Also, the new IR bulbs are significantly brighter, too bright in my opinion

I just bought a PVS 14 today and the IR was impressive. If light is amplified by 30000 times then it doesn't take much to light an area up.

Thank you so much for this video! I just got my first “real” Pvs-14 housing and I noticed that I could also see the glow from the illuminator with my naked eye. I found this a little unusual for a mil-spec piece of equipment, but I suppose it’s not something to worry about. The glow is very faint and would probably be nearly impossible to see from more than a few meters in the dark.

Thank you! I also tested the PVS-14 VS other devices, in regards to how well/how far away I could see their IR light glow with the naked eye. Feel free to check that video out somewhere on the channel! Have a good one.

Excellent presentation man, gained a sub from me! Your tube seems to have above average integrated illumination, pretty interesting. What manufacturer do you have, elbit, photonis or L3?

Thank you, sir! That’s a great point… being that I’m working with a sample size of 1, I had no clue how it compares to other units! That’s good info. This is an Elbit tube but if I’m not wrong, the rest of the assembly was done by Steele Industries, for what it’s worth! Have a good one and thanks for the input.

Thanks for this video! I plan to order some PVS14's soon. I didnt realize they even had IR illuminators on them. Haha. Novie here 😅. Do they make aftermarket illuminators that provide farther reach without detectability?

Id like to see how the surefire vampire lights illuminate. They get crazy money for them.

When I think of the light that I most often hear recommended, it’s the Vampire! I do love the Surefire lights that I own but I haven’t yet jumped on the Vampire… who knows what the future holds, though! I agree that it would make for a great thing to experiment with. Thanks again for the comments!

Checked mine. I see the IR. Mine is 2458 FOM white phospher. Not low spec.

Haha! Thanks for checking, sir! My tube is 2124 FOM which I’d argue is above-average. That’s a great reading on yours! I love mine with its 33.2 SNR, 64 res, .71 halo, 1987 photocathode sensitivity, 2.01 EBI, 69214 luminous/brightness gain. Not the greatest specs out there but man does it never get old looking through them! Far from a bad tube! Appreciate you checking on your end! Have a good one.

Those IR bulbs suck. I modified mine with Edmund optics light defusing film 😏

Crap IR light. Mine is the same 😭 I’m looking to defuse if. cheaper units 😂 yours is the cheaper unit 🤦 Those LED ir lights are not the proper original 4:20 bulbs. They’re rubbish‼️

You have a low spec PVS-14....can't see my PVS-14 IR !!!

  • @Gerndel

Literally has nothing to do with spec quality, and most likely everything to do with your unit having weak illumination.

@@Gerndel Between you and I, there will be a video releasing here within a couple of weeks where I take the PVS-14 and cheaper units out and experiment with how far away I can see the red glow of the illuminators in the dark. Interesting results but I’ll say now that I think the furthest away that I could see the PVS/14 IR glow was just a few yards (and that’s knowing exactly where to look)! You’ll see. And for what it’s worth, my specs are 2124 FOM, 33.2 SNR, 64 res, .71 halo, 1987 photocathode sensitivity, 2.01 EBI, 69214 luminous/brightness gain. Not bad by a long shot, haha!

You must have the proper brass and glass IR bulb. Rare these days, it’s all commercial garbage now 🗑️🚮 I am very displeased❕
