Putin’s spy network exposed: how covert Russian operations were uncovered across Europe

“We wanted to look from 2022, from that moment of deep crisis and failure, to the present day when it appears that spying activities have gone into overdrive.”
European security agencies have been uncovering Putin's spy operations across Europe, as the Kremlin scrambles for influence after Russia’s ill-fated Ukraine invasion, says The Times’s contributors all over Europe.

I posted comments years ago, and since then, before the war started regarding Putin when people were commenting on how great he was, how people were saying "Don't poke the bear " and all that BS. I always responded with " That man is evil and he's not to be trusted, and that he was going to start a war some day. I never guessed it would have been against Ukraine, but nevertheless I was 100 % right. I ofter wonder where those western AHs are today who glorified that evil pos Putin.

Agree generally but part.of Putin's stock in trade is assassinating domestic opponents. While there is a risk of infiltration, there are also ruzz with known opposition to the Putin regime. Some of these are contributing significantly to the Ukrainian cause. Their lives are now at risk from the FSB assassination squads. Subject to monitoring they should be offered temporary protection in the west.

There just needs to be better supervision of these people. If you've immigrated to a new country for the right reasons it shouldn't be an issue meeting with immigration officials to check up with you on occasion. Russians up to no good will often claim they're being targeted unfairly and wrap themselves in the rights of full citizens of despite having broken every law lying their way into that country. Russians care nothing for the rule of law so we shouldn't be treating them as if they do.

The closing of embassies and the expulsion of ambassadors closes all your diplomatic channels, normally this is only done by the countries actually at war. (And is considered a "soft declaration of war") Besides, when you find a spy, you don't expell him - he'll just be replaced with a spy you don't know about. Instead, you feed him false (but believable) information and surveil him to find the other spies in his circle.

This is phase 2 of the Chinese espionage operations through out Europe via their involvements in shipping and infrastructure investments in the Balkans through their Belt and Road Initiative. Since 2002, China state owned COSCO shipping accrued 67% ownership of the port of Piraeus. The port has also been used by the Chinese navy. Their latest acquisition was a 24% stake of the port of Hamburg. They've tried to negotiate up to 50% first. China has been aggressively trying to gain further back door access to the European market via Eastern Europe. It is in their highest interest to get a foothold in Ukraine but also keep them out of EU regulators and NATO. Xi's recent visit to Serbia, Hungary and Moscow followed by military exercises in Belarus and this weeks Orban's jet setting event around the globe as the pro tempore president of the EU should be a tell tale and a warning. German DW News recently ran a story on huge lithium deposits in the Donbas and central Ukraine China is believed to be interested in via their Russian military arm. China also agreed on building an EV factory plant in Hungary and is involved mining lithium deposits in Serbia. There're are also talks of opening another EV plant in Turkey which has full access to the EU market. China with it's eastern European partners has quickly found out to subvert the recent imposed tariffs on EV dumping on the European market. There are two cynical parts to this attempted new world imperialism coming from Asia, aka BRICS+: Russia is willing to play the world bully and military aspect of it while China is more involved in the economic development and diplomatic smoothing over and normalizing of Russian's behavior on the world stage.

The secret war by Russia is on at least 6 continents, the major physical action being from the Middle East and Africa with displaced people headed to Europe, using Russian and Russian-backed transporters, from areas with military governments and dictatorships backed by Moscow, and Russian PMCs such as Wagner Group, and South America, with displaced populations heading through Central America to the USA. Europe has no security to Russian personnel crossing non-existent EU borders, even as far as the UK, now wisely separated from the vulnerable European continental federation. Australasia is also challenged via South-East Asia, where too, Russia has fingers in many pies. Then there is Xi's China, which also is interested in diminishing western power, but is probably extremely embarrassed by Russian apparent military weakness, and not wishing to be involved in any of Moscow's nuclear sabre rattling over Ukraine, thus keeping Putin at arm's length. China itself is probably not as strong in terms of Armed forces as it would like the rest of the world to believe.

What is the point of a spy network if you expose it? You're spoiling all the fun. Stop doing that. Spy networks are supposed to remain secret. So bloody act accordingly and don't be a nasty spoilsport.
