    Fantastic bowling from all four players. No 10-pins missed, great control of the pocket, could have gone for anybody. First time I see Maria. Excellent ball reaction, really like her style.

    On Monday I showed up a bit late to the playoffs. So, I was scrambling to find a seat. I sat next to a couple of women and thought nothing of it until I looked at the brackets. The woman directly to my right was Maria Jose Rodriguez. Didn't know who she was (or if she was a player or just a spectator). I knew who Rocio was, but not her or Summer Jasmine (who I had a nice conversation with about turning pro). I did strike up a small chat with them. I'm horrible at that sort of thing, so I hope I did not bore them with it. All in all, Maria had to go through a lot to get to the finals. Monday, her and Rocio's match was delayed until Tuesday morning (because of the crazy weather we had outdoors). There after, she had to compete for the rest of the tournament all in one day. Its so cool to see her win. I hope, going forward, that 2 things happen. 1. The fandom can grow. Even if the weather was nice, not many people would show for the playoffs. Its a shame, really. These ladies are hella good, and this thing should be an event. 2. PWBA can find a way to promote these athletes better. (Shoutout to the couple from ATL (guy in black cap). They are superfans who watches the PWBA live when they are in the East Coast. They are so much fun to talk with.)

    Bowlers are not athletes. I’m a lifelong bowler, and I am certainly no athlete. Bowling and golf are not a sport, they are a game. I do both.

    Thanks for sharing this, some very high caliber bowling by both champions. Kelly with a run put pressure on Maria, and Maria responds. Tough conditions, light hit rips the rack, but go high flush and the 10 pins stays.

    Does anyone know why Rodriguez was allowed to use an abralon pad between each shot on her ball? I'm not familiar with PWBA rules but in USBC and PBA you cannot alter the surface of the ball once official play has begun.

  • @bosoares

    @bosoares

    5 жыл бұрын

    Without going back and watching the video again, I think she was using the Motiv pad which is round and one of the color options is red. It's made to clean the oil from the ball and does not alter surface. It's not legal to use Abralon pads during the game.

    Most pros do it to slow themselves down especially when the 10th frame comes and they need to execute. Also, some do it when they see an off pin.

    Sorry, the white lanes don't work on camera. It just doesn't. And there's precedence to this... Decades ago, boxing rings were always white, which was terribly bad when color television became the mainstream. By the 1970s, boxing tried different colors, and settled with blue for the most part. Blue looks good on camera, as does other bland colors like the color of wood. And for decades, the natural brownish color of wood on a bowling lane worked. And blue is the chosen color by the PBA for the TV pair's conditioner - it just works! Using a white-ish color for the bowling surface just does not work, just like gold didn't work on bowling pins. Stop fudging around with the sport, and keep the sport pure!

    It's terrible how people rely on equipment to make them bowl "better". Like fuck the wrist guard and all the tape and shit. Just bowl with your clothes on,shoes on, and throw your damn bowling ball. Even the damn rags,like why are you constantly wiping the oil off the ball? I swear some people just go way too hard sometimes.
