A few interesting things covered in this post… First, compensated nuts…there is a guitar repairman up here in Ontario named Mike McConville who does those as kind of his specialty. He swears by them (of course), though they often look less than visually pleasing to my eye. But I’d like to try a guitar with a compensated nut. He has lots of videos of the process on his Guitar Repair@StringTech youtube channel. Next, at what point to add frets… it might be worth considering that with a guitar refret, they are definitely dealt with when the neck is already on the guitar. Might be worth considering that situation when doing the first adding of frets to a build. And lastly, suggesting a next project… how about a tenor guitar, or, kindof going the other way, a baritone or seven string guitar, or maybe a Nick Lucas style deep-bodied machine? Keep up the great work.

The guys at Driftwood Guitars have a great video on slotted vs unslotted bridge pins. FYI

Pretty sure the Earvana nut does not require the fretboard to be shortened. The Buzz Feiten system requires a shortened fretboard and a sweetened tuning.

Great information in the nut compensation. I have never really even looked into it that far. As far as future builds if you decide to do a dreadnaught let me know and you can use my molds/forms/plans. How about a baritone multi scale dread? 27” to 25.34. Great for some low tunings! I can cut the fretboard on the CNC for you.

Eric, thanks for the great vid! I finally got all set up with the Discord account, really like that setup much better as well. How about doing a 9 string for your next build? I have gotten intrigued with them as you can still utilize the bass strings and the high e as melody line strings but still get the octaves on the rest…. Might be cool!

Regarding the Planer and the Thickness Sander, I have a planer but not a thickness sander. When trying to practice side bending, I used my planer to get the thickness very near where I wanted. I was able to do this successfully with Rosewood but as you described in the video, the maple sides were pulled up into the cutters and splintered badly. Oh, the way I was able to get thinner than 1/8 inch is that on the base of my planer, which does not move, I attached a long piece of MDF that spans the cutting area (and support area). then I can technically feed it closer than 1/8. Not sure if that is OK but I've done it successfully with the rosewood.

His jig is for an uncompensated "classical" saddle. Haven't read the article but I watched his video. (For some reason GAL can't seem to get their magazine to me, I pay but they don't show up.)

thank you Eric . how about a 12 string build ? it seems the hard woods tend to give better tone . hard wood meaning jenka scale . how ever i have seen/ heard american cherry use to great results too .

You asked for what to do next. Double neck dreadnaught. Make it huge! It will take months and months to get done. What a fun series it would be. You'd be the only one doing it. You'd need to invent some sort of quick release mute system for the neck that you weren't playing. This would totally be a "moon shot" video series.
