Hello all, this is Mom. Thank you for watching the video and getting some insight into our family. Some of you were concerned by Dad's obliviousness to our racial dynamic. He really isn't. He knows there is more to me and the girls than just being his. Though being his is his main concern. He does not care what others think but as any husband and father, would give his life for ours. The girls are loved and encouraged. They were disciplined and guided. Taught not to be victims and never let anyone hold you down not even us. They have been enlighten about their ancestry; African, Choctaw Indian, German, Irish-both sides, English and a few others. The dynamic is great. I pray every child has these blessings. We all God's children made in his image, of one blood. Love one another as he are loved.

@Stephanie His love for his family is not at question. Him showing no concern of a plight that adopted him via your children is concerning. Unfortunately many Afro-Centric women/males bury the reality of who they are once they form relationships outside of their ancestry. Then forming an overflow carrying a nonchalant mentality that affects/effects their spouses and children. Also, we did not establish the definition Black. You still use the terminology but now want to limit it when it comes to your children.

It’s nice to just see people love people as people, for who they really are, beyond their physical presentation. Yes we live in a complex society seriously impacted by the concept of race, but how nice to just see two people who fell in love and had a family. And luckily, were not intimidated or shunned or otherwise penalized by their communities.

Well, to be fair white parents raise their white kids telling them "everyone is the same inside" as their way to combat racism. White people were taught it is more polite to not talk or ask about race. Because if you see differences some how that is racist? That's where you get the "I don't see color" comments lol I think this explains her dad's answers.

I have a white husband and I empathise with how your dad is reacting. White men especially, never had to think about race because they are THE standard, the default. I asked my husband once, ''when do you remember meeting your first black person and thinking about race?'' His answer was 11 years old. They just grow up in a different reality where no one questions their intelligence, their status as a law-abiding citizen, their right to be in any space or their right to just exist. Love your channel. No american is fully black or even fully white. If you look into your history only 90 years ago majority would be classed as mulatto. Mulatto means mixture... Mixture of African ,Native American and English, Irish and scottish celtic decent. That is the united states as america. So, as a nation you havent been taught properly about the heritage of the united states of america. 4% of "white" americans have african heritage... Thats because they come from years of mixture 3 or 4 generations of mixure of one black and one native american white europeans .... Thats is what you called the white man. So, futhermore 300 years its just a mixture of people. Therefore, mulatto was taken away from you as an identity but thats what americans are by heritage and decent ... Even if not visible or even on a dna test. Which arent accurate, but partically. 😊

He is privileged to be able to be "blissfully ignorant" about race issues when it comes to his wife and daughters. As a white man living in America, he personally doesn't have to think about race. He can navigate through the world, and obviously has, virtually unscathed by his race. I was surprised though that he was as unaware as he was. I noticed that he too was a little surprised, and even felt a little embarrassed himself, at how oblivious he was of some of the racial experiences his wife and daughters faced. I like the question of culture. You can look one way but what CULTURE do you identify with? To me culture is about these things: 1. Who you spend your time with 2. How you talk around other people (language, vocabulary, slang, vernacular accent, etc.) 3. Religious beliefs 4. Moral beliefs 5. What you do for entertainment/leisure 6. What you do for work 7. How you enact and respond to social cues 8. Behaviors related to physical appearance It's also important to understand that your culture is BEYOND RACE and stronger than race. Think about it. An African American and European American set of friends may have more in common culturally than an African American and a Nigerian even though the AA and Nigerian are the same race.

My whole thing about people being considered mixed is that there are darker skinned people that are mixed, but because they are darker skinned they aren’t as easily accepted as mixed. Also there are mixed ppl who are mixed with things other than white. A lot of the times it seems like mixed really just means to a lot of folk that you’re a person mixed with black and white that has lighter skin. Or if not lighter skin, lighter eyes, and looser hair texture etc. So much of this is about phenotypes and is centered around whiteness. Which what does it even mean to be white other than being not a person of color? Whiteness is based on not being any other culture rather than being anything in particular culturally.

And I don't see it that way, because I don't see race as something biological but as a social construct. I identify as mixed because I'm mixed. I identify as black because I look black and am racialized as black. End of the story.

I loved this. I can tell dad is ignorant to a lot of the issues surrounding race... which isn't necessarily bad. Just from his perspective, he only saw others as humans. Because he only looks at character, he's never focused on racial prejudice or injustices. Like I said, it's not necessarily BAD.. Dad seems like a really cool and down to earth guy! And I also appreciate Dad being honest and saying he wasn't aware of anything like that. But I know for me and in my experience, I enjoy for my non-black friends and family to know of the issues surrounding race. It can be uncomfortable for them, but they always come out learning and knowing more that they didn't see before. I have two black parents.. however my dad remarried after my parents divorce and my step mother is hispanic. She was, and still is to some degree, ignorant about racial issues concerning African Americans. Over the years of being with my dad, she has learned a lot more and became more aware of it. Just seeing it for what it is helps you go about it in a more knowledgable light. I really enjoyed your video and your parents are amazing! And they made an amazing daughter! Keep on making these videos! It's always great to see representation!
