Discovering your video and channel feels like stumbling upon a treasure trove. Your passion and aspirations resonate deeply with me, as I share the same desire to pursue a cardiac surgery residency in Germany. I'm Elzubair from Sudan, and reaching out to you fills me with happiness. I would be honored to establish contact and receive mentorship from your esteemed self. Thank you immensely for sharing your invaluable insights.

Amazing video, you’ve already inspired me a lot. My desired specialty is plastic surgery (reconstructive). What are the chances for a IMG to get in? Is it the training so bad? I’m from Mexico and here we have really good training and even classes. Thank you for your time ❤️

I‘ve talked about this about this subject in many videos. Please watch them to get a better understanding of the situation.

@@doctoruniversity I’ve watched them, but I got confused because you said in one video that you can get in any surgical specialty but in other one you said that you can get in any surgical specialty “easily” but not into plastic surgery. Please I’m just looking for a clear answer wether is it or no possible to get into plastic surgery or tell me please the specific video where I can get the information. Thank you again 🙏🏼

As far as I know, the competitive specialties are competitive in Germany too but not impossible like the US. You could also for example temporarily do general surgery residency as it is less competitive and then switch to plastic when you get the chance and your time doing GS would be added to your overall residency credit hours. Hope this helps

Hey Hello nice video. I have a question. You said that you have to learn on your own and actively look for people interested in teaching, but what if you don't meet someone willing to teach, how will you be allowed to "cut" patients at the end of your residency (year 5 or 6)?

Some people do almost nothing. The majority are in the middle. A minority get to operate a lot.

In most hospitals the answer is no. It’s a self teaching and self learning approach.

Is neurosurgery becoming more competitive for IMGs? I am in medical school and was wondering whether I should bother learning German, as in the UK neurosurgery is an awful career, whereas in Germany is it better in terms of job prospects and chances of getting into residency in Germany?

No. Chances are good in every surgical branch.

@@doctoruniversity That is excellent to hear - do you think this will stay the case in 10 years? Is surgery slowly becoming more competitive in Germany? Why did you switch from cardiac surgery to vascular? And can you make a video about how hospital reforms will impact residents as well as the German healthcare system in general. Thank you.

Dear Doc, If teaching is not there, I want to know what is the final standard of medical care there? Does that means that being treated in German Hospital means substandard care than say USA or India??
