Hey guys greetings from Ohio! Got a question for you.. I have a 5 foot Blushing Star peach and a smaller Red haven peach. They are younger trees of fruit bearing age and size. The Blushing star has recently developed dark limb tips and is loosing its leafs. I'm guessing brown rot. We have had alot of rain and heat for a few weeks now. Any advice at all ? Am I crazy to be trying to grow these peaches? Thanks Matt V Dayton Ohio

I have been fighting insects and brown rot every year on my two backyard Elberta trees for 10 years and have decided It will be much simpler to buy a bushel at the local farmer's market. I have managed to salvage enough to can, but I am tired and frustrated. Every year after all my efforts the brown rot always shows up. I've sprayed with everything I've read about with no positive outcomes. I give up!

Peaches are hard. Hate to say it but it is easier to let the orchards grow them and then buy the fruit.

I know you are supposed to vary the fungicide groups. I had been using Captan but it never got rid of my brown rot. Once I tried Luna Sensation, it took care of the problem.

How do I store regular potatoes in GA in a 4 ft deep root cellar, thru the heat of the summer, it gets too warm, and potatoes are harvested in June

Thanks for the question. Potatoes need to be kept in a dark, cool location. So unfortunately, if you aren't able to keep the cellar cool, the cellar may not work.

They tell you to ask questions, but I see no one got a reply ummmm. Lets give it a shot. My nectarine tree was heavy with fruit last season, but dropped 50% of it's fruit prematurely. the remaining fruit shriveled up and turned brown. This season I am already seeing drop and early signs of the cycle repeating from last. Is there any hope for saving these fruit or should I just prune and treat the tree for next season?

My peaches get about the size of a golf ball and never get any bigger, or ripen. Only stay hard. Why??

Hello, im starting to see some brown rot on my peaches that are the size of a golf ball. Can I spray captain now even though the temperatures are above 86, I don't want to stress the tree or fruit.

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately fungicides are only preventative, so spraying now will help prevent future rot but will not fix any existing damage. It is recommended to spray fungicide throughout the season, so spraying now is good. You may want to consider a spray schedule. Visit our page on Spraying Peach Trees, at the bottom is a link to a spray schedule: www.familyplotgarden.com/spraying-peach-trees.html Also, when it comes to temperature you can spray at, it doesn't look like there is a temperature limit on Captan but the label will for sure list the temperatures.

Peaches and nectarines have the same schedule. This is the schedule for Tennessee. trace.tennessee.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1008&context=utk_agexgard#page=6 Many other state extension services publish a similar list for their states with specific guidance based on climate and timing.
