We work hard we deserve to treat ourselves, in my opinion using nice gear just adds to the good experience. Did I need to spend 500$ on a reel ? Probably not but does it bring me a great deal of enjoyment hell yea it does. I haven't been able to put it down all week. I just picked up the 2024 metanium dc the day before yesterday and it's a work of art ! Sad part is i haven't even gotten to fish with it yet

@@joshuamann30 I'd bet you're experiencing the Placebo Effect at work. You THINK, therefore it must be, but it likely isn't. I'd wager I'd hand you one of my perfectly dialed setups and place a blindfold and earplugs on you and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and in fact, you might just pick my setup over your Shimano setup.

@@theINQBS I don’t disagree, I still use the hell out of my non shimano setups with no issues at all but every time I pick up that st croix with the shimano on it I feel like a little kid of Christmas morning. @@theINQBS Eh, i dunno about that. I've used a few different baitcasters, from cheap $20 ones that are near impossible to cast without a lot weight, to average reels around $60-$80, as well as diawa tatulas and a shimano slx dc, and i can say down that the one i would choose for distance and ease of use would be the slx dc. It isn't placebo, they aren't even my reels, but i've used a bunch of different reels and that was the best. Less birdnests, further and more effortless casts, etc. Sure, you can use any reel pretty well when it's dialed in properly, but quality makes a difference and gives more margin for user error. A shakespeare walmart combo won't come close to the performance of a good daiwa or shimano on a decent rod, not to mention better build quality most of the time.
The reason why the IMZ Daiwa reel cost more is because it also has Bluetooth technology built in the reel. It’s just not available to use in the US as of now. Daiwa has an entire app to measure all types of information from your reel to use in conjunction with your smartphone. It’s just not been released in the United States as of now.
@theINQBS

Blutooth modules are DIRT CHEAP these days so that "shouldn't be the reason the IMZ is so expensive. I'd wager Daiwa is just doing Daiwa things and decided they should try and maximize profit on this thing as much as they think suckers are wiling to pay for it.

@@aurelianobuendia5360 Thats true, they are new to it as far as i'm aware, so they might be charging more to help develop the technology even further and cover the costs so far. It wouldn't surprise me to see it getting cheaper and getting put into less expensive reels later on when their system is more mature. Like in the $200 range like the Shimano SLX DC, after all, that should be their goal, to compete with those premium yet affordable reels for the average person

This is actually a sick vid. The cinematography, the narration/presentation, the dope gear. You did well on this one Jon 🍻
Man this was a sweet video jojobarz. Really enjoyed it
Absolutely LOVE this video Jon! I've been watching your DC JDM gear reviews and showcases since you started doing them! It is so cool to see two amazing products go head to head like this and I love that you are showing your followers just how cool fishing reels can be! As a gear head myself I just wanted to point out one thing in case some of the viewers had more questions or might be unaware to this. When it comes to SHIMANO DC technology, not all DC reels are created equal, far from it actually. There are various levels of the DC system (IDC4, IDC5, 4x8 DC & 4x8 DC MD), and they are included on various quality levels of reels (Slx, curado, metanium, antares etc...).The Antares DC MD has the 4x8 MD (monster drive) tune DC braking system, whereas something like the Antares DC (non MD) has the standard 4x8 DC braking system. The 4x8 braking system allows for up to 32 different possibilities when it comes to adjusting your DC brakes. The Antares MD like you stated perfectly in your video is designed for bigger fish and therefore bigger baits so the adjustments are more (beefed up) I guess you could say. Then there are reels on the north american market like the Metanium DC 2024 that has the IDC5 technology, which is definitely more finesse oriented or in our case (bass oriented). I believe that the IDC5 has like 15 or 16 settings with one of them being considered an automatic mode. Then there is the absolute most basic of the bunch the IDC4 which could be found in the SLX and Curado and Ive seen that braking system, although being the most basic, cast 1/2oz frogs up to 45-50yds. I am excited to see where the Daiwa Intelligent Magforce brake system Technology goes and I think that regardless of which brand anyone choses that most would be blown away with how great these products are. Once again great video, loved every second of it! KFNS 😎🙏🏼
I love these gear comparisons! Great video!!
I think the better way to test the braking is standing on high point then roll the dumbells back with hanging. Awesome vid!
this video i feel has been very well done. the amount of thought you had with how to portray both sides of each reel was amazing. answers so many questions you have that a company can put on paper but your always skeptical about.
Thank you for this video JB I been waiting on someone to do a video on the imz

Nice one! I was burning up Largemouth Bass today using a Wacky Worm after watching you guys slay them on Lunker Logs. I personally prefer Daiwa but I just picked up a Lews Speed Spool LFS to do a budget review!
Loved how you tried to save the Daiwa by making the Antares backlash then pulling slower on the Daiwa to give it an edge
Thanks for your videos and your good friend Rob aka Lunker. Life is not the best right now but your videos really help take me away. Thank you.

