I quit dejaying in 1986, about a year before transformer scratches were invented. I remember because I joined the army in 1986 and heard the "transformer" scratch on a tape and said to myself "If I seen how they did it then I could do it". Now here i am, after 26 years,I just got a set of Denon 3900's. Back at it again :) Glad to see that folks like you are keeping the history alive. Oh yeah.. I can Transformer scratch now. That's an easy scratch. Later

Wow! I actually go a little much more old school than what you started out with in this vid. Even more basic scratches than that. BSR Turntable Old-School. And It was Kool-Herk that first started scratching. But it all caught on so quick back then, so who knows? I'm 46 Years Old. I Grew up in a suburb outside of NYC (within 12 miles). I was there when it all started. Scratching at 12 years old (1978). I was about 8 or 9 when it all started. Going to block "parties". Good work on the history.

@damonskates The samples are right next to each other on the vinyl. Scratch sample 1 and then pull it back further to hit sample 2.

no, if you see his hand on the fader, it's normal. Sound comes in when he moves right.

Similar to you but I quit in 1991 having started around 1984. Got to a good level including transforming which I picked up in '87, it sounded complex at the time and tricky to work out without seeing it but I worked it out. I have dabbled with scratching again lately and can do almost all the new stuff apart from perfecting the crab but its nearly there. Purely doing this for fun and nostalgia. Its as addictive as I remember but sadly I don't have the same spare time for it nowadays!
