PvP is a huge topic, and I have a list of concepts that could not fit in this video. Maybe there will be a part 2 or an intermediate/advanced version in the future. Also, I've been considering doing 2 or 3 videos a month in order to increase the quality. Every video I put out, I see ways in which I could have improved it. Not sure yet. fr i wouldve given up on this game without your guides, those of us who are watching really appreciate how thorough you are. on the point of you improving i think youre already pretty great at making the vids - youre articulate to the point that you even make mistakes well; you dont stammer or say "uh" or waste time correcting yourself. your info is concise, cheerfully given, and so far well thought out. plus you run cleric alot so youre already top tier.

Yeah we need more! This was a good primer but as a person who likes to dive in and find out as much as I can about a game I'm interested in, there wasn't as much awesome comprehensive concrete new stuff for me to learn and go practice here as there was in the PvE guides. Definitely still high quality stuff though, and anyone brand new to the game would get a ton out of this. Keep it up!

So like, what would an epic Morningstar go for with +1 additional weapon dmg, 2.5% phys dmg bonus, and +2 phys dmg? Been trying to get a price for 2days and can’t seem to.

Very enlightening. Now that I'm getting a bit more familiar with your tutorials about PvE on every maps, I'm starting to turn my attention towards PvP, to be prepared for any kind of encounter in the dungeons. I'm currently trying to learn what the good and bad matchups are for me as cleric, and the notions of advantages and disadvantages, when to push or fallback. That was really nice to learn more about PvP ! ~ A thankfull brother

Another great tutorial, these were all things I knew but will definitely recommend this to aspiring timmy killers. One of the things that takes a lot of skill in this game is "reading" stats on items, it takes a long time to figure out but you have to do it sooner or later. A tutorial on that is much needed, but I can imagine it being boring as well (both to make and to watch). Very excited to see you skill diff the gear diffing timmy slayers in the next vid.

IMO, the Ranger class is designed around being “unstoppable” if it can pick favorable engagements. Setting up traps, having access to molotovs, and the power of the bow and the skills that compliment it all go with this philosophy. However, if a Ranger is caught out, it feels like you get one burst of damage based on your primary skill and if you whiff it you instantly-lose. I’d like to see a more well rounded setup. Perhaps reducing the high-damage and sometimes bursty nature of the class, but giving it access to more abilities that interact with terrain, especially in favorable circumstances. Leaning into the “survivalist” theme a bit. Whatever the fix is, I’m sure it’s complex and ever changing with this being a live service/EA game. I appreciate Iron Mace for continuing to experiment and listening to community feedback.

Those molotovs have carried me through so many fights/escapes. I carry two of them on my fighter at all times. Great for positioning in a fight, regardless of the context. If I'm jumping someone unaware, it can often stun the player for a moment as they process what happened. If they're chasing me, I can use one to force them to take damage to pursue me, which may turn the tide of battle in my favor, or give me more space from them to escape. If it's an even match, I can halt their cowardly retreat. They're great for killing/area denying rat druids, too.

I'd love to see some more well-roundedness so that we can nerf the ranged damage output. Melee classes have to risk themselves in order to do damage in melee. Ranged classes don't. They can skip building tankiness or survivability, and dump all stats into damage, action speed, and movement speed. It somewhat breaks the system of combat and gearing imo.

@@NotLikeThisJoe In unfavorable terrain, I think this is a bit less true. A rogue lying in wait in a tight corridor, for example, or a fighter/barb that takes advantage of a key choke point to an escape room would have access to tools that would allow them to close gaps and deal consistent and high damage much quicker than a ranger would be able to shoot them down (except at the highest levels of play or gear). But the rangers that understand this play around it, and stay in that unfair/unplayable territory as much as they can throughout a match - which I think you probably experience more often since you are someone who is playing at a much higher level than the layman.