This right here is awesome. Jon breaking shit down for people like me to understand. ❤️ ( still can’t afford one of those but would love to try it)
Ive been waiting for this video to come out! I knew JB was gonna get the Limitbreaker at some point. I think the Limitbreaker is the better reel for the coolness factor and what it means for shaking up the DC reel game.
That Daiwa Limit Breaker is sick! Absolutely badass and the technology of the future. You have to use it on your next Trip to South America or wherever you go for huge fish. 👍🏼
Awesome video man, even though ill prolly never own either of these reels its still a cool ass video to watch, very well done
I know it’s not your style but Loongze has a UL BFS casting reel that’s very similar to both Shimano DC and Daiwas LB. It has different color lights with certain kind of braking but also have an app for a multitude of fine tuning the braking. I’ve seen posts that you fine tune a certain lure and save it as a file when you want to cast that same lure again at a later time.
I bought a Japanese model Shimano scorpion a few years ago, it broke and the repair cost was right at the price of a brand new one. I fixed it myself with a lew's spring. 🤫

Eh Japan Lure Shop they’re roughly $115 dollar difference. If you’re buying from Tackle Warehouse your gettin ripped😂
I think both of these reels do DC in a way that already reflects what each brand prioritizes in their design. Limitbreaker is a true evolution of Daiwa’s analog braking system philosophies. The Magforce Z and SV systems in Daiwa reels offer spool speed dependent and immediate mechanical rotor braking (respectively) that make them feel a lot less susceptible to backlash when a wind randomly picks up or you throw a different lure weight. My experience with shimano has been that of needing to spend a little more time dialing something in/committing to a setting, but you really do get max distance. I love Daiwa but the Antares DC MD seems to also be an INCREDIBLE reel.
please keep doing product reviews!! they are the best on youtube no doubt
Hilarious timing, looking into one of the Shimano Scorpion DC’s, no better timing for a DC reel video lmao
Been too long since we had a JB gear review/spotlite. It's how I found your channel in 2016
I have one Shimano reel that I use for musky fishing, the Tranx 400 or 4000 it's called that I have never backlashed it. I use 80 pound Power Pro line on it and big heavy lures.

Make sure you check the drag every few hundred casts because it loosens up on that reel.
What model of costa glasses does he wear? Those are clean
How do they do skipping a jig ? Would love to see that. Would really show the quality of the breaking system skipping around some docks if they can backlash that will show it.
What do you think about the curado dc? Is that safe for some salt water fishing without destroying my reel?
Ill be honest with you. I have a curado dc and a slx dc I never get tired of hearing them sing. But I always find myself going back to my lews hyper mag just because of how light it is, how comfortable it is in the hands, how far it casts and just how smooth it runs 👌🏽.
Great video!

Are they supposed to eliminate the chance of backlash? Can you force a backlash or do they catch it every time?

I own that Antares dc and it is the chefs kiss, love that reel
I want to se how the Swedish reel Svivlo Genisys 1 compare to this digital controlled casting.
okay but which ones side fell off? i couldnt tell but thatll determine which id buy
Antares no contest. Price..plus I have seen some say the diawa didn't last 4 hrs before needing to be charged.
"that you and I can afford" As if this man hasn't been casting reels worth 5x my entire fishing outfit for the past 8-10 years lmao
Makes sense for distance casting. The Daiwa holds more line so it prob have a deeper spool
Slx dc on a good medium light or medium rod with 30lb braid will send a 3/16 spinnerbait 80 yards. Fixing to test 20lb and 15lb to see if I can get 100 yards. Pretty amazing for a 150 reel to send 3/16 that far trouble free.
Are they both only rated for freshwater fishing or are they anti-corrosive?

I think it's a cool idea but if you have to charge it that makes ne think it has a battery of sorts what happens if it falls in the water. I guess long term will tell
What did you step on?
I bought a 50 dollar h2ox low profile Baitcaster combo and caught a 20 pound channel catfish and somehow the drag didn’t slip at all so you don’t need expensive reels to catch big fish
