thanks for your support. Well hopefully I am farming the timber respectfully. When I cut the larger ones, the younger ones that may die have opportunity to get sunlight and grow. Several will take its place. And I don’t have to use what someone else grew and decided how much they want to sell it for. I have to be a good steward with what I have including anything I have at my disposal. Thank you for sharing.
Richard, can you put a link to The Outsider. I tried to find it but it keeps taking me to the TV show.

Sorry you waited. Hope the lungs last. Move easy and don’t get the heart beating fast because it requires more oxygen.
Why did you decide to go with timber fram vrs traditional log cabin?
@SmokyMountainOutpost
4 жыл бұрын
They are a pain to wire and plumb first off. I have done one prior to this. This will have actual stick frame wall construction between the post, easy to wire and plumb, and the whole frame will still be visible like German/Scandinavian type building. I decided to mix it up a little.
😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻❤️
