PVC Man - Book Tablet Holder Display

PVC Man - Book Tablet Holder Display
Today I am introducing the PVC Man. He is easy to build and fun to play with. I love to place him in different positions to see everything he can do.
He is great at relaxing on the porch, holding a tablet or book, watching TV, Meditating, and shooting our rubber band machine gun. He can be positioned in a funny way to propose or maybe beg. He would even make a great addition to a Library. The positions are endless and everyone can enjoy him.
Body:
To make the body you will need:
10 Elbows
4 End Caps
1 T-connector
1 4-way
8 3-inch pipes
1 6-inch pipe
6 1.25-inch pipes
The assembly is simple and straight forward. The 4-way is at the top and connects the body to the shoulders with the 1.25-inch pipes. The T-connector is at the bottom and attaches the legs to the body with the 1.25-inch pipes.
Each body joint uses an Elbow for maximum turning range. And the end caps are the feet and hands. The feet are also connected with the 1.25-inch pipes.
It is very simple and easy.
Head:
After making the body, I wanted to make the head to be proportional, so I first used an old baseball. I carefully drilled a hole just big enough for the PVC to slide inside. It looked great and any baseball fan should love it.
I liked it, but thought it was missing something. A light bulb is a great idea, but that would take some additional wiring and there is a chance of breaking.
So I started playing with some more PVC and came up with an easy to assemble head. This new head makes our creation look more like a robot.
To make the head you will need:
1.5-inch section of 1/2-inch pipe
1/2-inch to 3/4-inch adaptor
3/4-inch coupling
1-inch End Cap
1-inch section of 1.5 inch pipe
1.5-inch End Cap
The only modification I made with these parts was to cut the 3/4-inch coupling in half so it would sit flush in the end cap. Then, starting from the smallest to largest, I pressed each piece into the next. All of the parts slid in without much effort. The head then fit nicely on to the body.
The PVC Man is fun to play with and looks great on any shelf reading a book. You can place him in many positions and locations for a good laugh.
He can be used as a Tablet holder, book holder, and makes a great display holder for my PVC Airsoft Gun that I made in a previous video.
And I am sure you can think of many other ways to use him in your home or at the office.

Genesis 1:27
Use of video content for personal projects is at your own risk. Just remember that PVC is only a form of hard plastic. It can and will break if too much weight or force is applied and injuries can occur.

Love it, purchased back in 1999 a robot lamp for my son's room...he loved it! It was about 5' tall and looked a lot like yours just taller and with a big light as a head and in his hands were night lights...🥰

Just had a thought; double the parts for the legs/feet, replace the T-connector with a 5-way connector. Assemble as instructed, but making 4 legs with feet. Will try this when I assemble all the parts.

I saw your video this morning. I picked up the pipe and a cutter at the hardware store this afternoon. I built it on the hood of my car in the parking lot. The only issue I have is that the brand PVC at the store is apparently not the same as yours. The 1" cap does not fit. I'm going to cut the ends of a 1/2" to 1-1/2" bushing and fit straight from the body to the 1-1/2" cap, instead. Excellent videos. So happy to have discovered you. By the way, I'm a near 66 year-old-woman. : )

I was wondering what type of adaptor is it? I have been looking on the home depot website because i don't have a Lowe's near me, and all i could find was male and female 1/2 to 3/4 inch adaptors and it doesn't look like the one in the video? Is there another type of adaptor I am missing? I would like to know. :)

A few questions, please...What brand PVC pipe did you use for this project? Do you buy wholesale? Online or local? ... How do you keep the pipe from slipping out of the sockets? I'm thinking of either roughing up the ends or putting a skinny strip of friction tape on them.

  • @SpecificLove7

    @SpecificLove7

    8 жыл бұрын

+tanalee09 I buy whatever brand the local hardware stores are selling. Nothing fancy. I did purchase some speciality joints once but not for this project. Unfortunately PVC is not held to perfect tolerances, so each batch can be slightly different. Anytime I have a joint that slips out easily, I add a small piece of clear tape. And that usually does the trick.

+Specific Love Creations Thank you. I saw some places online where the fittings are quite cheap, like 17 cents for an elbow. I paid 49 cents at a local hardware store. I think Lowes has them for 29. A few people have asked for one, so I'm looking for the least expensive, of course. My original was about $15. Thanks again! Beautifully done video and list!

I teach a 4-h maker projects and last year the kids made robo lamps. One 6yr old child made your man and made him into a lamp. She adding a SM piece of pvc at the neck and then a 45coupling. In the coupling we added a lamp socket and threaded the wires through the body and out the back. She won 1st place at our county fair. I'm not sure how to add a picture here or I would.
