    Back in OEF 2001-02 our squad leaders were issued with PVS-14’s. Team leaders and riflemen with PVS-7’s. 14’s were weapon mounted and 7’s helmet mounted. That’s how we rolled back in the day.

    Im one of those guys that still prefers a monocular on one eye so I can scan/shoot with a thermal scope on the other eye. Sometimes, I even like a variable power day optic in certain temperature and lighting conditions. Not to mention “react to white light” drills. Cool video though. Hope to see more videos in the future.

    Talking smack about the venerable 7's... Blasphemy! *Edit: On a serious note, you guys are spot on and thanks for sharing the knowledge. I do like to collect old night vision, and the pvs7's are imo the OG's of gen 3's and love my set and still love to look through them. I do have 14's as well as duels, and even collect old gen 1 stuff to trade that I still think beats a flashlight in land nav (not totally useless). I will say you are correct, most of the time you will be faster when both eyes see something, dual tubes better if you can afford... however if I was rolling in say an urban area where there was still a lot of shadows and ambient light I would stick to just a single 14 over 1 eye just for better awareness of lighting. 14's also got the gain adjustment which a lot of night vision lacks... love that feature... and the 7's got a focus-able IR spot (never needed but fun retro feature). Thanks again for the knowledge, Ill definitely recommend you guys as something to watch for new buyers.

    would you recommend getting a PVS14 with a higher quality tube (L3 gen 3 white phos film less) or a dual tube set up with lesser quality tubes (perhaps basic green phos). From what I’ve seen it seems that a top notch 14 can go for around 4500ish and i can prob find a lower end dual for the 6-6500 range. Would you recommend the quality of the 14 over the ability to have an extra tube if that extra price difference is manageable?

    Hey guys, great video. If you don't mind my asking here, I've been saving up and in a few months I can probably get a monocular, what do you guys consider to be the best way to scale up from a monocular at first, and then way down the road, to a dual? Bridge adapter? Mod 3? Cannibalism? Thanks in advance.

    I've been researching this question a bit. Hardest part about it would be converting the Mx-11769 tube to a mx-10160 and then finding another tube with similar stats. Once you got the mx10160 style tubes and pvs14 optics, throwing them in a dual tube housing is relatively straight forward.

    you might have to adjust the gain on both units insted of one dial like some dual tube systems offer. but besides that its pretty much the same. like you say the weight and overall size of the thing is pretty bulky

  • @TNVCINC

    @TNVCINC

    5 жыл бұрын

    dual -14's are heavier, sometimes 2x heavier, not as rugged, tend to bounce around on the bridge mounts vs a dedicated system, uses 2x the batteries and unless your tubes are matched like what we do for our dual tube goggles its just not a good idea.

    Thanks guys. I'm looking specifically at running dual 14s simply for the fact that if I went out with a friend, wife, ect. that I can split one off, so that we were both running a monocular. When I'm solo or with someone else who has their own NOD set up, I can go back to dual tubes. What do you think? Good solution? Or should I just focus on a dedicated dual tube set up? No question that I'm going to be buying from you guys... I'm looking for the best ideas for what I'm trying to achieve, from the guys who know what's what. Thanks

    If you buy a mount for bridged 14s such as the new Pano mount or the Knightvision setup with the obverse shoe set, it will articulate similar to dual tubes. Not really worth it unless you're planning on buying a whole setup for bridged 14s

    AR LEO A gen 3 set up will be noticeably clearer than gen 2. Dual vs single depends more on what you are using it for. I'd go with a gen 3 single tube to start off with since you can get an adapter to run a 2nd tube later on if your budget changes.
