Putting a Hellcat Blower on an RT? Fantastic or a Terrible Idea?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this installment I show you a subscriber's 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T; however, this is no ordinary R/T. He decided to increase his horsepower by adding the supercharger directly off of a hellcat. Chris will share his journey with you and tell you if he would advise putting a hellcat supercharger on your 5.7 or 6.4 hemi. Do you like his build?

The RT should’ve always stayed the top trim on Chargers and Challengers. The RT badge has heritage and weight behind it. Its pedigree.

  • @NXT_LVL

RT used to mean something but it became the pedestrian car in V6 or V8 narrow body form. The rental car trim. Even for the trucks mines an SLT Plus, so its missing leather seats and wheel and two speakers from a 90s early 00s Laramie. Now Laramie is a tick above mid level. Even worse with RAM adding Tungsten now 😂 it’s basically just about the appointments and not the heritage.

As far as the 10lbs of boost and borrowed time, I've been driving since 2008 with my 2006 dodge magnum 5.7 procharged. Dropped 2 pully sizes in 2010. Running 9-10 psi boost with no issues until 2022. Lost a small piece of piston and it flatten the spark plug. Put new plug in and runns good no oil,no smoke for over 2 years now. I hope i didn't just jinx myself. 😂

@@scarrevan6311A supercharger is a belt driven "air pump" of 2 or 3 different configurations, all are referred to as blowers then there are turbochargers that are exhaust flow driven. The superchargers are instant punch when you hit the gas cause the belt is always turning BUT it can take 100 HP to turn the belt and the turbocharger needs to "spool up" so there is a small lag as power builds but doesn't take HP to run. I have had 4 or 5 turbo cars and if balanced right (size of turbo to cubic inch engine) there is very little noticeabl lag.

Out of the 3 I've personally seen/helped on 2 were on around 8-10 psi and ran at the 430-440 whp on 93. The other was a max effort on 12-14 psi made 475whp before detonation took out the piston. Now its got a forge bottom end running a little over 500whp.

I’ve always wanted to do that to a R/T so I’m glad I came across this video. My first car is a R/T charger and I was wondering how a supercharger would look and what will I need to change just to make it work

Great video . i have a 2012 300 with a 426 and a hellcat supercharger with a comp stage 2 cam and long tube header no cats no resonators . i'm just dialing in the tune but cant wait to see how well it runs.

What a lot of people don’t realize and Dodge won’t ever advertise this, but talking to a bunch of different engineers. They say that the 57 is Dodgers corporate engine and it can take any modification that you pretty much due to it one of the reasons why you can run so much pounds of boost on it is because the walls of the 57 are a lot thicker than the other hem. Therefore gap in the piston rings and put a blower on there. You can actually get 600 to 750 HP

Awesome that it works. If he is fairly easy on it and doesn't do back to back to back runs at the strip it should be fine. Just don't do long hard pulls with that much boost without gaping the rings. It is easy but overlooked because it is time consuming and once the motor is apart many figure that they might as well throw internals at it. Gapping the rings will cost nothing with some restraint avoiding buying beefed up parts.

I so want to get some Eagle heads, a Hellcat blower, and put them on the 5.7 in my regular cab 2005 Daytona edition RAM 1500 truck. I just put a new rebuild engine in it back in April of 2023. It's fully broke-in now, and I would love to modify it.

I've heard this was possible, but have not seen it done until now. I've heard the 392 intake is a good option too, although it doesn't have a blower.