Amazing content. I would love to see a video just covering gear & stat rolls. I main cleric (lvl 60) and had no idea magic healing doesn’t apply when the weapon isn’t out, huge piece of info to learn. Also, explaining which rolls are dead rolls and which are good would be very helpful for a new player, as well as what is more beneficial (strength vs weapon dmg vs phys dmg bonus vs true damage, etc). I haven’t been able to find any goods guides breaking that down

I like to bait the second attack as well. The first two come out decently fast, but the 3rd has a windup at the beginning plus a long recovery at the end. So bait the first two swings and then punish or fully commit and force handle hits too.

I agree in a game with slower movement and a lot of skill expression in mele, spamming arrow's from across the room with that type of DMG, doesn't seem very balanced when you don't have a traditional run keybind. I feel like having debuffs on the arrows and having to go in mele to finish would be a perfect way to balance it. You are rewarded for hitting your shots while giving someone of a slower build a chance to outplay without getting straight cheesed.

I like the idea of rangers being forced to use a little melee. They get to be strong at ranged (especially against casters which is what IM wants) which is unique to them, but they can't just easily kite and destroy frontliners.

If it's Solos, try to build a little lighter so you have more speed. Also try to fight in rooms without long hallways or wide open spaces. Use your throwing axes or knives to slow them down if you have them.

How can heavier armoured/slower players gain an advantage then? Slow spells like cleric's judgement etc?

A few suggestions would be: Fighting in rooms without wide open spaces to kite around, good positioning, movespeed abilities like rage/sprint, throwables which slow enemies down temporarily, working with teammates who have CC for enemies or buffs for you, and using ranged weapons to pressure enemies into bad positioning. Your tankiness is an advantage which makes you better in melee, but the tradeoff is it can sometimes be harder to get enemies into melee with you.

i'm having a hard time trying to find videos that do green builds (gs 25 - 124 for example with the newest queue bracket they did). it'd be really helpful if you could do a video that was like 200g kit or something

Trying this game out as F2P, and I chose cleric as my starting class. Its pretty good for PVE, but the PVP is getting my ass kicked. I get followed and ganked if Im seen at all. What the hell am I doing wrong, or is it just bad luck to run into Fighters, Warlocks and Rogues ganking the hell outta me?

If they are surprising you, then try to use headphones and listen for audio cues of them coming. If they are faster than you, then you can try building lighter. I like lighter builds in solos for cleric.

@@Suodemon In under 25 GS, you will mostly only be skill diffed. Everyone is pretty much on equal gear level. As you move into higher brackets, people can have more optimized gear with good rolls, so you will start to get gear diffed by some people. You can always try it with just a 60g blue weapon. Nothing really risked. Same loot though. You could also try HR if you own the game. Much better loot there, but it's harder.

I just got poor speed barb vs decent speed mage matchup. Absolute loss on my part. Speed diff is really fucking annoying

You could try speed Barb. High damage and speed, but lower survivability. Light armors like Loose Trousers and you can even skip a chestpiece and use Savage for a budget build. It's more of a solo build.

I would just like to add, while speed is important, things like doors, shields, offhand ranged weapons, all counter speed difference pretty hard. You may be fast but you lose any advantage and control you had if you let a fighter get through a choke. Too much distance and a throwing axe or bolt is coming your way. Shields basically level the playing field. I can’t tell you how many rogues think they can enter and exit a fight without consequences only to receive a crossbow bolt to the back of the head. You can tell you main fast characters like rogue and ranger. This guide is basically no help for fighters, barbarians, and it’s limited help for spell casters. Besides introducing some basic concepts. Personally I run spear, crossbow, plate armor. If I do die it’s almost exclusively to barbarians or fighters with better pockets or whom just out play me. In a team based game, the rogue has almost no play and will get wiped first in a coordinated group fight. Especially when there are so many skills that removes their speed entirely. Finally and most importantly, if you’re not trying to get into a fight, your best weapon is to talk. I avoid 90% of fights I don’t want by just telling people I’m not looking for a fight, and that you guys can just walk the other way.

