Yeah I’m sick and tired of the equivocating about Ukraine. There is no lasting peace to be found at a negotiating table opposite Putin. Any settlement is an invitation to future invasions. The man is clear about this. If the contention is that Putin is not bluffing when he claims to have the upper hand, why on earth would we assume he’s bluffing about his long term goals, which is regaining all of “Russia’s lost land”? The Russian state must be opposed, and it’s a lot “safer” to do so through a proxy war today than an open war tomorrow.

He is acting like a head of a superpower. Russians get high on that and it makes sense since they ran USSR a little over thirty years ago. I don’t know if you noticed it that this was the actual American position where the military would tell oh, our goal is political reconciliation with taliban but only once we defeat them (or hurt them enough?). Let’s just pretend to forgot in 2002-3 when Taliban had offered to surrender as Bush was busy with other important matters. Putin wants to negotiate from a moment of strength where border changes and other changes in Ukraine are fully codified and accepted internationally by everyone. In a sense, this war is eerie similar to the Crimean War of the 1850s when France and Britain ended up siding with the Ottomon Empire to eject Russian Empire from Crimea and Black Sea. Ukraine should not concern America but our European heritage which I guess has also led to Russophobic decisions in the past and NATO has forced our hands. Perhaps John Mearshimer is right that we should have dissolved NATO after 1991. I’d also let go of Israel not that can’t happen either. All these conflicts have done what china wanted by giving them breathing space to become our near peer. China is the biggest threat to American hegemony NOT the Middle East nor a declining Russia. In fact, we delivered Russia to China which helped kickstart their military modernization in the nineties.

He's thinking he is going to take Ukraine and "negotiate" with NATO to get out of all former USSR territory before he attacks them too. Because that has been his clearly stated plan for quite some time. Putin intends for Russia to retake all formerly held territory or officially start WWIII trying. And, given his age, this is his last chance to do that. The moment he orders a retreat and de-mobilizes it's over. He will not live long enough for Russia as a nation to gather itself for a whole new attempt, just look at how long it's been since Crimea. Same thing with Bibi. They have crossed their respective "Point of No Return" and no one within their governments capable of stopping them. It's like a fugitive on the run for a death penalty conviction: why on earth would that person surrender under any circumstances? The only thing they want is to finish the atrocity they started. There is nothing to negotiate. Either you let me do the thing or you yell at me while I do the thing, but we both know you aren't going to physically intervene so eff off.

They had a chance at general negotiations in Dec 2021 and April 2022 and chose to keep funneling hundreds of billions to Ukr. Including long range rockets, cluster munitions, pushed for war crimes indictments of Putin, blew up the Nordstream pipeline etc. Why on earth do these two think Russia should be open to negotiations? To the Jacobin point, the idea that there has been no significant dissent in Russia is ludicrous to me. They had a coup attempt (or at least a mutiny) less than a year ago. I don’t expect a Russian Revolution anytime soon, but this notion that their economy is fine and their society stable is simply not true. Can they survive in the long run? It’s certainly possible, but Putin has every incentive to have it be perceived that way, and so accepting and spreading that narrative even though it’s truthfulness is dubious is a disservice to Ukraine (insofar as it limits the odds of them getting aid), and as such it is a disservice to the defense of freedom more broadly.

It barred NATO military activity in Ukraine but not Russian military activity. So again, Putin's "negotiations" are Putin gets what Putin wants. The broad concensus was that the draft was so outrageous it was probably meant to be rejected as pretext for further military action. I watch the entire thing and I thing it gave us a clearer idea of Putin's reasoning behind the invasion (not saying he is right, but it was useful to nderstand his worldview). Regarding Tucker's role in the whole thing it was clear that Putin had some disdain for the interviewer and probably accepted it becuase he felt confortable that he would be 100% in control of the situation... Regardless, i thought it was generally good to have it aired.

I feel like this take is completely wrong. Putin explained that his aim in Russia is to protect the people of the Donbas region who have been massacred by their own government. His story actually tracks considering the front lines have frozen in place. Russia could be pushing forward in so many different areas and has chosen not to. I feel like, if I had listened to only this small portion of a 2+ hour interview, I would also feel the same way Seeder feels.

I think you've failed to understand or research topic properly. Russia did try to negotiate multiple times: At the 'Minsk Agreement' on 5th of September where a 12-point peace resolution and ceasefire deal was signed. Zelensky and European leaders stabbed Putin on the back and broke this agreement. After which Zelensky and Merkel revealed they had deliberately lied from the start, and that they always intended to break it. Then again on April 9th 2022, Zelensky was hours away from signing another peace agreement with Putin, brokered by Turkey in Istanbul. However Boris Johnson, at the request of Joe Biden, flew to Kiev and begged Zelensky not to sign. Promising money and weapons to extend the war. Why didn't mention this? Why don't you ever mention crucial facts like this? Why do you constantly support neo-liberal warmongering and imperialism? Why do support fascism?
