Hi, I found a Q-Tip stem is the perfect thickness to hold a wheel gently in a chuck to softly sand and polish. Who knew! Pinewood derby hacks. You heard it here first! :-)

I went overboard! Went to 3000 grit, then to a leather strap, Flitz metal polish and topped it off with an expensive auto polish. We ended up with about 12 trophies in the 3-4 year span.

How long before a race would you prep wheels / axles?

I use a scotch Brite that works well for polish

Says bsa rules prohibit kids under 14 to use power tools. Proceeds to show little kid using power tools. 😂😂😂