I'm not sure how a shield negates the speed diff. Could you explain? Running spear on fighter tells me a lot about you though. Also, I don't main fast characters only. I main Cleric, but I play all classes. Now that we are 1 month into wipe, my three highest chars are Cleric, Fighter, Barb, and the lowest is warlock at lvl 25. This guide was intended to cover the basics for new players.

@@NotLikeThisJoebecause it severely limits your ability to weave in and out as I back away to a choke. Without a shield you can just harry me all you want and there’s really nothing I can do. A shield (with someone on equal skill level as you) is going to stop you from getting those quick one two hits in as I reposition, or it’ll bait you into over extending to get around it. In my play time so far I’ve just not noticed character speed being that important in the outcome of most of my fights. Only if you’re caught flat footed in a bad spot does it seem to matter, and even then a shield mitigates that in my opinion. I’m not sure what bringing a spear says about me though? I use it simply cause it’s the first legendary I found and I’ve managed to keep it all wipe so far and I like that I can get right into a fight next to my friends and not worry about hitting them since I run 3 man squads mostly. I guess my point is, the run up stab once run off doesn’t work as well when the guy can just block your insanely telegraphed stab. We’re talking players on equal skill levels here, someone not good at aiming a shield is still going to die but a real fight? Against a fighter who understands their position? Speed is just gonna drag out the fight, or enable you to run away, not really determine the outcome.

Last night I died for the first time in two weeks as fighter and it was getting back alley shanked by 3 rogues who were all hiding just past a door. First full squad of rogues I’ve seen too. Walked in, door slams shut behind me as 2 dudes start stabbing me in the front and the guy who closed the door gets me in the back. Wild. Dead before the cleric and ranger could even get the door open again.

Is this real money you are drying on the wall?

Oh ranger is not the most op class at the moment, but ranged damage has always been overtuned. Right now bard, warlock, and some parts of druid are worse.

@@NotLikeThisJoe Fair take those other classes you listed when combined with their disengage are definitely very strong with ranged dmg. Still most kills I have seen are of the melee type not sure if that is just a symptom of less range users or my lobbies. If you could would you reduce range damage across the board? As a melee main cleric I would say the range dmg is in a good place. I would personally like to see Druid receive a small movement/bear nerf. Also warlock still seems too strong not sure how to fix it tho. Would love to see ranger and wizard get some love they need to be reworked.

@NotLikeThisJoe Let us compare this game to others and see how it compares in terms of a skill ceiling. Rocket League has a 10x higher skill ceiling than this game. The potential for improvement is endless. Dark and dark on the other hand, has very few hitscan abilities and the projectile speed is low leading to many shots that simply land based on luck or a 50 50 of which direction he chooses to juke. An archer is literally a tf2 huntsman bow. In melee combat, most the fighting is trading hits. You have the potential to block, but with the speed on some weapons and their ability to stab, it is unviable to try and longsword parry a good rapier user who just spams stab. Simply comparing this game to other games shows how low the skill ceiling is. Like what hard mechanics are in dark and darker which people have to practice. There is almost 0 tech in this game that doesn't take less than 30 mins to learn. This statement alone just shows how low mechanic skill it takes to play dark and darker. The game is spacing 99% of the time which is boring and not complicated if you have experience in higher skill ceiling games like dota or smite or any fighting game at a high level. Keep telling yourself this game has a high skill ceiling, though compared to games like apex, super smash brother melee, rocket league, and more. Keep telling yourself that your 5 inputs per minute game with 0 mechanical skill required has a high skill ceiling. Also, keep studying the AI swing pattern while some of us program the AI for you to study. There are levels to this. P.S. No wonder your brain is lacking. You get no physical exercise and never get vitamin D. You are less than 150 lbs and as white as my ass in the dead of winter lol. Bruh, you can not even take care of yourself properly yet alone have a logical debate.
