Tumeric is a godsend for me.

So you take it, and if it causes heart palpitations or causes side effects, then stop. Risk vs benefit. Increase B6 to support COMT. And if it doesn't work, then stop.

If I'm understanding this correctly, On my report it says Tryptophan and Green teas will be problems for me,....so what can you take for joint pain and inflammation, if all this is connected?

Well it really depends on what is causing the pain and inflammation. Instead of covering it up with anti-inflammatory substances, getting to the root of the problem is a much better solution. It could be food allergies, chronic infections, lack of nutrients that support joints and reduce inflammation. So many possibilities. Getting your genes tested can reveal possible sources of the problem.

@@DrJADunn Great information! I assume you're referring to MAO slow? Also, are you referring to COMT slow for green tea? Thanks!

Yes it causes the enzyme MAO to slow down even more when you have a genetic variant in the gene that codes for it.

Doesn't "genetic variant" mean a gene that has accumulated a mutation? Mutations do damage. The accumulation of damage clearly didn't create new proteins, new molecular machines, new structures, new chemical pathways, new gene regulatory networks and new organs needed for life to have evolved from a microbe.

A mutation is different than a variant or inherited SNP. We are talking about a change in the base pairs that is inherited, not acquired.

Some genetic variants may require a very large amount of a particular nutrient. Some genetic variants can reduce the activity of an enzyme by 70%. It is difficult to get that much of a nutrient in food form but can be done. K2 is one that is a cofactor for enzymes that allow absorption of Vitamin D. Getting K2 in the diet is trickier than it was for our ancestors for instance.
