Though I have no plans to actually play SMM2, now that Nintendo has fully killed SMM1, I've decided that I'm willing to port some of my levels over to the lesser game by special request. This level was (sort of) requested by BSwizzle24. (He initially requested Green Thumb, but mechanical changes made that level unportable. Then ditto for Calvinball. Finally, he told me to choose a level.)
Despite what I wrote in the uploaded level's description, the original level is actually from the Californithon 2017 marathon, not 2018.
Anyway, all but one room made it through the porting process essentially unscathed.
The cape room where you flick a winged beetle through a one-block-wide wall to collect a coin is impossible in SMM2. The beetles just die inside the wall rather than being ejected to either side. You can flick them through one-ways, though, so that's what I was forced to use to simulate the SMM1 solution.
Other minor changes:
- I removed some confusing/annoying kaizo blocks that were intended for decheese purposes, but really weren't necessary.
- I added a hint to the moonswimming room.
- I changed the layout of the hubworld pipes to account for no pipe stacking in SMM2.
- I removed the 3x 1up one-way bypass mini-puzzle in the subworld hub, because it doesn't work in SMM2.
(For the curious, the name is a reference to a Japanese mobile game called "Puzzle & Dragons". I've never played it, but it was in the news at the time for being the first mobile game to reach a billion dollars in revenue. The peculiar mixing of singular and plural nouns in the name has a certain "Engrish" charm that I found humorous.)
